  1. Wondercon 2001 purchases:

The girlfriend spotted the Miss Beverly Hills of Hollywood #1 and fell in love with it immediately. We looked at the others the dealer had and walked away with the two best. She now wants the rest of the run. That makes me happy after being married to someone who would never in a million years get near a comic con and who hated comics.

Congrats on some great books Sean :)

And for making a convert of your wife :applause:

Thanks. And :gossip: the redhead is the girlfriend. The only converting the wife did was herself into a single lady about two years ago. I'm much happier now and I have a gf that likes comics. Woot!

  2. With WR #3 being as ultra scarce as it is, you might just have the highest grade copy in existence. (BTW, I just checked and saw that Beerbohm still has those books listed in his eBay store...)

Not likely. I just checked and there's a 7.0 out there. The bottom edge on this copy probably keeps it under that.

  3. I didn't realize WR #3 was so scarce. Robert and I had an interesting and near heated discussion as to the price for all three books. It was actually quite fun since I think we were both aware of the game we were playing and in the end we made a deal. I paid dearly, but not quite the 3X guide at which he had priced them.

  4. Purchased at Wondercon last weekend. Apparently, these were sold to the dealer by the daughter of the original owner after the OO passed away recently. There's some folds and other faults but the covers are glossy and the spines in great shape. These are now the highest grade Baker romances in my collection.

IIRC, the Wartime Romances were purchased by a woman in the 1950s and then sold to the dealer by her daughter after she passed away recently. About as close to OO as I think I could get.

  6. I'm a big Hunter Thompson fan also. If you haven't read his political stuff, check it out. He was onto Nixon way before Watergate exploded.

My reading lately has been Objective C and iPhone programming books, as well as "Head First SQL." I've got a comic book want list app that's going to be submitted to Apple shortly. My artist delivered some great icon art last night.

Did I mention how much I love this book?

Is Shark wearing a mini-skirt, MrBedrock? No wonder Brodie has to be the toughest fighter in the South Seas! ...Or is that Kinks Mason on the cover? hm

Teasing aside, that's a beauty, alanna. A super Lou Fine cover on a HG Mile High pedigree. It doesn't get better than that! (thumbs u

I imagine if you are strong enough to stop a speeding car while machine gun bullets bounce off of you you can wear anything you want to. Who's going to laugh?

I'm pretty sure that those bullets are bouncing off the front of the sedan, away from Shark, but I'll give Brodie big points for nerves of steel and strength! He's tough (in grade, too), no doubt about that.

Hey, he can wear a mini if he wants too with no beef from me! (thumbs u

That's not Shark Brodie. Shark hung out in the South Pacific with a hula honey.

  8. scrooge,

check with bunky brian..i sold him a buttload of fourcolors at san diego this year.

ask for jerry. he will know!

my favorite issue is a santa claus issue numbered 666!!!!

Shouldn't Four Color 666 have been Satan Claus? Dell refused to join the comics code. They could have done it...

  9. she battles some Scooby-Doo aliens in this story.

This deserves some picto-graphic evidence methinks

I was going to say that!

Why not the last Fight purchase? (And, btw, I'm officially done with Jumbos for a while. I bought a 70 in slightly lower grade than I wanted to fill the hole in the Sky Girl run. When I get off my , I'll post a group shot of 68-130.)

  10. And this is the first true stinker I've ever gotten back from CGC. Once I looked at it closely, I could see the tell-tale signs of trimming. Of course, you'd be slightly brittle, too, if you had a guy stabbling an ape with a screw driver on your cover.

    Jungle9560001.jpg

I think that's an icepick. IIRC, Kaanga and Ann were about to sit down for cocktails afer a long day of slaying evil slave traders when the gorilla burst in causing Kaanga to accidentally pour way too much vermouth into the gin, thus ruining the entire pitcher of Martinis. Kaanga grabbed the ice pick to exact the appropriate revenge.

It's a lesser-known plot device for Jungle Comics, but a classic nonetheless.

  11. Here we go Cimm, 89 Jumbos for a rainy english Sunday:

Nice Jumbo collection! Wanna sell me that 70? :baiting:

As part payment for your #31? :sumo:

    um... er...

    No.

According to PGX, that 31 has slight color touch. You wouldn't want something like that stinking up your purdy collection.

Also, after looking at your post, I want a 46 and to find a nice 51. Jumbo 51 seems to be a difficult book to find in mid-high grade.
