  1. Some of the villains are reimagined from the Charlton characters. The Marionette and The Mime are based off of Punch and Jewel. Haven't read Doomsday Clock yet.... I'm sure Moore finds it to be highly heretical. I'll give it a shot at some point I have the first couple issues.
  2. There seems to be some debate around pressing. Personally I don't see pressing as resto. If you place a book with a spine roll in between to heavy books to lessen the roll it's not restored. I see machine pressing as a more extreme version of the same thing. Disassembly and replacing of the staples seems like resto to me but what do I know? (Not much)If that is how it has been done in the GA world forever so be it, after all who doesn't like clean staples. It does seem like a lot of risk to the book, risk I would never take personally. I have all the respect in the world for the GA community. I lurk in their sales threads and enjoy watching the pieces of history that flow through. I will hopefully someday have a couple GA treasures for my collection. I'd love to read the preeminent thread on the pressing debate if anyone has a link to thread handy.
  3. While I was lurking in the GA sales threads peeping on cool books I can't afford. I saw what is most likely the most expensive book with Collectors Item on the cover. There is a golden age pre code crime book with a murderer taking a severed hand as a souvenir. The cover says collectors item. I can't remember what the book was but I would assume that is the most valuable book with collectors item on the cover. Somebody hunt it down.
  4. That's true. My flawed memory is telling me that DC didn't want Moore to muddy up those actual characters with his gritty storyline. Love me some Alan Moore.
  5. I was born in '89, what I would give to go back and scoop up all of those up and then some.
  6. Appreciate the reply Brotha, it would be cool if Virus pans out. There is something I like about the character design. I'll have to check out the current Thor run.
  7. Agreed I knew I was missing a ton of stuff I loved which is why I asked. Indy stuff has been the best place for new and original story telling in the medium. Personally I have always loved The Maxx. If you haven't read this give it a shot. Side note there was a ton of great stuff in the 80's. I'm a huge Alan Moore Fan love Watchmen and V so much so that I hunted down this beauty:
  8. Lol considering I'm a big Watchmen fan, Sandman fan, and Constantine fan (I have a NM Swamp Thing 37) you think I'd have included them. I was really thinking 90's forward. My apologies for including the 80's. Anything Liefeld created doesn't count though
  9. It would serve everyone right. I don't mind spending $10 on a new book if the reason for speculation warrants it, but we've seen enough unoriginal characters to know this game. The books already upwards of $20 It would be nice to get a new and original staple character form one of the Big Two but we just keep getting rehashes and gender swaps of old characters. Venom is the last original character I can think of and we can see what they have done with that. If anyone can think of someone from the late 80's onward that's a staple character and not a rehash post it up.
  10. Cool can't wait to read the Starlin books.
  11. Interesting did not know about that speculation. Love Starlin and hope they didn't screw him, but at the end of the day I'm sure they did. I have yet to read the new graphic novels Starlin put out but they are on my way too long reading list. Having a toddler and baby on the way has really cut into comic reading time. Let alone funding books. My goals for next year are a 6.0 Marvel Spotlight 5 and a 7.0 SS4 if I can squeeze it in, funding those will be a battle. Did you read both the Cates run and the Starlin books? Are they quite similar?
  12. Ouch I'm a big Thanos fan. Of The character Thanos that is .... not necessarily that run, but I did enjoy that run. I like the concept of CGR, however this is where I can agree with you the character was not written well. If CGR was supposed to be Frank Castle then why does he act like Deadpool. The character read very much like Deadpool in a Ghost Rider skin. Along with that Marvel did what they do best and rode the character into the ground. The Thanos centric parts of that run were very good in my opinion.
  13. Thanks for the info and for being a good sport.
  14. Cates does a good job on most runs he's on.
  15. Thanks for the background my good man.
  16. Good to know, it may give this thread some legs if he's the reactionary buffoon I hope he is. I will gladly do battle in the ways of old here at the altar of the CGC Boards.
  17. It's the unfortunate commercial side to medium a lot of us consider true art. That's why my view is to just trim the fat and keep what's good. Those Venom books where he was fighting dinosaurs do not exist to me.
  18. Oh I will cover to cover. This one is gonna get me through the workday From the first page Looks like an argument over the sale of a double covered action. I'm sure all will become clear as I push onward.
  19. I have begun the read it looks like a good one.
  20. I can agree with this. Everything has been venomized too the extreme and it killed any cool factor Venom has. Venomverse was a horrible abomination. Guns that shoot symbiotes really??? .... Garbage. That being said I like a lot of the other books Cates has been the writer on. Every book has bad runs and good runs. One would hope Cates could do the character some justice. I stopped reading at like issue 7 so I have some catching up to do at some point. Unless everyone convinces me the run is trash.
  21. As to posting in Gen. Exactly thank you 😂 .... ffs people. As to missing out on Punchline I don't feel like I missed out because I personally don't like the character. But thats just my opinion to each their own. I worry about missing out on characters I might actually be into. Virus may be one of them or he may be a BS character. By the time I figure it out the book will be $50+ 😂 A lot of the spec is out of control right now but what else is new. I think I'll just continue to worry about funding my Marvel Spotlight #5 instead of buying hot new characters. That being said I'm just wondering what people think if the character People seem to like Knull. I don't think a lot of these books hold value long term. But some will. Some people don't like anything new apparently.
  22. For what it's worth Marvel Wiki says it lays in between 25 and 26.
  23. Yeesh .... 59 posts in and not only are you an insufficiently thoughtful person, you are also board police in training with a hint of condescending jack***. I wouldn't say I'm a speculator considering I've never flipped a book. I've never sold any if my 2000+ books ...Collect mostly nice bronze books and drek 90's modern runs of my youth with a splash of silver thrown. Unfortunately being a child of the 90's I have some love for Venom guess you find that off-putting. New Venom character shows up I try to open up discussion on it. If you wanna **** on the character cool, he might suck that's what the discussion is for. If you wanna be an @** for being an @**'s sake be my guest. If I'm a fanboy of anyone it's the much less respectable Moon Knight. If you wanna $***-post in my direction that would be the button to press. Welcome to the boards feel free to EAD. If @ADAMANTIUM hasn't welcomed you yet I'm sure he will soon.
