  1. Very curious to see what happens with the Tec 27 CBCS 3.0 - and if the price is "soft" relative to CGC. If so, smart money is on a quick resub through CGC. I know if I was in the market for a Tec 27 I would be all over this one.
you haven't thought about owning two? (shrug)

Thought about it...? Absolutely! I've also thought about being a rock star, a professional tennis player, a movie star, independently wealthy...

  2. Too many back to back auctions.

    This

In certain cases, I definitely think this is true - especially if your #1 priority is in a later auction, and you have to choose between passing on other big books and waiting for your chance at Moby . In this case, though - chances are that if you are interested in the Tec 27, this IS your white whale, and everything else is just white noise.

  3. That could potentially result in a $60k profit after CGC resub (assuming same grade).

Just curious, why do you think that? Is it because the book is overgraded, or is it that the book wil have a lower value simply because it is not CGC-graded?

Based on recent sales, looks like Tec 27 is roughly $120k per point now. In that case, a CGC 3.0 would be a $360k book. If this one sells @ CGC 2.5 price, then that would be closer to $300k. I would expect this book to pull a 3.0 from CGC, so the buyer would stand to gain $60k in "value" if the book's price is depressed because of the CBCS label.

  4. Here is my Detective 29. It was the copy from the Phil Weiss sale. The tape has been removed from the interior spine, but the staining can't be removed without calling it restored. Spine is gone, so the book would a 1.5 or so?

Congratulations! Nice copy. I know you've been looking for one for awhile ;)

Very solid copy for the grade - great eye appeal. :takeit:

  5. Any complete copy of 31 seems to be $20k+ at this point, so that was a great value. Even better if the glue can be removed and still pull a blue 1.0. Given the potential for paper loss, there is a very good chance it would come back a 0.5. Even so, you'd be hard-pressed to find a 0.5 for less than $15k, so seems like a free roll if the buyer sends it in.

  6. Did any of of buy the 31 or 35 that sold on eBay tonight? Someone got a great deal

Honestly i think the seller did a very poor job. I would have gone after a few of those books but i am not willing to drop 10k+ on a book with those poor pictures. I suspect that impacted the prices. I also think there could be a lot more defects that were not visable which is common of low grade books like that.

That was definitely a "not how to" guide on selling big dollar books. Seller did not do himself any favors, to be sure.

  7. I think it would've sold for even more if that stamp wasn't on the front cover. I like date stamps; 4-line name & address stamps on the middle front cover, not so much.

Yes, could well have sold for more. I love that particular stamp because it neatly shows the name of the OO living in late 1950s Nebraska, probably a teenage girl when she purchased the comic to read the adventures of Superboy. She is probably still alive. Such a cool copy.

    so...likely born in 1943 or 1944.

She still lives in Omaha, and her phone number can be found online with a 5 minute google search. Amazing.

The house she lives in as a 3BR/1.5BA single family home - 1092 sq ft - and was built in 1962. I wonder if she got married right after high school, and has lived in this house ever since...?
