  1. looks a lot better than my Demon 1! I'll say 7.5 as is
  2. I've never used a press machine, but what I've done for certain raw books with small cover NCB bends/creases which aren't worth sending to a presser is to put a backing board between the cover & 1st page, place SRP on the cover & use a small travel iron (obv w no steam). Then I place the whole book between 2 more boards and sandwich that between 2 large hardback books with a 25lb weight plate for several hours. That actually gets those small bends/creases out w/o damaging anything. Yes, I saw that on Youtube.
  3. I've submitted books at the same tier level and gotten back with grades which would've put them in diff tier levels but haven't gotten charged the difference. I've read posts from others who were. I don't know the reasons why or why not. I wouldn't get worked up over it. My opinion - submit your books based on what you would want them insured for should something happen in conjunction with how long you're willing to wait for them (ie the turn around times). Keep in mind trying to submit books in same tiers to minimize your costs where possible. Each tier ships back when the books in that tier are done. So one submission which you indicate both value & modern would result in 2 shipments back to you. That's how it worked for me Now if you submit one batch of value and some end up getting charged the next tier - well I'd figure they wouldn't know that until after they were done (ie they'd have to know the grade to determine a higher FMV unless they do some sort of prescreen. If so hopefully you'd get faster TAT) so I'd think they'd all get done at once and hence would ship back all together. But that's just a guess on my part. You could always contact CGC & ask them directly.
  4. Very happy with the results I got from Joey over several submissions and have never had a communication problem.
  5. I think it's a confusion between having the 'freedom' to do something vs having the 'legal right' to do the same thing.
  6. I'm surprised as a Pet Supply store would shut - it's basically a grocery store for pets. I'm up in PA and a few weeks ago I mentioned to the wife about making sure we had a couple of months supply for the dog as he also has a special food. The pet supply store I usually go to is open though you have to order online for mail delivery or curb side pickup only.
  7. Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
  8. back in the late 70's when I started, the LCS' I visited had all back issues in bags. Only the stuff hanging on the walls or in the glass case had boards
  9. Bags for regular comics are thus broken into the following sizes: Golden Age: 7 3/4 x 10 1/2 inches (19.7 x 26.7 cm). ... Silver Age: 7 1/8 x 10 1/2 inches (18.1 x 26.7 cm). ... Regular: 7 1/4 x 10 1/2 inches (18.4 x 26.7 cm). ... Current: 6 7/8 x 10 1/2 inches (17.5 x 26.7 cm). edit: looks like MM hit return before I did ; you got 2 replies with the same info so we must be right!
  10. I wasn't able to see any status from an order # with a 3rd party presser. Of course you can always ask whomever you plan on using about getting status back periodically.
  11. You could post pics to the "Buddy Can You Spare a Grade" forum to get opinions on the condition. From there Ebay used sales/GoCollect/GPA etc could give you a range of values for those grades. I haven't heard of people getting bumped from the low $200 tiers to the next level. The few posts that I saw were always concerning the top level tiers (not that I'm guaranteeing it wont happen at any tier) Think of FMV as CGC covering their insurance premiums. If you see your book graded 9.8 then you have a good base for it's value (Ebay used sales/GoCollect/GPA etc) for making an insurance claim with CGC if something happened to the book while in their care (damage in transit back home would be a claim with USPS/UPS/Fed Ex not CGC I believe) Also the tiers have different time delays associated with them and if you'd rather not wait that extra time then it may be worth it to you to go to a higher tier if you think the book(s) was on the boundary
  12. How was it being shipped? Priority/Media Mail ? He must have set it up as a fixed amount rather than enter the weight/size of the package as Ebay would just calculate the postage based on zip code
  13. I'd highly recommend a poster who actually responded to this thread
  14. In addition to the above, you may also want to ask friends/co-workers if they have any experience selling comics as another source of information.
  15. you can always call cgc customer service and ask them. My guess would be it's just boilerplate type statement if you end up getting it back from them with some type of void sticker attached to the bag
  16. Did you plan on selling them on Ebay? As mentioned you need to figure out shipping costs to & back from CGC, any extra service fees like pressing, Ebay/Paypal fees if going that route There's no guarantee there's willing & waiting buyers depending on what the issues are, and the possibility of going up or down in value over time.
  17. My 1st sale on the boards was to a nice fellow in Germany. it took a bit of time to go thru the various Postal zone charts combined with package size and weights to figure out what it would cost. But it wasn't really that difficult. There's some peculiarities about large envelopes if their considered 'rigid'. I saved all that info in a file so I can refer to it w/o needing to dig thru the USPS site again. Something to remember is currency conversion fees when a buyer goes to make payment. That hit my German buyer when going thru Paypal. if you're making a small transaction, it may be OK to simply put the US cash in an envelope, but that wouldn't be prudent for any mid/major transaction

  19. Are they all in the same submission tier? That can cause your order to get split up into 2 (or more) separate orders.
  20. Hi & welcome, you didn't mention if this was a take it or leave it situation or if you have the opportunity to make an offer (either officially thru whatever venue you're looking at or informally like thru an email request) I only did a very quick look and Watchcount reports an Ebay sale of that grade just 4 days ago where it was asking $3750 but settled for $3200 (per a tool on the Flipper tools website for accepted offers) GoCollect free version lists a value at $2900. So those numbers are around the asking price you quoted. You can also look up how many are graded at that level - not a lot though Ebay reports a 8.0 and a pair of 7.5 sell this year and another 7.5 shortly before Xmas. I have no idea on how often a Flash 123 comes up for sale year to year. You can try the auction sites history too to help get an idea. Secondly, no one can answer what it means to you to own it. Is it strictly for the investment potential or a love of the character/story (or what % of each) ? You know your finances and how X hundred dollars one way or the other affects you. You have to combine that with what that issue means to you. I don't see the asking price as outrageous though I would say to try and negotiate if possible. I don't see you as getting "taken for a ride" at that price but I can't answer if that's the best financial deal for you. All I'll say is that you need to be sure you're happy with owning it at the price you can afford vs the disappointment of having to wait X more months. Good luck.
  21. I found his sig inside a Demon 1 I bought back ~1980. Several people look at it incl one of the board members of 'another company'. All thought it looked legit (I wouldn't expect much forging of his sig back in 1980 - of course you never know.....) Here's a look for comparison purposes s
  22. here's a CGC chart about return shipping fees based on # book and value https://www.cgccomics.com/pdf/cgc-return-shipping-fees.pdf
  23. Slabbed books don't automatically mean it was pressed. If it's a valuable enough book with flaws which a press can improve (ie per graders notes), then a 0.5 or 1.0 bump can result in a significant bump in value.
