  1. I was pulling out some books for display and noticed the following on my ASM 265 Under Spideys foot you can see a dark ring. One might assume it is a stain of some sort but it’s not. It actually matches up perfect with the circular image seen on the inside cover. I checked eBay and some copies have this, others do not. Just thought I would shed light on a potential printing flaw that seems common and I wasn’t sure anyone had ever mentioned it before
  2. 8.0 Looks as good or better than my X-Men 101 with similar issues. Cleaning the back could ensure 8.0 or better
  3. 8.0-8.5 as is. 9.0 potential after clean and press It is hard to tell if there are faint spine ticks and the top corner is a little frayed. I think 7.5 is harsh for this one and 9.0 would be best case scenario after some work so its 8.0-8.5 from me.
  4. That is what I figured....I just don't want the book to be a dark stained and ugly mess in the future. If removing the staples can help with that, I would tackle it. Would rather that than have the book destined to get worse and worse until it looks like some that I have seen where the rust has really destroyed the book.
  5. Hi all! So I have this book. It’s rough but I love it. I know it’s a 1.0-1.5 at best. I would really like to stop further rust migration at the staples and was wondering if this is even possible. Or is the book just destined now over time to continue to developers darker and darker stains around the staple? Or will proper storage keep it as is for another 40 years or so? I appreciate any insight!
  6. Same, quarter bin find pre pandemic. It is a solid cover for a 90s cover!
  7. And in regards to "weekly hot books", I never chased them anyways. Nor did I try to sell anything when a book was hot (although it was always nice to see books I already have get a bump in value). These bumps though are getting less and less, if at all. I also used last year to acquire some books I thought had good "grade and sell for profit" potential. I spent around $2800 all in on 13 books (cost to acquire, grade, clean, press, ship, etc). I am still waiting on 5 of them and currenly have made $2300 on the others. I anticipate making close to $1000 (even with the drops in value) off the ones remaining which puts me in the green for my investments for the year, although perhaps not as green had I gotten the books back sooner (and done this experiment in 2020 versus last year). Either way, I am unlikely to try investing in some books unless they are bona fide desired books that have stood the test of time. A couple I took gambles with like Avengers 46, Jungle Action 6 and Thor 166 I should still make out okay on because of the small price invested and the fact that some of the grades should be quite high.
  8. Yes More so the fact though that people are still asking 2021 prices. I am sorry, maybe last year I would pay $15-20 for a high grade run filler book but right now, I can't and also do not want to. $5-10, sure. I also see people listing a lot of common stuff I have. And right now, I am happy to wait as prices come down before I jump on anything major. Typically, y buying does tend to slow around this time anyway (April to July) before it picks back up end of summer and into the fall.
  9. So after a couple hectic weeks, I was able to chat with my colleagues again. I encouraged X-Men 4 guy to dig it outta the closet and I also reminded "comics from neighbour" friend to bring her box of goodies in. She also clarified that the comics were actually from her husband's uncle, not a neighbour. She also said to make sure I bug her every couple days until she brings them in so here is hoping within the next week, I have pictures of awesomeness to share with you all!
  10. I'm sorry but if you have a book saying "hey this comic in this book is worth $20" but I can pull up 20 sales in the past month, all for $5, I am going to offer you $5-10 for the book. I prefer real time data and there are enough apps, websites and ways to find this as quickly as flipping through a 5lb book.
  11. Suppose a 9.8 goes for $500 Suppose a 9.6 goes for $200 Suppose the 9.8 I have is fugly. And I know it. I can be honest (always a good choice) and share that and perhaps price closer to $400-450 range, and be open to offers. Or I can say nothing and sell as the 9.8 is pretends to be (a lot of poeple will do this without hesitation). The final thing I would do is make sure the buyer was aware (for example on ebay, if someone say me with it priced BIN for $440 and though hey what a deal and clicked buy before actually reading what I wrote....I might be inclined to send a quick message just to make sure before I ship so that there is not a whole waste of time with me sending a book, them getting and hating, them sending back and so on).
  12. I see no reason in lugging around a book when everything I could ever want to find out a price for can be done digitally. And gives me a much more accurate number IMO real time.
  13. I also am fine with prices dropping. Miraculously I only bought two books during the pandemic (Cap 117 and Werewolf By Night 33) that might take a hit and fall below what I spent on them ($275 and $200 respectively in 5.5 and 7.5 raw respectively). I also spent about $400 on 3 books with the intent to sell for profit that, at worst, I will break even on (good ole CGC and 8+ months of waiting). Ah well...it is still more fun to add for me and to do so at prices I like and that may become much more doable in the coming months. I don't think prices will fall back to pre pandemic. Books that got unecessary bumps into the stratosphere though will come falling hard. Here's looking at you Wolverin #1 from 1988. I also think certain books are going to be very VERY tough to move. I have noticed that books that were $30-50 last year that have minor key appearances are moving slowly even when discounted down to $15-20. Everyone is holding their money tighter right now and spending it more essentially...at least the collectors of those types of books because many are in the lower to medium income category (generally).
  14. Pictures are definitely helpful But based on the notes, very light spine stress lines likely means they are colour breaking. Again, pictures of the spine front and back will help determine this. If you can see minute white spine ticks, pressing will do nothing. If you cannot, maybeeeee there are some stress lines that could be pressed but it would still be a gamble.
  15. Definitely possible. The inner wells they use now switch the book and can create a ripple which maybe does more harm l. Maybe that played a roll here??
  16. I don’t really care what becomes “big”. It’s more so I spent money on books when others were $100-500 thinking “oh I’ll get those in a few years when I have more money” when really I should have just bought less and saved for the bigger purchases. Now those books are double or triple if not more
  17. As has been said. You can see reprint in the top left. Worth maybe $1 to someone who wants to read it. Restoring would cost hundreds and it would be worth $20-40 tops so there is your answer.
  18. This will either happen OR they will be able to identify the staples seeming looser or not appearing bent/pressing/laying in the same spot original to the book. It boils down to the person's ability. Me, well CGC would surely know. Someone with experience? Better odds for sure of going undetected.
  19. Reality is one spine tick sometimes get a 9.8 Does it always if a book is otherwise flawless? No. Should it always? That depends on who ya ask. Most would probably say no. And agree with the corner chip. I have seen some graders grade something like that as a 9.8 and others a 9.6. As someone who cares not about whether a book is 9.6 or 9.8, I am unaffected. But many are.
  20. Bag. Why not? There are some great bags out there and why not keep that case shiny and scratch free
  21. Probably been more selective and buy more comics that were $100-500 then but are nowhere near that now.
  22. I also love Invaders. Great covers, solid stories, poor art. Robbins grows on you but there is never anything inside to excite until later in the run. Even then was never exciting inside. A shame though as that series had the potential. I imagine a guy like Kubert doing this title. Sigh...if only back in the day
  23. I wouldn't even pay $2000 for that book. $1000 maybe just for its age and being a 9.8. But 8 grand?!?!?! For first appearance of the Nexus of all Realities? Soooooo that gets mentioned in a movie/show and the buyer thinks "yes! $16000 book you are now, time to sell!"? I mean, maybe there is a guy out there needing this book for his 9.8 run and he is missing it and he has giant sized man things tattoed all over him and near his posterior, a Nexus tat so he is very VERY hardcore and needs this book and won't care what it costs.......yeah I am sure that guy exists for this person to sell to down the road and profit
  24. Lol Hot book this month! 1% gain from last month sales! Wooooo! Or "a CGC 9.0 sold for $5500. While not the record, blahdey blahdey blahdey blah still a good book to own"
