PGM: The Amazing Spider-Man #69
comicginger1789 replied to creaturefan95's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Moderate spine wear, edge wear, some spots of colour loss or rub on cover, corner creases, small edge tears on back cover. All adds up to a 3.5 in my world. Maybe a 4.0 but that would be the limit for me anyway. -
Let me elaborate on why the OP should NOT press. Most of the damage is to the spine (press won't change) and to the bottom and top edge (some light colour loss spots which again, a press won't fix). The book is dirty, as seen in the white's of the logo and back and a good cleaner could sharpen up that which would give a better chance at a boost. If you are having someone press this and they are telling you to because it will boost the grade (and they are not cleaning it), you should pick another presser. My 2 cents.

Agree if the book is cleaned. Wouldn't waste moolah on pressing though.

With the amount of spine wear and edge wear, 4.5 seems right as is. Even if you clean up the back, I don't know if 5.0 is obtainable but if it is, that would be about the max for the book in my eyes. -

Those tears may not align with the interior page ones (common for books from this time) and believe it or not, I have seen books with those same cover tears get 9.4-9.6 grades. Granted, if severe, an impact on the grade will be seen. The one on the back is pretty harsh. That being said, I would not be surprised if it came in 9.2-9.4 -
PGM Tales of Suspense 48

Yeah definitely nicer than a 4.5. Given how CGC has been lately with this era of books (which is more lenient), I could see 5.5 for sure. I think a lot of the edge wear keeps it from an outright 6.0 but crazier things have happened. -
Fantastic Four #5 guidance on resubmitting
comicginger1789 replied to StevoR's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Excellent point. With the rust/moisture damage around the staple area, you would def run the risk of those staples popping. Even a pro might have difficulties (and a true pro would probably pass on doing it knowing it will not help the grade). An amateur or newer presser probably would tell you do it, try and pop the staple, leaving you unhappy I would assume. -
Mine is a beater. Acquired from a guy who just had these sitting at his cottage for years. It’s been restapled, has writing and a local stamp on the cover plus a wicked spine roll. Maybbbeeee I could have had that fixed but I didn’t have aspirations of anything better than a 1.0 and here it is. Plus for under $400 all in graded, I shall not complain.

PGM Amazing Spider-Man 300

So your book has some defects that you could press out or have pressed out (CGC offers this service or you can find someone reputable to do it before you send to CGC) As for the grade the logo of Spidey on the cover in corner appears to have some indents and the back bottom right corner appears to have some colour rub/loss As is I am around 8.5 and it might make it to 9.0 with a press. Clean I don’t think is necessary unless you can tell there is some contact dirt in the white areas (doesn’t appear to be) -

comicginger1789 replied to StevoR's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Does spine roll hurt? Sure. But for me what keeps this book a 2.0 is the writing in the cover and the rusty looking staples. If the staples were not rusty like that I think you would have gotten a 2.5-3.0. I wouldn’t waste the money on it unless you want a press to fix the roll and have it present a bit better -
These may not be what the original post was looking for but it’s EXACTLY what I was hoping to see when I clicked on the thread! Great stuff!

I have ASM 252 that the front cover looks 9.6ish easy. On the back however, is where there are 8-9 minute spine ticks. To me the back cover is more 8.0 ish (and personally where I graded the book at and was expected upon its return). CGC gave it a 9.0...which may be generous for some or sensible given that the front was sharp, the back less so and they averaged it out.

That’s what I get for trading my sun fade pic with him for a pic of his mystery box. Sighhhhhh. Maybe one day I’ll leak those photos…maybe. -

How’s you get that pic of me? I thought I had removed all my smutty internet butt pics!?! -
Another drop? Fine then. $300 shipped!

Plenty of variety in these donations and that is fine. Some people donate prizes that may value a couple hundred dollars (these are generally chosen first), others prizes in the $50-100 range and some less. And besides it’s not always about the dollar value. Someone may have a $50 book or package that someone really wants over say a $100 gift card. I think as long as your prize isn’t a bunch of tattered coverless 90s comics as part of your “mystery box” donation, then whatever you come up with will be loved by someone!

I’m also in 5.0-5.5 territory only because I know how CGC hammers stains -
CGC plans to start hosting grading contests on a regular basis!

I will vote a mix of books and I cannot wait for this!!! -
Definitely a cool oddity However as someone who would pay more for a double or multiple cover, I would never pay more for something like this. Maybe that is just my sentiment and there probably is a collector of unique defects who would pay more. The question is how much....5 times? 10? Curious to know

Let's drop the price a bit...$320USD shipped!
