  1. If that is a rip, I agree with 3.5-4.0 Otherwise if just a colour breaking wrinkle, I could see 5.0
  2. Probably 5.0. The spine is brown/tannish suggesting that paper is getting weaker and weaker which sucks but what can ya do.
  3. I agree with this 100%. If you bid on the item and it closed and you won, there is not way to delete it. So eBay has record of it. If they don't, they messed up. If you made a deal outside of eBay and the seller closed the listed or deleted it to do so, well then yes, it would be gone. And doing this is very very risky. I would recommend that if doing something like this, you have the seller recreate the listing with an "or best offer" option. Then, as soon as it is live, you submit your offer and they accept it. This way there is a complete record of such a thing. That or you know, don't make side deals (if this even happened that is) And yes, some of the aforementioned sellers are terrible for this and should be left alone. Sadly, of the hundreds of thousands in this hobby, there are still amateurs, young and old, who buy from these folks unknowingly. If someone hides restoration or puts it in an obscure place, I would avoid. Restoration should be highlighted in the description, easy and plain to see. Someone who doesn't do this is trying to hide it in hopes of the best possible sale.
  4. No As of this moment, CGC only verifies signatures that one of their witness see. It's a harsh stance that many disagree with but they have done this forever. If you send to CGC you will either get a green label (noting the autograph on the cover as a "name" written on the cover) or you could get a blue label but they would dock you for the writing. Most people prefer the green in these cases, especially if docking the book knocks it down more than a full grade.
  5. Oh and to answer the question in 1000% seriousness, CGC made an error on the label. The number on the case shows the book is legit and issue #2 does of this Marvel Collectible Classics does reprint that Spider-Man #1 McFarlane did. Whoever owns or is selling this has an error on their label, perhaps even they did not catch.
  6. Because....illuminati....and aliens...government mandates man! (puts tinfoil hat back on and dives into bunker)
  7. So um...I am not feelin VF here at all. The overspray thing at the top is not an issue. The scuff above the corner logo is. Also what is this on the back? Shadowing from the camera? Sun shade? A fold that can be pressed? The spine itself has some decent wear at the bottom, and in the white area between DD head and Spidey's there appears to be foxing or some soiling of some kind? Adding all of this up and I am not too sure it will be better than your 6.5 to be honest....might be about the same.
  8. I am around a 7.5. Structurally I like it. The tanning or discoloured edges on the back cover kill it for me. It looks nicer structurally than a 7.0 ASM 23 I have but the brownness to the back seems worse so I am giving it a structural bump based on that.
  9. A beautiful 4.5 with a small shot at 5.0. Too many little things (and a decent size crease) I feel keeping it from higher.
  10. I see a 7.0 as is, with some press potential to possibly get to 7.5 at the worst. Cool book you dont see often in a decent grade!
  11. If someone messages me saying they have what I want and have been here for less than 6 months (and seem really inactive), I have flags up times a million until I get references, pictures that make me happy, calling to speak in person even, etc. Otherwise, I just keep on walking. But definitely reporting and sharing so new folks don't get trapped is key.
  12. 238- Slight miswrap so not 9.8 for me. Looks sharp so 9.4 for me 361- nothing noticeable although the top left on the back appears to have some creases? dents? in the blue area. So I will say 9.4-9.6 252- staple stress, spine ticks. Reminds me of my 9.0 so I will say 9.0
  13. There are people who love their page quality to be white or off-white to white at worst. I am one, although on an older book I would be fine with cream to off-white. In term of cost, if a 9.4 book with off-white to white pages is cheaper than a 9.4 white pager, I will take the cheaper book. It is not a huge to do for me. Plus I have seen it enough times where a white pager gets reslabbed and comes back as off-white/white....vice versa too. So to me it's all the same and like grading itself, subjective to a degree.
