  1. So when people say "modern" comics, I generally view 1990-now...which is a HUGE range Within that huge range, there are definitely books with value that I believe will maintain value and continue to grow, despite the high amount of availability in the market. The demand is there (thinking characters like Deadpool and Mile Morales). For others, I am MUCH more wary (ex first Silk or Amadeus Cho). Mainly because personally, I have not talked to as many "fans" of these characters to know if the demand truly exists OR to know if the demand if purely driven by speculation. For me, the problem comes into play when you have people buying a book for the sole reason of selling for more down the road. If that is the sole reason driving sales, it means major issues down the road, even if the character appears in a movie and even if the movie does well. My example here is Carnage. People seem to think that ASM 361 did not explode when the movie came out because the movie wasn't well received. Granted, that is a factor yes, but I think the bigger problem was literally EVERYBODY was trying to sell this book....and the true Carnage fans either already had theirs or were unwilling to pay crazy amounts. That is why this book dropped ever since the trailer and has continued to do so to this day. People buying these weekly "hot books" or books the become valuable after a trailer have to ask themselves "Am I buying this because I like it or because others have it and it has value and I think I should have it?" If it is the second reason, I don't think it bodes well long term for the value of the book....especially, again, if you have people buying a book solely for the purpose of selling it. Initially, yes there will be a lot of sales but later down the road, those sales won't happen (and certainly not at the price you hope for) because again, the "I bought to sell" market has already done so and you are really only trying to find the person late to the game or who is a true fan of the character that does not already own the book. That or a brand new fan clueless of a price point and just willing to spend, but I feel like those are rare.
  2. Hi Wiffy and welcome! Based on what I see, issues 3 and 4 definitely would not improve with a press. A clean might make them more presentable. The others, it is hard to tell. First Electro and Mysterio, you might be able to remove some of the spine roll but the amount of wear might still keep them in the 2.0-3.5 range regardless. The Hulk issue it is hard to tell and same goes for the other Spideys. Best case scenario, you might get a 0.5 bump on a couple. Worst case, you could waste the $20-30 to do the cleaning on every book and still get the same results on each book had they been left untouched.
  3. Oh I love it...and hate it in some ways...but mostly love it. I am intrigued about its history really. Who had it, how did they find it? And also verifying it...like how? Finally, I am intrigued who bought it? Why? Are they a rich investor or a huge comic fan who knows this may be as close as they will get to owning literally a piece of this issue. More intriguing questions than annoyance really about such an item.
  4. CGC obviously had no problem grading that...I would have respected them more had they green labelled it and noted "entire book trimmed off around cover price"....that would have warranted a solid
  5. 5.0 seems harsh. Yes there is a small tear but it is tiny. 6.0 seems tops it could get so I am feeling 5.5
  6. A gracious boardie sold me a copy of this book during the boom for a great price. Have always loved the red on this book!! Anyways, mine is a 2.0-2.5 or so I say. This is definitely a 3.5 with a shot at a 4.
  7. I mean, trimmed books clearly get blue labels now.... this entire book was trimmed and still managed to!
  8. I'll go 8.0. I think 7.5 is a tad harsh and 8.5 might be a tad generous.
  9. How do you know the book was never opened? The spine (to me anyway) shows evidence of being opened several times. And yes, those corners will keep it from a 9.8. 9.4 range seems likely.
  10. Bottom and top of spine decently abraded/rounded...perhaps that was the added whack down from what appeared 9.2/9.4 ?
  11. Buildings????? You mean the window dividers? Or the stairs that Spidey is on....I am so confused
  12. Wow this thread was resurrected big time lol. I still have the book raw as part of my run I labelled it a 9.2 for my own record keeping
  13. The book on ebay has one coupon cut. Hence 1.8. Yours has two, hence lower. More damage/more incompleteness = lower grade.
  14. I agree with this as far as expectations. 8.0 would be a happy grader day and tops possible.
  15. Looks very similar to my copy....you have worse staple tears that mine doesn't and mine has a small tear at top of spine (which yours doesn't). I have always though of my copy as 5.5 so I will say yours is in that range, 5.5-6.0
  16. Book looks like it has flaws that would put it around a 5.0 before a press either way. Tons of spine ticks, staple wear, corner crease. All non-fixable things from a press.
  17. 4.0 seems harsh. I would go 4.5 since I feel 5.0 might be a tad generous.
  18. I’d ask the genie what charity, donate some money now and then tell the genie to bugger off!
  19. I don’t regard those silver age grails as “graily” enough. I’d go for the book. A golden age book that is virtually untouchable like a Batman or Action 1 or Tec 27? Definitely would consider a page there. As for the amount well the market tends to dictate that so not much I can do but follow and try to outbid if I wanted one ☝️
  20. 9.4 and higher rarely get notes If you wonder why your book isn’t higher it’s usually the following -corners aren’t as sharp -spine tick, even if barely noticeablr -interior flaw (maybe larger than desired printing tears in the margins, colour or ink smearing, etc)
