  1. So it seems the consensus is that the increase in value (what it would sell for) that grading brings might not be enough to offset the cost of grading? In my mind if it costs $40 to grade and increases value by less than $80 it's not worth it. On a similar note, it blows my mind how I see cgc slabs sell for less than $30. Why bother slabbing something that isn't worth more than that?
  2. Oh they weren't my figs. I'm fairly confident mine are real since I bought them in the 90's. The repros I saw were at a small show. The dealer told me they were repro cards. I couldn't tell if they were real or not, which makes me wonder how confident people can be buying ungraded moc's (like mine). I worry about the future value of my legit moc's. Maybe I should sell them sooner rather than later.
  3. Thanks comicwiz and F is for Fake! I looked at the prices for grading vintage figs, it looks like the cheapest afa price for vintage figs is $40! Yikes . I think I'll just do as you suggested and get some acrylic cases. My concern is will they be difficult to sell if I ever need to (mostly I have ROTJ carded figs and one GI Joe Hawk)? I was at a small local comic convention and there were some vintage carded figs there, I asked the dealer about them and he said they were repro cards. I couldn't tell the difference . I remember that repro weapons were an issue back when I was still buying toys. With 3d printers how long will it be until entire figures are faked? Also, as a side note, when I tried to ebay some of my star wars stuff a while ago they weren't going for much. Have the new movies improved the market?
  4. Hi everybody. I've been away from action figure collecting for ten years or so. Lately I've been wondering about grading some of my vintage carded figs. Is figure grading still a good investment (like cgc) or if it has fallen out of favor with modern collectors? If it's still a good idea what company do you guys use? Is AFA still the standard? Thanks for your help
  5. Is Voldemort in the same league as PGX? I had heard they were legitimate.
  6. It’s under the upc, it’s pretty small. I never noticed it before it was graded.
  7. Yes it’s a can’t buy can’t sell book (clever 🙂). Do you think I might get an upgrade going to cgc?
  8. I recently had my star wars 1 graded at another company who must not be named. It came back as 8.0. But when I compare it to other 8.0’s it looks nicer to me. The graders notes say: spine stress breaks color, foxing top back cover, tinytr bottom left front cover. Here’s some pics. I think 8.0 is reasonable but when I look at other 8.0’s they look worse imo. For example these from ebay. To me their spines and corners look worse. Am I being too lenient on my book? Do you think mine was graded correctly? (I hope you can zoom in on these pics, I can post more if any of you want me to). Thanks for taking the time to look at my post 🙂
  9. Wow! I didn’t know there was anything special about that issue. For some reason 25 and 26 are way more expensive than the surrounding issues. I just looked at gocollect, issue 26 is $775 for 9.8 and $60 for 9.6! That’s crazy!?!
  10. It’s funny, when I started buying comics as a kid in 1984 (before I ever saw a monthly price guide) ads like this are how I knew what different comics were “worth”
  11. What happens if you need to sell your share? Do you have to find another buyer? Is there a designated time that the book will be sold?
  12. Very nice copy! I remember seeing this on the comic rack at eckerds when I was in 6th grade and thinking that’s the coolest cover ever.
  13. Nice! Looks pretty good for a 5 🙂. Do you guys think Iron Man will gradually get a little less expensive now that his part in the movies is over? Also I just now noticed for the first time that Dr Strange and Nick Fury don’t have the premiere issue bubble.
  14. Yeah x-men 94 and giant sized 1 cost more than anything else on the page. Oh, to have a time machine... Why does star wars 4 cost more than 2 or 3?
  15. Are there any rare newsstands in the copper age? I thought they were pretty evenly distributed. I can see how getting them in 9.8 would be hard.
  16. I kind of wish I had picked up these sets when they were in stores. I was buying the 25th anniversary figures like a madman but I didn’t get most of the comic packs (except for the scrap iron one, had to get scrap iron 🙂). Why would cgc not grade these?
  17. I loved the video game and D&D ads too! My favorite ads were the nes ones, like this metal gear ad that shows the gear... Let’s not forget Fabio! 😂
  18. They made a lot of those comic themed figure multipacks through at least 2007 when they were doing the 25th anniversary line. I have a few, I may have to open them up and look at the comics. I wonder what the print runs are on those? Are they collectible as comics?
  19. I don’t know where different sites get their info but it seems to me that ebay sold prices must be the most updated and accurate because those are the prices people are actually paying. There are weird outlier auctions that may be misleading, especially on books that aren’t sold very often, but if you’re able to see enough sold items you should be able to get a good idea. In my very limited experience ebay is cheaper on average than local and online comic stores.
  20. Wow, I didn’t know that much spider-man 1 stuff existed
  21. What sites are you looking at? Can you give examples?
