  1. I collect football cards as a side hobby. I get them slabbed and sig verified by Beckett, who own CBCS. I assume they use the same methodology being one company - I’ve been to their home office in Dallas and since both are done side by side I assume they follow similar standards. Anyway, I’ve submitted say 5 Ezekiel Elliot’s and gotten back 4 verified and 1 rejected because the auto was too poor, illegible, suspicious in some way, etc. So while I’m not a fan of CBCS for several reasons, I believe they do put effort into verification and don’t just slap “verified” labels on these unwitnessed signatures willy nilly
  2. White means color breaking - my understanding is pressing can’t help that. Your book looks pretty minty but I had a book with a couple little spine ticks that got busted down to 9.4 so I’d guess 9.4-9.6 depending if the grader had a good lunch.
  3. Gonna say 4. With a press, the spine will get fixed but not all the color breaks and dings so I don’t see that improving it more than .5 grade
  4. I collect variations of Romita’s classic “Face it Tiger, you hit the jackpot” panel done with two different characters. A few of the artists have gotten a little naughty with it haha I wanted to start a jungle versions theme - think Savage Land Rogue but with different heroes - but at the last con the couple artists I pitched it too just looked at me all confused (“You want Supergirl in a jungle?”) and passed. Maybe if I find someone good at drawing jungle women to start it off I can show others.
  5. All this because people with poor taste made that crappy Venom movie a success. I hope they’re happy now. So much for having good Spidey movies anymore.
  6. 4.5-5.5. Even though there’s many defects that’d probably hammer it on a technical grade, it really presents very beautifully!
  7. Lol “incredibly high grade” Gotta love the EBay hustle Looks like a 7.5 to me.
  8. There was an awesome indy comic that came out like 15-20 years ago that had this exact same idea - “Elvis Must Die!”
  9. In mint it’s worth about $3 so in that condition it looks like you paid about what it’s worth
  10. 5.5-6 as is. I’m not sure what pressing all entails but if they can clean up some of that dirt and press out those interior page folds you might max it out around a 7.
  11. I can’t imagine that’d get below a 7 unless there’s stuff we can’t pick up in pics
  12. We have to be careful about viewing innocent phrases through the prism of modern language. There’s the famous Joker story where he talks about “boners.” In the 40s, a boner was just a gaffe, a mistake, but in modern slang it’s meaning is quite different. There was no innuendo by the writer. I dunno what year that cover is but I’m fairly sure using “sandwich” as sexual slang is a pretty new phenomenon. Now the bondage scenes and the infamous “headlights” covers, those guys knew exactly what they were doing
  13. DC actually thinks shops are gonna destroy copies and not immediately bag them and slap a $30 price tag on them? Have they ever met a retailer?
  14. Man, the eBay values on that are all over the place. Your copy looks really nice! According to CGC stats most graded copies of this are 7-7.5 which in my amateur opinion yours looks about that. I assume a press would mostly fix those dents in the back so I wouldn’t mind rolling the dice to try for a higher grade although I’m not sure it’d be much of a return on investment if your plan is to sell it.
  15. I’ve been having the opposite problem. I’ve been lead bid for 3 comics in the past month and just as it neared the last day, the seller ended the auction! It really blows that eBay allows this. I’m almost ready to start looking other places, maybe even post here, bc EBay is just full of too many goofs.
  16. Because $$$$. Netflix throws stupid cash around looking for the next GOT. DC’s service is very likely operating at a loss.
  17. My Orlando Megacon haul just arrived! Dropped off 5 books at the end of show 5/19. All Signature Series Modern. Received 6/1 - Scheduled for grading 6/20 - Finalized/Shipped 6/28
  18. Michael J Fox was $175 for small items at Megacon. No offense to GOT fans but Jon Snow costing more than Marty McFly just don’t seem right
  19. Hello everyone. Longtime lurker, first time poster. I’ve been reading comics since the late 70s but just recently got interested in having some of my books slabbed. I go to 3-4 cons every year and after seeing CGC’s ubiquitous booth (hard to miss lol), I got to asking questions which led to interest which led to making my first submission(s) at the last con. Right now I’m concentrating on SS books since with the price of autos these days - I’ve also been going to cons since the late 80s and catch myself thinking, “back in my day...” too often for comfort haha - it’s nice to have everything capped and verified. Plus it just looks nicer on display! Anyway, I probably will mostly lurk but I thought might as well get that first post out the way.
