  1. The yellow on that second copy looks crisper. Is it foxing or tanning affected the original poster's comic? Would cleaning brighten it up at all? Again, noob here in terms of stuff like cleaning. @BuscemasAvengers I would rate yours closer to an 8.0 personally. Simply because of the brightness on the yellow.
  2. I appreciate all of the feedback. I know a guy who, from what I have seen, does very good work. I feel confident the back corner can be flattened and look really good, as well as the spine. The longer crease on the FC, I am hoping will be made fainter but I don't have aspirations of it disappearing altogether. As is, I have this at a 4.0 which seems to jive with what others have said. If I can bump it to a 5.0 (which I feel is doable) or possibly even a 5.5, I will be happy. All in, I would be under $50 with pressing and shipping so I feel it is a worthwhile move. I may get it graded too simply because it is a book I see going up in coming years and one that I may sell down the road for more personally desired issues.
  3. The cover seems dull but this may be a time period thing... Either way, 7.0-7.5 for me. Possibly higher. This era gets graded differently by CGC and I have yet to master how they tackled Golden Age books.
  4. Personally I don’t care much for XMen. Owning a high grade Hulk 181 is only gonna grow in value plus ASM 129 is a key I covet owning one day. No go for me.
  5. This eBay purchase arrived. For $20 plus other random low grade books I’d say it was a good find!
  6. So I scored this in a lot that was poorly posted on eBay. Very cheap and thankfully the book is all there. Wondering what you all think it grades as is and if pressing has any chance of getting this thing near a 6.0 or dare I say higher. I welcome all thoughts!
  7. Not going to share the original grade? hard to tell from the pictures but there appears to be a scrape near Harley’s breast. Not sure if that’s on case or comic. If it’s comic your chances of a 9.8 are gone.
  8. Post some pics. You have some yesses, you have some no's. The yesses depend on condition though.
  9. ^Right so you deserve to know On a separate belief, I think it is extremely risky to chase 9.8's. For the reasons you and I have mentioned, it can become a gamble that either pays off or results in a waste of time. I appreciate you 9.8 chasers but it's not a business model I would use.
  10. Even with the bindery flaw and the ink marks on spine, I think you could pull a 9.2, provided they are a production error.
  11. Right but the original poster could not see what made it a 9.6 instead of a 9.8. I feel regardless, some note should be put to explain. And I feel I have a good grasp of grading. But at the end of the day, it is still an opinion. Just like it is an opinion from CGC graders. They have a guideline, sure, but multiple lines and parts are open to interpretation. As I have said before, it is why I can think a book is 9.0, you could think it is 9.2 and CGC could grade it 8.5.
  12. People get a weird high from "I saw it first and knew what happened before YOUUUUU" and like ruin things for people. Personally, I'm not someone who ruins movies but I am also not someone who gets all bent out of shape if I hear some details. I can still enjoy a film knowing roughly what happens. For example, we knew a lot of characters would die at the end of last film thanks to multiple leaks but I still felt the moment was impactful when it happened on screen.
  13. Yeah but, even if their notes is "small indent on spine" or "minor scrape near title logo" or whatever, if they took a note why can't the person who sent the book in see it? Surely CGC is set up so that there are existing comments on books and when they enter it into the database, something is put in there. My guess, because it is a business and mistakes are made, is that whoever entered it in did not add a note like they were supposed to. To me, I view no notes on something imperfect as someone somewhere cutting corners or making an error that should be fixed (ie regrading for free if the original grader's notes are lost). And if they took no notes, well why isn't it a 9.8?
  14. I would want feedback As a teacher, if a student asked where they missed marks, I tell them (or if its something like a paper, I leave feedback so they understand why their paper was graded the way it was). The same should apply to comics but sadly, does not. It is an opinion. And that opinion should have a basis. Even one note saying "tiniest flaw here" to explain. It is things like this that make me avoid grading books. I like the idea of slabbing and protecting but I don't like that it is an opinion. That a book could be an 8.0 to some, an 8.5 to a few and a 7.5 to a few more. If there are no flaws explained it should be a 9.8
  15. 5.5-6.0 as is. Pressing should bump a half grade at least to a hopeful 6.0-6.5. If you got a 7.0 or better, you should be elated.
  16. I will also go 9.6 just because I don;t ever count on or expect 9.8. It looks solid though, I would say potential is there.
  17. Couple of spine dings. Is there tanning? Hard to tell cuz of the bag. It looks decently white which is tough for this ish. I am gonna say 8.0-8.5
  18. Based on what I can see, VG, so around 4.0-4.5. That tape pull or whatever that has torn off the 0 in the price hurts it. If that flaw was not there, I think you are in the Fine range. As for value, in this condition, they have gone for $150-200. Yours presents nice, just depends on how a buyer feels about that tape pull/missing 0.
  19. ^Awesome, that makes sense. Definitely an early piece of Batman movie/TV history.
  20. I want to thank Monster-n-heroes aka Rich on here for sending this dream book my way! Low grade but that cover still presents amazingly well! Thanks Rich!
  21. Part of me wonders if the "grade bumps" are to help future business and ensure they receive any and all comics. Because at the end of the day, I feel I could argue over 0.5 of a grade with most anyone. They see a 6.5, I see a solid 6.0. It is why I love CGC stuff but personally am hesitant to send many things their way. Although some of the LB Cole stuff I have acquired lately has me wanting them preserved behind that lovely blue plastic
  22. They did? I know they had a serial called "The Batman" in 1943. Cannot find any reference to it being called "The Phantom". The Phantom is an actual superhero character, and I was trying to find out if at any point, the two characters crossed over in their serials. That poster just seems bizarre saying "the Phantom" on it but showing a picture of Batman. I did find this still image showing Batman and Phantom, presumably together in some episode. However, upon looking at the episode lists for both serials from this era, I cannot see any indication that a crossover happened. I had thought maybe this poster was advertising one of the serial episodes because, as I understand it, they were released weekly in theatres back in the 40's. So while the serial was 15 episodes or parts, together it told all one story. Again, this is based on my limited googling skills.
