  1. My wife is a hoarder. Not one which would qualify for the cable TV show but enough to more than get on my nerves. Anytime I'd mention about getting rid of that decades old ever growing pile of old clothes, knick-knacks etc I would get the 'yeah well what about all those comics...". That ended once I got a CGC box back with Hulk 181, FF 48 GSX 1, HOS 92 etc
  2. have about 1500 total. 60 or so slabbed
  3. Don't know where the other 2 threads are so I'll respond to this one Former/Seller - collected form late 70's to late 80's. Moving into my late 50's and starting to plan for downsizing. Loved the books so much that I kept them for 40 years. Kids have absolutely zero interest in them so it's time to start the slow process of finding them new homes. It started a year+ ago when I was home for a couple of weeks due my wife recovering from an surgery which gave me time to go thru & catalog them. That led me to investigating how to go about selling them which led me to here & learning about slabbing etc. I've found the whole process enjoyable from "meeting" people here to dealing with Ebay buyers (so far all pleasant experiences)
  4. 'SUBMIT" -> "Services & Fees" from the home page
  5. I don't have any paid subscription services but for the handful of slabs I've sold, they are pretty close to what most eBay sold prices show
  6. got an email last night from CGC saying the card was being charged (rcvd at CGC 11/4)
  7. I'll say it first - why can't you keep both? to me A) looks more pleasing overall. Seems like most of the defects are concentrated in that LLC
  8. just 2 in there? I guess that left room for lotsa padding - which I imagine saved them. Good for you!
  9. Long day at work - just checked & I do not see it on any of my credit card accounts yet
  10. I'll check when I get home since I can never remember the password.
  11. Batch of moderns made it to CGC on 10/26 early morning according to USPS Tracking. Marked as received today - 5 working days
  12. I'll add 1 more before heading up to watch the rest of game 7 in bed. This time from Marvel. Galactus. 1st off, the look. He just didn't look like anyone else and I loved the tuning fork helmet look. He rocks purple better than the Hulk 2nd, it was always an event when he showed up, especially back then. It just made the whole comic seem more important The exotic power that could do pretty much anything And it meant the Surfer was around.
  13. The Flash. Maybe partially because it was the 1st comic I ever read when my dad came down the basement and tossed it to me (turning a 9.4 into a 8.0 I'm sure) Super speed just seemed like the coolest power. You could be almost everywhere at once, run up buildings and on water. Being able to walk thru walls. Plus ur homework is always done in a second!
  14. there's a "Value or Economy" thread right below yours with basically the same thing you're asking concerning the value you make while submitting. It's more of a value for insurance purposes Welcome to the boards.
  15. I'd say 8.0 due to that LRC crease
  16. you can try the search function as this is a topic which has come up multiple times. Some type of sticky or example from CGC would be nice. CGC has to insure the books while they hold them so think of the cost of tiers as being related to the premiums they pay for the various levels of book values. How much do you want your book insured for? That's the tier you pick. With the higher cost tiers you get (or should get) better turnaround time. If something happens to your book while out of your hands, then the tier level represents what you're insured for. At least this is the way I think about the tier levels & costs. You can determine a value per grade by using sites like Ebay, goCollect, GPA etc
  17. 9.4 or 9.6, or 8.0 for that matter, depend on a lot more than what you posted. You'll need some pics/scans of the front/back cover to get opinions.
  18. After that last season of GoT, I had zero confidence in what they'd do for Star Wars
  19. If I'm submitting it to sell it down the road, then it's worth the $10 fee (via 3rd party) for the things I wouldn't pick up when I look at the books. Proper selection, tier bundling etc make the extra shipping costs minimal.
  20. When I was an early teen at the LCS staring at the comics up on the wall behind the counter, I valued getting as many as I could vs the fewest with the highest grade (and more $$$) I even *read* them as soon as I got home. It's only now with the explosion of prices for high grades that I'm a little glad I paid for better copies for at least a couple of them.
  21. U sure don't, but I doubt people were practicing their Kirby forgeries back in 1980 trying to make a buck. I did have a couple of knowledgeable people look at scans and they thought it was legit but you can never know for sure. It was a thrill back then sitting at home and opening up the book for the 1st time.
  22. Found a Demon #1 in the dollar bin of my LCS circa 1980 time frame
  23. Prob not the right forum. No I dont think it affects the value at all. If a particular person doesn't prefer the labels then it may affect the demand for the slab, but that would have to be a significant number to make a diff.
