How do you like the 25 book pre screen process? I would love to hear peoples experiences with that type of submission.

I like it so far..I've had a 9.8 and a 9.0 prescreen and fared pretty well..I have another 150 books in waiting at 9.8 ...so we will see how those do. The first two were Modern ST and only took about 6 weeks

All good, I am not fussed about a few extra days since it is well ahead of the TATs anyway. No huge rush on my end to get the books.

The worst part for me about waiting in this stage is I get super curious to see how I did, and so I am continually checking the page to see if the grades are listed. My F5 key takes a big beating.

Right?... the rush of seeing 'Shipped' ..just so you can see your grades

The moderns are continuing to move faster than the promised TATs, kudos to all of the hard work from the CGC staff that makes this possible!

    25 modern pre-screens (9.8) marked as SFG on July 19 2022, moved to G/E/I today Aug 29 2022.

I tried a new process where I double checked submissions one last time before shipping out and ended up filtering out books on my own. I am interested to see if this makes a difference in my hit rate.

My MFT has sat in GEI for past seven days

  4. I am giving She Hulk a chance but really, it's so juvenile and complacent...like watching paint drip on a wall...I recently watched Jane The Virgin and the writing and plot twists are way beyond anything I have seen MCU anything develop...granted, it's a soap opera but still, makes me wonder about the restrictions that are placed on the character development in MCU shows...for god's sake...what is more soap opary than a comic book narrative??? why are these producers so afraid of making a great show...Firefly killed it for everyone...Netflix came close with their shows...but even they were killed

MCS has always been ultra liberal with regards to notating scuffs on slabs, in an effort to reduce potential returns. When I send in slabs for consignment I just assume the listing will mention scuffs, and I assume buyers have caught on to that as well, basically ignoring the listing notes and instead looking at the scans to make their buying decisions.

I just got notice of 12 slabs sent to MCS (slabbed by CGC last month) ...No Notable issues with slabs..maybe it just depends on the person processing the order

Okay, that makes me feel better..thanks for responding

The problem is that you want to slab high school reproductions of classic comics as authentic comics :makepoint:

no, not want...I said, I don't care if they do..but we are going around in circles..jumping off now

I'm no lawyer, but my step-daughter is: I do know that vague, open to interpretation and never admit to anything is pretty much how she recommends everyone to roll. Which is probably why everyone is up in arms over CGC's response - and why I think there will never be another one.

for sure..and you clued in on the most important ...'everyone'

I think CGC simply thought they could get away with it and no one would notice. How many large corporations have cratered themselves because they got caught making one mistake? None - but plenty of large corporations made a lot of mistakes no one noticed, finally leading to the one that was caught by the public and that is what cratered them.

There are so many scenarios that play out here, so many people being implicated, conspiracies, etc - for me, the simple truth and human nature element of "doing something stupid because you think no one is looking" in my opinion, is likely the culprit here.

"Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth."

Yeah, that does seem to be a common occurrence these days or because of social media we just hear about it more

So , I am married to an artist and I went to art school for a year, a conservatory...they tackled these questions of what is 'authentic'...mostly because of copyright laws... things like , can you take a picture of art, and alter the picture in some way  and it be authentic or can you reproduce the art piece but change it in some way , can that be authentic? You circling a word does nothing to define what is authentic..why do you think CGC chose that word???? it's vague and open to interpretation

Because the "conflict" is that it goes against prior grading precedent.  Again, in the past, comics altered to this degree were given a grade designation of NG.

@theCapraAegagrus I see what you mean now.

Okay, I understand using precedent ( I apologize for being ignorant of this fact)..I suppose if CGC wants to change their policy, then there will be growing pains associated with this (a lot of backlash, change does that).....it still doesn't diminish the quality of my CGC 4.5 on my ASM 14 or its value

Now , maybe if one of my prescreens came back a 9.9 ?

Simple statistical analysis for the latter.

As per the former, I'll clarify as much as I can: CGC is the leading 'authority' on third-party grading for comic books. They knew that they had counterfeit comic books in their possession (meaning: not approved by Marvel [who owns the IP]). They graded said counterfeit comic books under the Universal label in some sort of deal with Black Flag and Clayton Crain. This is a classic "conflict of interest", because the comic book is not authentic, and the public is supposed to be able to trust CGC's judgment.

Hopefully that brings you up to speed.

well, you would have to take an extensive poll to apply a statistical application (probably a gaussian distribution and adjust for major bias, it would be difficult given the amount of feedback bias exhibited on this thread), and one of the raw only comic collecting community too (which would help with bias)...as well as those who don't have anything to do with these boards. My sense is that you used 99.9% the way people use the word 'most'..but still without any substantial evidence/data and more as anecdotally

as per the latter...the problem I see with your argument is that CGC is a grading company, they hand out grades and hence, you are trusting 'their grade' ..whether or not they choose to grade a 'counterfeit' or non authentic (BTW, these terms are subject to bias too) has no bearing on the grade of a say,  an Amazing Spiderman 14 with no acetate cover . The only thing that is called into question is what they choose to grade.  Now, I understand the problem with the 9.9, 10.0 grading..considering how cincy they are with these grades. But if they wanted to start grading high school reproductions of classic comics and put them in a slab,  I still don't see the conflict of interest.

But to be clear, I also don't understand why CGC would want to expose themselves to this aggravation ...it's an extremely niche component..and by doing this service it still has no effect on their bottom line (financially)

and also, I don't understand the appeal of acetate covers

Are you really saying that you don't understand why 99.9% of the comic book collecting community has a problem with the leading third-party grading company telling consumers that it's "authentic" to add an acetate cover with 2 additional staples and call it a "variant" without the publisher's consent...?

pretty much...I also don't understand how you came up with 99.9 %

  14. From my last three modern fast track submissions: sent to MCS for auctions...12 books all have scuffing on outer case as well as inner case and one has debris inside (as noted by MCS)...I have sent over 100 CGC graded slabs to MCS..sure, scuffs every now and then..but all of these recent ones ?  Submissions were all from June  and on. The ones I send off to MCS I just check for obvious damage and put back in the plastic sleeve and back into the same box from CGC. I have 20 plus more new slabs waiting to be checked into MCS for auction, IDK, I hope this isn't a long term trend with CGC..anyone else noticing this?

    +1

She's flawless, especially compared to Bruce. She can already do it all. Where is any character growth supposed to come from- The one-night stand we see in the trailers?

Should character growth even be expected?

I did not get that she was flawless (not enough information)...all I got was that she wont have the same trials and tribulations as Bruce and therefore had nothing to learn from Bruce...I think the creators wanted to lay the foundation that this character was going to be different than The Hulk and wanted to do it very quickly..everything else is just pure speculation. The first episode seemed more like a bait and hook episode..make it light and soft, throw in a bunch of humor.. maybe she goes darker , more complicated...maybe her self assuredness is knocked down quite a bit and she grows from that. There is a lot they can do...but who knows, it's Disney..could turn out to be crap

oh this is really bad....major screw up..probably would be the worst I have ever seen

Hopefully, they catch it before it leaves the building

Thanks @Ed Hanes, do you remember when your shipment was delivered to CGC.  My ME was delivered on the 16th and hasn't been received yet.  I'm wondering when I should get concerned.

it was delivered two days before it was marked received August 8

Did you mark ME on the box?

not that it matters, they are opening boxes pretty quick..I would email them
