  1. Had to be in early at work yesterday and stay late so I took a break later afternoon and caught a showing.

I absolutely loved it.   The Riddler's costume was a little strange but he was a great character.   I'm glad this didn't have a streaming release as then I would've watched it at home and not gotten the same sound quality as the theater had.    It certainly wasn't a 'Bruce Wayne' film but that didn't impact my viewing experience.

I agree that the TATs are causing issues with things like this. Length of memberships is becoming an issue as well, and forget paying by check if the check is dated when you mail it.

And yet TATs increased again today, something like 30 more days for both modern and economy. 20 or so for standard as well.

amazing - pressing is 250 working days (Econ or Modern)  and grading is 220 or 146 for those tiers (all non fast track)

470 working days max - geez 2 years is ~520 working days

@MattTheDuck so buying one an doing it myself it a really bad idea I take it ...even for books I just want to make look nicer in my personal collecion? @csaag not sure if this is a stupid question or even if you know but does that mean that they press in their UK office or does that go to the U.S for that? thanks to both !

no idea - I just saw the link.  I'd day try calling that office, or there's an 'Ask Cgc' forum where you could posts question(s)

@revat is it only worth getting things pressed by CGC ? the reason I ask is some books I wont want to submit  for grading and assumed there may be better local options (companies/shops etc) where i could get it done quicker and cheaper...I am also based in London U.K so I assume its even longer for me when it comes to submitting books for grading and getting them back ! ha (bit thats another story)

    there's a London CGC office

@csaag @theCapraAegagrus my main reason would be to press books ad submit to CGC and also to press ones i like so they look fresher in my collection. What is the rough cost for pressing a book (im sure it varies on the book)....but roughly

    Thanks

here's that thread I mentioned where someone posted about learning to press

CCS prices are found from the links at the CGC home page

    No.

A CBCS yellow label and a CGC yellow label are very different things.

A CBCS yellow label means that somebody at CBCS thinks a signature is authentic.

A yellow CGC label means that witnesses from CGC actually watched the comic being signed by the person. CGC offers a significantly higher level of certainty that the signature is authentic. So a CGC yellow label is not at all the same as a CBCS yellow label.

I thought they offer both witnessed and authentication services

So have you guys made away like a bandit in the night value wise!? I know even in the 90's before there was CGC or anything you could get Hulk 181 for $300-700, ASM 300 were $20 books, X-men 1 1963 could be found for just a few thousand. Being a kid I had no chance at the big ones but if I had a job and was still into it I would be a wealthy person today.

Started collecting in the late 70's thru 1990 or so.  At first from a spinner rack in the back of a pharmacy then at at LCS soon after when one finally opened near me.    Originally mostly DC but then I soon started with Spiderman/Xmen/Thor/FF/DD

I always jealousy eyed the key books hanging on the wall but didn't buy them with the thought of getting rich one day as

    1) who knew they could be worth so much.  Sure I saw FF 1/AF15/etc in the glass case but never imagined others would get the prices you see today.

    2) Where would I sell them anyway? Ebay wasn't around then.

    3) I didn't have much money at all anyway

So the ones I did buy were limited to $20 or so at a time and I just bought the ones I really liked and wanted to have regardless of condition.

One of the happiest moments of my collecting life was when I was rifling thru the back issue bins and found a poor copy of GL 76 for a buck or two.  I felt like I hit the lottery.

  8. How are you arriving at a $5k valuation?  Valuation implies a good idea of the condition, but if you're asking how to know when to press books then it sounds like you need some help in that area.

Read the sticky in the Buddy  Can You Spare a Grade Forum.  If you have access to a scanner, take scans of the front & back covers (or pics if you don't have one) and up close pics of the corners (or zoom the scans)  & the book an an angle.  Members can then give you estimates on the grade and whether a press could help.  I usually say the FMV you would give CGC is the replacement cost for your raw book as is rather than the pressed/graded book.  If you overestimate the FMV and the resultant grade would've fit a lower tier then CGC will not refund you any more.   Conversely CGC may or may not upcharge you.  Of course it will take longer to get your book back using a lower tier

As far as your example, you would also need to add in shipping costs in addition to thoe 3% walkthru chargers (if you stick with 5k FMV)

You can see update sshipping fees under the 'News' section from the home page

  9. I saw this the other night streaming it from HBO.  I'd give it a B-

I appreciate the 'movie wthin a movie' idea but that concept alone wasn't enough to make the film stand out.    The 2nd half becomes a standard fight & rescue movie.  They didn't have the same fight choreographer as before and it showed.  As said in the review Kav posted, Keanu Reeves in the original was the definition of 'cool'.  He's 'cool' in the John Wick movies.

He's not 'cool' here.  He looks confused for much of the movie - even after the initial part where he's supp to be confused. For that matter he looks like he just came off the set of John Wick.  They could've tried to make him look a bit different.  He kept repeating that same 'extended hands force' maneuver way too much.

The motorcycle chase thru the city has a nice bit which I won't spoil here

I agree 1000% pct that they should've gotten Hugo Weaving back.  It would've been worth the wait.

Hello, I am new to the whole grading & authenticating process of getting comic books ready to sell. First, I would like to know how one is supposed to accurately determine the "Max Value" of the a particular book before it is graded? Second, the lowest tier costs minimum $60 for 1 comic book. is it even worth grading anything valued less than $200? Any information that could help me grade some of my books cheaply & efficiently would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi & Welcome!

Think of FMV as insurance if something were to happen to your book(s) while in posession by CGC (& not any shipping company)

One way to think about it is what would it cost you to find a raw book in similar condition  to replace it.  You can make use of the "Buddy Can You Spare a Grade" forum where forum members will give you their estimates of the condition based on pics you upload.   If you want to try that then read the sticky post in that forum

Here's a link to CGC FMV info

    https://www.cgccomics.com/submit/declared-value-policy/

Once you get an idea of the condition of the books you'd like to submit, then you can look for estimates of value from the Overstreet guide, Ebay or other websites (GoCollect, comicspriceguide) etc

I'd suggest that you try to group books by the same submission tier as that will spread out your return shipping cost back to you.   You can ship everything together to CGC

All that will help you figure out your cost per book and then based on value for an estimated grade you can decide if it's worth your time & money.  Of course books can always increase in value in the upcoming years (or decrease).  Whether you're planning on selling them ASAP or holding for a long period also factors into it.

It's a lot easier just collecting and reading them, eh?

    Merry Christmas too!

PS it's pretty normal that the same set of questions get asked a lot over time.  There's a ton of knowledge on these boards so experiment with the search function too.
