An all story Oct 1912 is coming up in seven days from HA. Complete unrestored in VG, be interesting to see how it fares. Already at 39k. More in my wheelhouse is a bound copy with the mars trilogy. Looks tempting but not sure how the covers are. And of course a couple shudder pulps im gunning for but based on HA price histories I'm not holding my breath

Yah, which is kind of strange once you think about it. Found this interesting, from Wikipedia. Time to hunt down a copy of Sqlmagundi ๐ In Jim Steranko's History of the Comics, writer Bill Finger, on the naming of the city, said, "Originally I was going to call Gotham City 'Civic City.' Then I tried 'Capital City,' then 'Coast City.' Then I flipped through the New York City phone book and spotted the name 'Gotham Jewelers' and said, 'That's it,' Gotham City. We didn't call it New York because we wanted anybody in any city to identify with it."[9][21] "Gotham" has been a nickname for New York City that first became popular in the 19th century; Washington Irving had first attached it to New York in the November 11, 1807, edition of his Salmagundi,[22] a periodical which lampooned New York culture and politics. Irving took the name from the village of Gotham, Nottinghamshire, England: a place inhabited, according to folklore, by fools.[23][24]"

Been eyeing this one for a while, finally pulled the trigger. Just realized the illustration is from schomburg. Just posted on because it caught my eye flipping through ๐

I wish planet comics were this affordable ๐ Do you think surviving copies of the comics are more or less numerous than the pulps? -

Cap 332. As a kid I loved cap from that era, and read most of the books up to and after he hung up the uniform in 332, but at $10 at the time the book was out of my price range and I don't think my shop even had a copy. Always wanted to read it, as it was a monumental part of the story with an iconic cover. Bought it as an adult and the story was trash

I'm eyeballing some of the terror and horror stories, but HA auctions seem to hit unusually high prices. There are a couple "restored" copies I might have a shot at ๐

Batman 423 is this a 2nd or 3rd print? It is labeled as a first.

Seems likely. Unrelated but I appreciate that the seller is disclosing that the book it's pressed. -
What do you consider to be Science Fiction?

Planet Comics? Googled around, Wikipedia has this as the first Sci fi strip, running from 1907-11. Features a martian observing humans. Thought it was cute -
Sampling of results from yesterday's HA. I'm a little surprised at the issues of Indian Stories from the late 40s in vg going for over 100.
