I just wished they would be approximately accurate with their estimates. I submitted back in early October. I thought late March at that point.

It was a "dry run" for my brother in law who has a FF run of 1-50. I've already talked to him about selling them w/o grading.

Why?  Some of them would be submitted in the Walkthru tier and some in the other upper tiers so you won't have that eternity wait you do with Economy

Quick question for you folks in the know... is it safe to press comics with tanning at the fringes?  Heavy tanning?  With browning?  At what level of discoloration would you eliminate a book as a pressing candidate?

are you asking if a press would damage the pages due to the coloration? As far as I know it wouldn't. Also, AFAIK a press wouldn't affect the page coloration (although if dirty a clean certainly could help)

If you have brittle pages you may be taking a risk.

is it sending a message to CGC that a person will accept the lower grade and therefore makes it easier for the grader not to give a 9.8

That is something you don't have to worry about.

As to what grade should you prescreen for - is your purpose to sell these?  if so then you'd have to figure out what is the lowest grade that gives you an acceptable amount of profit.  If you're not already aware of it, you could post some of them on the "Spare A Grade" forum to get an idea if there's flaws you're not picking up on

I'm not going to attempt to pinpoint what qualifies as huge; however, I will note that nearly every issue in your specified range has at least 20 CGC-certified specimens.  For a 1950s Atomic Age specialist, 20 would indeed be a huge number.  For a Bronze Age Marvel enthusiast, 20 is probably closer to one week's worth of submissions.

Let's focus on cost relative to value.  Assuming you'd like to get your books back from CGC before you hit retirement age, you'll want to use their Fast Track (FT) service.  Since you have pre-1975 issues, plan on spending $45/book for the press, and another $50/book for certification.  Now add on the per book cost of shipping, return shipping, and insurance.  If my math is correct, you're looking at a minimum cost of $100/book.  I'm confident you have access to a current Overstreet Price Guide, so I'll simply ask this: what increase in value do you expect to get for your $100+ per book outlay?

Now, restore my faith in humanity by admitting that you really didn't need our help.  :foryou:  :hi:

since these are curr graded then the total cost basis per book would also include the original slabbing/shipping costs

  5. On the days when I expected expected a new issue of NTT to be out, I remember picking up speed on my bike as I approached my LCS

When I was a little younger, I'd be beyond  thrilled to find Neal Adams work in the dollar bins.  Collecting NTT/WW as they came out gave me that same feeling.

    RIP gentlemen.

Two separate things really. The first is saying they won't determine FMV/insurance for you while you possess the book (i.e. "Hey CGC, what tier should I submit under?"). The second takes place after the book is already submitted when CGC actually has it in hand.

I agree that they should format that paragraph better.

In the case where something happens to the book after CGC upcharges you & before they ship it then does the FMV become the value associated with the new tier or would it still be what you entered on the submission form.    I would imagine the former since you're now paying for that tier

Netflix needs to ditch releasing these seasons all at once. Yes it is nice to binge it but there’s something to be said for a drip-feed where you get to look forward to an episode each week.

I binged Daredevil when I first got Netflix but by then either all 3 seasons were out or 2 of them were so I had a lot to go thru.

But nowadays I like spreading them out among all the shows I watch. Gives me time to absorb them, listen to podcasts on the episode etc before moving on to the next one

Plus some shows I watch with the Mrs who's def not into binging.

A big, "hell no" to the bolded question.

if you go the inheritance route and say you're in a state which requires some level of tax. So you have a copy of the estate tax form for a record and whatever info was used to establish a FMV.  Do  you know if that situation allows for a loss to be claimed?

Yes, this is correct. The FMV of an asset is based on the date of death for the inheritor.  BUT it's a double edged sword.  People focus on FEDERAL inheritance tax, but forget that six states have (a much lower threshold) inheritance tax.  So while your beneficiaries escape Federal tax on 11 or so million, depending on what state your estate is in, this stepped up FMV could hurt them MORE there.  So in NJ (where I live) spouse and children are exempt from inheritance tax, but brothers and sisters have to pay tax on more than $25,000 inherited.  So if your $200,000 collection is split equally amongst a brother, a sister and your 2 children, your two kids get $50,000 tax free, while your brother and sister get $25,000 tax free and then pay 11% on the next $25,000.

right.  I'm in PA which has a 4.5% inheritance tax for direct heirs (12% siblings ; 15% other)  I work in Jersey so I'm always telling the older folks they should move to PA for retirement. 4.5% vs 28% makes it worth it  if I want to pass them along to the kids

Who is this Steven Grant guy?  All I knew before this episode is that Moon Knight's real name is Mark Spectre.  I'm sure the show will explain it and am pretty sure that they didn't do that this episode, but that's a detail I don't mind having spoiled for me from the comics, assuming Steven Grant is there as well.  Was that identity always a part of the character, or is it a more recent revision?

He's one of his personas as seen on the cover of Moon Knight #1 (for ex)  On that cover he's the one in the tux

Would love to speak to a mod about this but want to get ahead of the situation- having an issue with a seller who got mad at me (or is clearly unstable) and sent me an empty box for a book worth several thousand dollars. He knew exactly what he was doing. It's currently under review by eBay but the situation is obviously distressing, and no one wants to be doxxed the other way around- the seller clearly knows that me claiming I got an empty box looks like I'm trying to scam *him*, and is trying to work it. I got a message from someone who wanted to buy one of my items off of eBay who happens to live in the exact same city as him, so could use any and all advice on how to protect myself. Thank you.

Ugh.  Does the label on that empty indicate the weight of the package? Obviously  if it shows just the weight of the box then you have your proof of what he did.
