Most valuable comic you HAD as a kid...then lost/traded.
Montezuma replied to Blastaar's topic in Comics General
It doesn't really matter, it was a long time ago, but knowing the person, and having been on the farm I think there really were comics that were burnt. Whether they included a Cap 1 or not ehh, who can tell. I've collected comics since they cost me 3 pop bottles and 1 beer bottle each, and I've missed quite a few opportunities over the years. They're fun to talk about, but I don't ever loose sleep over them. About the same time as this instance I turned down a VF Archie 1 for $1,000 from a dealer. $1,000 was way outside my budget at the time (I did buy his X-Men1 and DD1 $100 for the pair). Another time a local antique dealer had a CGC 1.0 AF 15 for $1,000 which I also stupidly turned down (it was about FMV at that point). The misses are all equaled out by the hits eventually, back when I was actively looking for collections my father used to say hitting 1% of the time was what you could expect, and I agree with that assessment. -

In this case haul it off and burn it means take it out of the house and over to the trash barrel and light a match. The guy who burned them and teh guy offerring tehm to me were two different people. -

I think I may have posted this one on the boards before. Back in the early to mid 1980's a guy I worked with a guy who told me he had some Captain America Comics he'd like to sell. Since the Guy was younger than me I assumed late silver age and wasn't in any hurry to follow up. One day I showed him some pictures of the golden age Cap's and he pointed to issue 1 and said, I know that ones in the lot. Needless to say within an hour I had him in the car heading for Orrin North Dakota of all places. We got there, and the old guy that lived in the house told us he'd hauled all the paper out a week ago and burned it. I'll never know if it was really a stack of golden age Cap's, but at the time I wanted to cry. -

The 1958 issues are all IW, in 1963 and 64 they are mostly Super. Israel Waldman changed the name in the 60's.

The weirdest on for me is probably the Space Detective 8 that starts with a reprint cover from Avon Space Detective 1, and then you get Famous Funnies 191 on the inside. I wasn't old enough to read at the time it came out, but if i got it a couple years later I would have been real disappointed.
