  1. A lot of worry about the execution. But excited for some focus on Moon Knight. The last couple runs were well written and now we should get some more.
  2. As a MK fan I'm biased, Too the uninitiated I say sure Moon Knight is like Batman, if Batman had 1/10 the money and was 10 times crazier. Even that is disingenuous. Moon Knight shares almost no character traits with Batman. Batman has issues he needs to work through Moon Knight is insane. Bats to Iron Man is a more realistic comparison but that for another thread. Moonie lacks the moral clarity of Batman and does not suffer from a boy scout complex. There is nothing metaphysical to Batman or his powers, whereas Moon Knight believes himself to be the conduit of an Egyptian God with evidence to back up this claim. Moon Knight made his small fortune by killing people as a mercenary. His struggles with DID/ MPD allow for his character development to go into a plethora of directions including the fact that there are four distinct characters within Moon Knight's being (Marc Spector, Jake Lockley, Steven Grant, and Moon Knight) One of which is a homicidal maniac another a normie financeer. He has no qualms about killing and Jake even enjoys dismembering and keeping limbs of vanquished foes. When fights are going south and Jake takes over things get fun. I'm a Batman fan as well and think he is by far the best of the core DC/ JLA characters. I can see the surface comparison but with any amount of digging one can see these characters are drastically different. A lot of people don't get Moon Knight and that's fine "It's not for you"
  3. I'm a Huge Moon Knight fan, and have nearly every Moon Knight book. He seems to have a cult like following of which I am a devoted acolyte. Some of his more recent runs have been wonderfully written such as the Lemire run. I enjoyed the Bemis run as well. The recent 9.8 heritage auction at $50K seems to be pushing the price of 32 into the stratosphere in all grades. I would love to know the print run on the book as it seems to be legitimately rare at this point. I had plans to upgrade my 4.0 copy to a 7.5 ... I'll be lucky if I can afford a 6.0 by the time I get to the planned upgrade.
  4. Yayyy new divisive topic to burn the forums to the ground. For a comic book forum housed by the company that slabs books, there seems to be a pretty large crowd that has a disdain for graded books. Not saying this your stance Catman I'm just getting the fire started. I have been an avid reader of comic books since the time I was able to read. I have 2000 comics about 20 of which are slabbed (1%) I would dare to venture that the vast majority of people who enjoy owning slabbed books also enjoy reading comics hence the fixation. I have have enjoyed most of my favorite story arcs in trade paperback form and own the keys within those runs in single issue form example Alan Moore's Swamp Thing. I love owning a piece of comic book history and have the collecting "sickness" like many here do. This sickness pushes me to own more NM goodness and then treat it like a dragon does his gold. This hobby lends itself to many different styles of collecting, different people enjoy doing it in different ways.
  5. Did not know that would be possible....
  6. Yeah there is a UV protector on the slab very easily put on and taken off without leaving any residue . ... The downside is that the bubbles can be a real B--- to get out unless perfectly trimmed and applied.
  7. Lol finally the "Shut up Nancy your book is fine answer" ...which is the answer I was looking for, as this is where I was leaning but the trolls in my mind kept pointing at the little piece of plastic and laughing. I kept telling the trolls to shut up but I needed the internets help.
  8. Put up the CGC Bat Signal!!!!
  9. That would drive me more completely insane!
  10. Loving the responses It looks like a piece of mylar when I get up on it. So it's quite flat but quite sharp. Irrational fear of losing items in the mail along with not wanting to wait months to get it back are keeping me from pulling the trigger on the Re-Slab. As stated by other posters it's already been this way for years as it is an old slab with no visible damage ... Yet. I'm sure I will kick myself if it does.
  11. Here it is 8.0 Swamp Thing #1 beautiful book couldn't be happier with it. Except for this: There is a sharp piece of plastic debris under the encapsulation. It doesn't move making me think it isn't a going to damage the book but it is driving my comic book based OCD up the wall. If this were your book would you get it re-slabbed?
  12. Worthy adversaries .... I dream of open warfare with Ants the size of dogs ... Large dogs... Mmmmm Chaos
  13. Speaking of Friday ..... It's here .... What topic shall start the flame war this evening.....
  14. Holy "Hot Take" Batman Tell em how you really feel.
  15. EXHIBIT A: As a Moonie Looney I think this is a cool book but manufactured rarity disgusts me and the price tag is preposterous. And ummmmm I'll take 7.5 WBN 32 over this every time over and over... but that's obvious. Still a cool book, I enjoyed the Bemis run alot..... But nooo just no.
  16. Ugh as much as it has to p!$$ you off you got to laugh. These things come with the territory in this hobby and I know I have learned from getting burned (literally). I make sure to check everything now before buying and try to stick to slabs for any big keys.
  17. I second this.... Was gonna flat out suggest it but figured someone had said before I got here. I've gone to Midtown when the LCS has sold out of something I was looking for and never been disappointed.
  18. I'm a huge Thanos Fan and was ecstatic when the series was announced with Lemire writing it. Loved his story arc which ends at issue 12. Was equally as happy when the following arc was announced with Cates. Lemire's arc was clean and concise. I would discuss why I find this incarnation of Thanos so interesting, but that's for another thread as I don't want to spoil. Cates took it up a big notch. Had so much Cosmic firepower. So much of the fanfare is focused on Cosmic Ghost Rider but Norrin Radd was on another level of badass ... Thought his place in the arc always top notch. Overall a couple of the better towards best writers currently working in the medium doing a Thanos run some real justice.
  19. McFarlane capes on Batman are excellent.
  20. She authored a book recently titled "She Could Fly". I read the 1st issue, very outside of the box and well written.
  21. Reading Vertigo Titles (V for Vendetta, Watchmen, Swamp Thing, Sandman.) was definitely a pivotal moment in my comic reading evolution. I collected Marvel moderns in the early 90's as a kid (ASM, Ghost Rider, Silver Surfer.) Had slowed down heading into my teens until in high school a buddy of mine tossed his copy of V for Vendetta at me just saying "read this." Flew through it, then Watchmen ... Then all of Swamp Thing (Most likely my favorite of the bunch), Read a Chunk of Sandman and various other titles. Vertigo relit the comic reading and collecting fire for me and showed me how much could be done within the medium. Obviously a huge Alan Moore Fan...
  22. Appreciate the suggestions. Made the thread to discuss all display methods showing people all the options. Always liked the idea of oversized prints. Also wanted discuss these showcases because as a product they are the top of the line but still leave me wanting in some areas... Specifically book fit. I'm keeping all my most NM books in top-loaders in boxes. I'm keeping some mid grade keys keys in the Showcases for display along with my high grade ASM 300 and 4.0ish WBN 32 because they are books I aspired to get and like seeing them daily. I trimed the boards and got the best fit possible for both of those as they are important to me and don't want to incur damage from displaying.
