  1. In honor of the recent announcement of Madame Web in the Spidey movie universe Never would've thought Madame Web would be a spin off character, but what do I know about the movie biz - though I am getting to be a background character at a restaurant scene of a locally filmed indie movie. We have to pretend to eat & talk. I told my wife after 29 years of marriage I should be able to win an Oscar doing that!
  2. yeah I shoulda added a skilled press would take care of that alignment issue and I think it would bump - great minds still thinking alike!
  3. I'd go with 3.5. Woulda said 4.0 w/o the stain at the top of the cover
  4. Best of Luck and everybody should watch "The Santa Clarita Diet" on Netflix! (nothing to do with comics but a hilarious well done show)
  5. Outer space exists because it's afraid to be on the same planet with Chuck Norris. sorry - couldn't resist.......
  6. Are you talking books in generally good shape to begin with? Pressing can damage books so it's important to A) have a quality presser and B) understand the potential risks for each book (especially if they're older/not in the best of shape) C) factor in additional costs vs poss additional FMV gains But for books in better shape to begin with, I assume professional graders going over it with magnifying glasses in the best lighting conditions will pick up on things I'm not gonna always see at my home, so I always had the ones I submitted pressed to try an ensure the best poss grade. That said, I'm sure there's plenty of boardies with enough experience/confidence to make that determination themselves
  7. I think a press would def help as it looks to me like some waviness on the front and back covers. I'd guess you'd be at least 9.4 after a quality press. Pages look white to me
  8. Congrats! Waiting on mine to come back, prob another 2 months. I hope I get ur luck!
  9. Of course it's worth something in a lower grade (Det 880) but most people are looking for very high grade slabbed modern books IMO. So u also have to take demand into account for common lower grade books. U can go to eBay and see how many books at a certain grade sold vs how many didn't. Figure out your total costs for slab/ship/insurance/etc vs what u think u can get for it and determine if the risk is worth ur time & invested money. Oh and good luck in school!
  10. The Overstreet guide does mention stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable for an 8 and that looks like a date However a scan/pic out of the bag, plus the back cover should be the minimum presented, plus a pic of an inside page and closeups of any problem areas you may be concerned about.. That gives you the best chance of several responses. Good Luck!
  11. Something seems a bit off with the color of the photo That's a really long thin color breaking crease on the right along with the wear on the spine, and poss some discoloration on the top/bottom edges of the back but it's not a clear shot of it So the question to me is how much does that crease knock it down? I could be totally off, but I'll say 5.5 due to the crease
  12. I thought I replied to this but I guess I didn't hot the submit button Looks a grade better than ur other one so I'll say 7.0-7.5
  13. I'd guess 6.5-7.0 due to those tics/creases by the upper front spine. I picked mine up ages ago thumbing thru the dollar bins at the local LCS. When I brought it home to read I found it had a Kirby sign con the bottom of the splash page. I assume no one was practicing their Kirby forgery skills back around 1980. If they were, they did a good job.
  14. I'd think the cost of a Neal sig (and I believe he charges more if you're submitting it to CGC) plus the pressing/SS grading fee wouldn't leave much room for profit in this condition if you're looking to sell it. Now if you just want a Neal Adams sig for your own personal satisfaction (and I'm a big Neal fan - if I can ever get to a con where he's at , I'd love to get my Sup vs Ali signed) then by all means
  15. I dunno if it matters. That's just 1 private company's opinion. i do see that current CGC slabs for #49 just make mention of the appearances of Demon, Phantom Stranger etc Maybe that's a nod to the issue being a precursor to officially forming a group.
  16. If your concern is monetary value, the market will determine that so there is no one here who can settle it. They weren't called JLD in Swamp Thing , just all working together.
  17. I'd throw out a stab at 6.0-6.5 with the LLC crease, several small spine tics, top left corner crease and some wear along the top edge looks nice!
  18. One day I will understand what this thread is about. That day is not today....
  19. Substitute Ebay for Ebay/GoCollect, 4 months for 1 month, and 5 years for 1 year and i do the same exact thing
  20. Welcome you can always looks at sold Ebay listings for specific issues. There's other websites, such as Watchcount/Dreckcheck etc, which also provide Ebay sold items data There are pay services like GPA (comics.gpaanalysis.com) or GoCollect (comics.gocollect.com - also has some free data) and , of course, the Overstreet Price Guide We have a forum here to get grade estimates of books from other boardies based on pics you provide (the Buddy Spare A Grade forum) I hope you enjoy characterizing & appraising them as much as collecting/reading them!
  21. I consider 1963 and newer 'modern' Otherwise I'd have to consider myself old....
