  1. Nice book! That spine crease is similar to one I have on my copy of ASM 62 and I have always wondered if it would have a shot at 8.0 with such a crease. Anyways, this book has some other spine wear so safely, I am feeling 7.0ish
  2. I am going to go with what I am currently reading....its an artistic trip and can be a difficult read but worth diving into. It is a four issue mini series published in those thinner graphic novel formats back in the later 80s
  3. Yes similar feeling, although with a comic shop, I never feel that way. I figure secondhand bookstores, pawn shops, antique stores are much more likely to have hidden treasures. That or they price every comic no matter the condition at $20-30. Either way though, there is that excitement and prospect of dollar bins or $2 bins that may have some treasuries within!
  4. Alright folks! Here is the collection. Pretty much all Dell cartoon stuff, all ten cents and all VG ish give or take a few higher and lower Each has homemade notes from the guy who owned them. Now I’m not a cartoon character collector so I don’t see anything of major wow…still neat though. But then…from within the ashes…an actual treasure! Its rough but hey it’s all there.
  5. So far you are the winner....although you said No Neal and there is definitely one Neal haha 20-30 mystery books remain though....a diamond in the rough? More rough in the rough? My expectations are tempered greatly having seen what is there (seems like a stack he picked up while yard saling once for the fun of it or perhaps he did dabble in comics and bought these from the store that was open in the 70s and 80s that stamped and markered the heck outta the books, hence that penile looking 6 on Batman as the mark down to 6 cents)
  6. Hahahahahhahaha Also I think that’s Action 339 peeking out from behind on an unrelated, non phallic note
  7. Alright so she forgot to bring today…she was mad at herself haha I told her not to worry I’ll just keep bugging her as she insisted I do so until she brings them in. But I did get images sent tonight. Just a few. Looks like a true menagerie of lower grade everything. Hopefully there something good but it’s just neat to see some stuff someone held onto. The silica gel packets in the shoe box are a nice touch as are the homemade notes for each issue
  8. CGC is harsh on moderns so I will go 7.5-8.0 with the spine crease and wear on back bottom
  9. I'm guessing that crease you inquired about in the original post is what they noted in the notes. Those other two bends/ticks it is hard to see if they existed before hand. This is why I take extensive images of anything going CGCs way...to show what it was and I also take video too. Time consuming but then again I only send in 20-50 books a year
  10. If the crease on the back is present on the front and can be seen (ie breaks colour), max 4.5-5.0. Otherwise, if it can be pressed to minimize the apperance, I think 6.0 is possible
  11. 5.5-6.0 from me. That top staple looks close to popping through, unless I am imagining it.
  12. The term (as others have said) is distributor ink overspray. As for its effect, depends on severity. Yours I would call moderate since it is the entire spine and very noticeable (minor cases you usually see a small splotch on the top edge of a cover, in addition to the top of the pages being coloured. I've seen blue, red, orange and green used before. But again, back to your book. I would think 8.0-8.5. Personally the ink should keep the book out of the 9.2 and up range with that amount but I guess the only way to confirm would be to send it in!
  13. Original poster: "Hey guys, I just started collecting....here is what I have!" Proceeds to put my 4000+ book collection to shame within a couple pictures. Seriously though, hot start. 10 year old me did NOT start out like that and even 33 year is lacking some of those!
  14. 1.8 from me mayyybbeeee 2.0 if they feel like being nice and acknowledge that these books are hard to even find in ANY condition
  15. 7.5 They will hammer that crease on the back along with the tanned top edge.
  16. Awesome finds! That Thing From Another World Series seems to sell for high amounts (that series you have the issue for and some from the Dark Horse run)...any ideas why?
  17. Yup...I did the same. Still a view I missed though that I might want to scoop up sooner rather than later
  18. I picked up a lot of the bronze age Batties about a decade or so ago. Great prices then and still decent prices now for many. I agree though, higher grades on many are tough....most of mine are solid 5.0-6.0 range. I cannot say I have many from that era that are high grade except for Detective Comics 425 which I think might eke out 8.0-8.5
  19. Awesome I've been cutting out MVS from books that are too far gone and saving them...one day I hope to find a booklet to put them in. I doubt I will ever get a full set but would be cool to start with what I have
  20. Hold it under good lighting outside of a comic bag. If you see any indentations at all or faint bends, then a press will likely remove those so it is as flat as can be. Reality is though yes, people in the grade me forum will say "clean and press" despite a book actually needing it. And 99% of pressers will say "press for best possible results" in part due to honesty but also, they want the work. It's rare to find someone who looks at any modern book and says "nah, it is as it is" but there are definitely books like that. I'll use Secret Wars 8 that I recently sent in. To me, flawless. No spine ticks, no creases, no dirt. However, when I took out of the bag and look at it under goo lighting, I saw a faint indentation at the top edge of the book. Very very minor but present. I opted for a press as it could be a difference maker. However, had I not seen this, I would have asked for it to be left alone.
  21. Update! Comics are coming for my viewing this week. They are out and she forgot them today but I am expecting I will see them tomorrow. They did belong to her husband's uncle who sadly passed away about a decade ago. He was 86 at the time. They are just in a shoebox and were given to her husband who has just had them stored all this time. So I am doubting they are 90s junk or even 80s. I am going to put my top 3 guesses now and we shall see what happens 1. Westerns/War related books...maybe even a couple good ones 2. Gold Key/Charlton books with some cartoonish characters mixed in. 3. DC/Marvel stuff from the 60s. Hey, I gotta have a dream scenario in the top 3 right?
