  1. I was just gonna write to you about that. The bubble on my Phantom Menace Jar Jar did indeed yellow, 300$ back would be cool.
  2. I don't think it's a mistake either since it seems in line with CGC's pros and cons grading. Here is a book from my collection, not one I am too proud of since, like this book, it has a defect that sucks HARD. However, it was a way to get this rare book for very cheap (I paid just slightly higher than the 2.0 guide value) and we can see CGC weighing the defects against the rest of the book. From what I can tell, that part of the cover missing is the only major defect. In my 3.0 below, while less is missing, it has some heavy staining on the spine and still didn't get below 3.0. Just presenting some evidence to help see how CGC grades such defects.
  3. wow, I could actually afford that ! (I mean it would still be one heck of an expense for me and my budget would be spent but still feasable if it was something I truly wanted)
  4. No they did not mention it. It was a golden age book that seemed tinkered with, where the pages were out of order, and a possibly married cover (since the cover looked waaay better than the inside of the book). Still not sure what to make of that book, but I didn't want to take a chance and they were fine with it. And you're right, it is a different situation, hence why I didn't want to detract from the conversation. It's just that some people were saying as a blanket statement that no one gives returns past a year and that's not entirely true.
  5. I agree with all said, I just wanted to add a fun fact about Heritage , they don't have limits on returns, if there is a legitimate claim. I think they know that a lot of people sit on their inventory (sometimes it is left there as well for quite some time). I was able to return something over a year later after a serious issue was discovered as I was preparing to send some books to cgc.
  6. Yes that's Jeffrey Wright. And I agree that all Batman costumes look ridiculous. I hated Affleck's, that whole head was ridiculous. I agree that this one ain't great but it's a take on what we saw from Scott Snyder's year one stuff and I don't mind seeing a new take on it. I like the tone, it feels a bit Long Halloween, which is my favourite book.
  7. If all issues have that same defect then a 9.8 is possible, but if not, then it's a toss up and could be 9.6. Best thing to do is submit through a dealer or account holder that will submit a bunch of other books at the same time allowing you to do a 9.8 prescreen.
  8. Yes they have, we have a whole thread about that called "adventures in the dollar bin". But only go if you don't mind feeling overly jealous of someone's lucky find. Also, the flippers who make money don't do it the way you do. You won't find gold bin diving too much. The way flippers have made money is in those integers between 9.4-9.8 grades on key books. They will spend thousands on a Giant Size X-Men 1 in 9.6. Crack it out of it's CGC case, press it and regrade it. if it comes out 9.8 then they doubled their money. Flipping any other way is probably more effort than it's worth. And to answer your other question a 1$ raw comic can be worth more in a CGC case IF it becomes a 9.8. But then you have to remember not just the appearances and comics that matter but also make sure it has a chance at 9.8. because if not, then the comic's value will not increase on par with what it cost to slab. Here's a key you might find in a dollar bin, New X-Men 134. A flipper found it and sent it to CGC, paid anywhere between $30-$40 alltogether in terms of expenses. And because it came back 9.6, it sold for only $19, so money was lost. So don't waste your time on dollar bin books and counting pennies, concentrate on bigger books that have interest now (like Detective Comics 359, Ultimate Fallout 4, ect) and flip those.
  9. He sure does, too bad he HATES Canada!!!! Just messing Oats, I totally get it
  10. I'm really glad you took it. It's a beautiful looking book that I would have bought on site if this could ship outside the US. I was getting antsy seeing it not sold yet.
  11. Wow, that's a super cool display, very cool to see someone dedicated to Stilt Man.
  12. I'd say 7.5. I think it has just a few too many defects for the 8.0
  13. Yeah, the draw is that it's basically a "rarer" variant, the same as a newstand copy compared to a direct market copy.
  14. The answer is no, you can't combine and must make 2 different orders.
  15. Thanks JJJ. @joeypost just tagging you here since this is one of the comics I sent and I wanted to share what was written, just in case. Cheers all!
  16. Thanks Foggy, I am rather proud of that, I left a link at the bottom to another one I am proud to own. I love the fact that such nice copies of these rare books can still be affordable so I am enjoying it while it lasts (and while I still can afford it). Gonna get some of these pressed and graded so we'll see how they turn out.
  17. Sent this one to get pressed/cleaned and graded. We'll see how it comes out.
  18. FYI, it's not that they are printed in lower quantities, especially when there was a time that newstand copies were the norm. It's that the newstand versions went by different distribution rules and the ones not sold had to be destroyed. And thus, it's less likely now that you find a stack of mint unsold newstand copies in a warehouse compared to finding such a stack of direct market versions.
  19. no no, it was in terrible shape, hence why it was rather affordable. Complete but beat up. I'd say a 1.0-1.5. I remember not liking the fact that the comic continued on the back. I was 20 and just getting into comic collecting. Between that and Daredevil 1 (which was indeed next to it in the shop), it was no contest where my money ended up.
  20. That's one hell of an awesome key. I was actually had the opportunity to buy that comic in a really low grade years ago and it wasn't that expensive. But I was all cool and thought mickey mouse comics had no place in my Batman collection. Oh, if I could go back.
  21. These comics wont sell that much more in slabs anyway so the cost of pressing and grading by CGC would never translate on par into increased value.
