  1. Second book back from CGC (See Millie 2) Graders notes, Again Joey pressed it before grading
  2. I have a couple books back from CGC where I was off by at least 1.0, usually I'm within +/- .5 In any case I figured it would be fun to check what others think. First is a Millie 2. Joey did his magic on the slight spine roll before grading Graders notes below, sorry I don't have a back cover scan,I will give the CGC grade later
  3. I hear there's going to be a movie, or TV show, or Opera, or something.
  4. Thanks Just being cautious, I recognized the e-mail, but that part can be spoofed. Been checking and it appears legit.
  5. I just got the following e-mail Don't know if it's legit or not, but links asking for my data go to cgccomics.us11.list-manage.com not cgccomics.com Anyone know if this is legit or a phishing scam. I know catawiki is legit, I'm wondering about the e-mail? Thanks Monty
  6. Four Color First Series 1-25, second series 1-1354 Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies 1-246 Superman's Girlfriend Lois 1-137
  7. Nothing against Theo, I don't know him and never dealt with him. He appears to have a P.T. Barnum style similar the Mile High Chuck. Based on the e-bay feedback I personally would be very careful dealing with him, and it would take something I really wanted to even make me consider it. On the other hand, based on what I've heard over the years, he's most likely a better person than his feedback lets on.
  8. Only 37 of them are as a seller, including 3 negatives and a neutral. The rest are as a buyer. Neg's fall off the rating after a year, ergo the 100% rating
  9. I’m not sure I could come up with a good definition of who is a collector vs hoarder vs accumulator. Three cases. I grew up in the middle of nowhere in the 50’s and 60’s. It was an hour’s drive to a town of 6,000 which was the largest town close to me. We’d only get there once a month and I’d spend a long time deciding which 10 comics I could get for my monthly allowance. (Especially when that sad day came and I could only get 8). Those comics were kept in my bedroom, or out in a tree fort, so some suffered severely. Yet I did everything I could to find the issues I was missing. I consider myself a collector even though at the time condition wasn’t real important. (my Avengers 1 came back 4.0 slightly brittle and my JIM 83 came back 3,0 as an example, though my FF48 came back 9.4 white so I learned quickly) Second my neighbor also read comics and had a huge pile in his bedroom. He was willing to trade, and enjoyed the books, but I’d classify him as an accumulator, and once he hit his teen years the comics no longer mattered. Third I have a friend now who collects comics and a lot of other things. To him condition isn’t important (His Amazing Fantasy 15 is heaped in a pail with the other Spider man issues, I shudder whenever I see it. But he enjoys his books, and has worked hard for years to get every appearance of Tracy and the Lone Ranger. I’d rank him as a collector even though keeping the books in pristine condition is not something he cares about.
  10. This one came back at 7.5 with the 1/2 inch tear on the upper left top.
  11. I’ve bought at Flea Markets, Garage Sales, and advertised for collections since the 1970’s. I don’t have a lot of time for it now, but used to do it pretty regular. If someone has an item set out and priced (Garage Sale, Flea Market) they have decided what they want for the item and I have no problem giving them a dollar for their Brave and Bold 28. I’ve spent 50 years studying and learning the value of comics and other collectables. On the other hand if they don’t have it priced and ask me what it’s worth, then I’ll give them an honest appraisal and offer a percentage that I’m willing to pay. There are times when after the appraisal they want too much, so I’m out my time, but I’ve had a lot of luck. As an example back in the late 70’s I went to a farm in North Dakota. The lady had a little over 750 Golden-age / early Silver comics. I went through them and gave her an estimate of $3,500 and told her I couldn’t afford to make an offer (I was fresh out of school and broke), but if she’d sell me the Little Lulu’s cheap I’d be willing to put her in touch with a dealer who could make an offer. She said she’d talked to a dealer already and all he wanted was the Torchy and Lady Luck issues for $1 each, how much could I afford? I came up with $500, she took it, and we were both happy. Years later she called me back with a silver age collection, mostly DC in VG shape no Keys. Normally I wouldn’t have paid a lot for it, but I wasn’t broke anymore, so I paid her higher because of the earlier collection. One of the books from the collection
  12. I knew there was an article in CBM on this at one point, See attached link. Their conclusions on the missing issues come close to matching 4GEMWORKS Missing Four Color Article They also explain the numbering system 01-090-209 01 is for 15 cent comics, 12 is for 12 cent 090 is a designator for a spcific comic title 209 is YMM so Sep 1962
  13. It's an interesting topic and I enjoy it. Going by the Dell codes and issue numbers has it's problems. Below is a list of the issues from1200 to 1250, their cover date and year, and the Dell code (Library of Congress data thanks to GCD). As you can see, 1202 was from 1962, but 1250 was still a 1961 issue so Dell didn't ship these consecutively. I don't have enough data to draw conclusions, but Disney licenses appear to be treated differently. I'll dig for more data, unfortunately most of my four colors are stored in a location I don't have quick access to.