  14. I feel like I answered this thread but can't recall so I will keep it brief haha I always sold some stuff to fund the hobby. But to get books in my collection, I was mostly buying for me. Now that I am older and have money (and lots of books) I buy stuff I don't want to sell to fund the hobby more often because I can do so without worrying so much, compared to when I was 15-25 going to school and trying to make sure money went more important places (while spending a little here and there for the odd comic for me)
  15. Sold a Planet Comics book to George...tried to sell more that I forgot I didn't have haha. He is a great buyer and I hope to deal with him again in the future!
  16. Would not resubmit. None of the grader's notes make note of pressable or cleanable defects still present. The spine ticks and wear around staple will not go away, neither will foxing to cover, neither will crease on top of cover.
  17. I mean if you are that worried, have them call you. Exchange tracking numbers, take a quick second to confirm that its in the system, then send the money? Ask for a picture of the receipt? Ask for a picture of the package to confirm it has been packaged? All are things that I have done. Some could be faked sure but if a seller is willing to do all that, I think all will go down a-OK. The biggest thing is references. If I have zero way to get a reference and no one can vouch for them in any capacity either on here or on the sites I used, I avoid. I also avoid Instagram like the plague for buying, selling and trading. It's too wild of a community there for me. Some great people, some not so great and a LOT of lowballers who just want keys for cheap so they can flip them.
  18. A great question So within this past year, I sent off my first ever CGC submissions. My first in February, returned early June. I have since sent off two (August and October) and they have not returned. I purchase comics on occassion solely for the purpose of reselling to fund the hobby and last year, decided to start sending some of the nicer stuff to CGC. For example, if I find a book for $125 that I know I could sell raw for $200 BUT if graded where I think it could grade, it could be closer to $400, well I will go down that road and take the risk because from my own practices, I usually undergrade it seems. So I decided to do that. In the last year, people have been doing this more and more in hopes of getting books back in time for movie or show releases only to have that plan fail. Thankfully, I only did this with one book (and I don't think it will hinder me when I get it back). My suggestion is if you are looking for quick money back to continue to fund your hobby, grading right now is lengthy and not the best option. We all hope 2022 sees this corrected, likely towards the latter half of the year as I am predicting that they have received a lot fewer books over the past 6 months compared to the six before that (but maybe not, maybe they are still getting as many submissions as they were last spring). However, if you aren't in a rush and you have certain books that will sell more graded (and you trust where you think it will grade at), then I would still submit. For me, like I mentioned, the books I am selling there was not rush to sell. They weren't hot books of the week. They were trusted keys and books people generally value and desire regardless of the movie world. I mean, if a raw VF copy for a book sells for $200-250 but a grade copy sells for double that or more in that grade, I think its a no brainer to grade it and wait for the extra profits. Again, I can see the desire for quick cash and a quick turnover if you enjoy buyer lots and don't want to dip into the actual pockets for the hobby. Hopefully this provides some insight! And as others have mentioned, some books it makes no sense to grade because a raw VG will sell for $150, graded for $200. Situations like this don't make sense to grade and there are plenty of books like this, across all eras and grades. It all requires decent pricing research and there are plenty of sites, apps and personal ways to do that to ensure that grading for resale is worthwhile.
  19. Thanks for your insight! I was afraid of this regarding the tear. I am still super stoked about it overall though (paid less than $100 for it which to me was a no brainer) so I might grade it either way. Was really hoping it would get into the 9.0s but that top left corner I agree, its a degrading factor
  20. No If you see white it means colour is broken and you cannot undo that. Spine creases or stress marks that are more like indents are the pressable spine flaws
  21. The pictures look worse IMO. In person, that corner is there just like minutely blunted....even so does that warrant a whole 1.0+ deduction? It is defects like that that I am most curious about and if it comes back an 8.0-8.5 well clearly they hammer it. I was eying a couple 9.0-9.4 copies of this that sold on HA in the last year though and a couple have corners similar to this so that is why my hopes were higher...especially since a couple of those copies had worse spines
