PGM Amazing Spider-Man Annual 16
William-James88 replied to William-James88's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Yeah, I think a cleaning will work with this book. I think it's a decent enough pressing candidate. And while I know it won't be super high grade, this is the rarer price variant and one that CGC actually states as such on the slab. -
PGM Captain Marvel Adventures 12
William-James88 replied to William-James88's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Thanks! This was sold to me as a 3.5. But I felt this might be more of a 3.0, so that's the price I paid. Curious to see what pressing will do. https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/captain-marvel-adventures-12-fawcett-publications-1942-condition-vg-/a/121947-17387.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 -
Newbie Canadian Seeking Advice
William-James88 replied to kimvets's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
I sent some books to Florida today from Montreal. I sent around the same number of books. Bubble wrap is the way to go. I made two sets of about a dozen books and I bubble wrapped them. You can then put pieced of carboard on the top and bottom of your bubble wrap bundle and fasten them with tape. Then I put both bundles side by side in a big cardboard box. We are lucky in Canada, we actually have a USPS service for packaged sent to the US. When I explained what I was sending and why to the lady, she chose to mark "other" in the declaration section and write "for evaluation, will be returned". You can write any number you want for total value, it doesn't matter since there arent taxes involved and the US has no duty fees for civilian packages anyway. For insurance, I paid for $500 in additional insurance. It wont cover my books, but I figured it's enough to ensure that my package doesn't get lost or at least will give an extra incentive to find it if ever it does get lost. It only cost me $30 for the package with tracking and an additional $10 for insurrance. That is a way better deal than what it will cost you (and I ) when those books get shipped back from the US. Shipping from Canada to the US is waaaay cheaper than shipping from the US to Canada since they don't have a canadian service, they just consider us as international a destination as the UK. -
PGM Mary Marvel 7
William-James88 replied to William-James88's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Thanks for all your responses. I will admit, the grades mentioned are more likely to be what this ends up being after pressed since this books looks a lot worse in hand. Those creases make the cover look jagged (they don't break colour though, hence why pressing it will be awesome). It was sold to me as a GD by Hertitage and that's what I always assumed it was https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/captain-marvel-adventures-group-of-10-fawcett-publications-1943-48-condition-average-gd-total-10-comic-books-/a/121943-17543.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 -
Oh man, you're on a roll.

Very happy with my purchase. I got some lovely rare Fawcetts priced perfectly with adhering to overstreet grading standards. That FN/VF Marvel Family you had looks even more beautiful in hand and I am always happy to add another Mary Marvel to my collection.

PGM Amazing Spider-man 22
William-James88 replied to William-James88's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Really looking forward to it as well. Will be my first time pressing books. It will take a while for everything to be done but I will be sure to update with a before and after. I do feel this is more of a 3.0, it looks like it was rolled up once. Heritage sold it as a 2.0 to make sure no one would be upset and return it haha. -
PGM Green Lantern 40
William-James88 replied to gadzukes's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Yup, MCS uses the main accepted grading standards for raw books (overstreet). It's the same standards i used when I managed a comic shop. And it's the same one HA uses as well. Here's a listing of comics I had purchased. Gorgeous issues but with subscription crease, so VG. Most beautiful VGs I ever saw or owned but VGs none the less. https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/justice-league-of-america-10-15-group-dc-1962-condition-average-vg-total-6-comic-books-/a/121209-11351.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 -

If it breaks colour like the GL then yes. -
PGM Green Lantern 40
William-James88 replied to gadzukes's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Maybe not, I dont see much of a colour break, if there is no indication of a length wide crease after pressed you could be ok. -

PGM Green Lantern 40
William-James88 replied to gadzukes's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Yes. There was a discussion recently about an otherwise amazing looking book that had 1/3 of a subscription type crease on the back and it was lowered to a 7.0. So something 3 times as big getting a 4.0 fits. Plus that's the highest grade according to overstreet standards and those were the standards CGC based their grading on originally. Low grade comics can still look good, its just that some defects simply can't get higher grades. Like check these two books I got, the 1.5 presents waaaay better, but the defect is simply unforgivable. -

PGM Amazing Spider-man 22
William-James88 replied to William-James88's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Thanks everyone! I personally think its way lower but thats because it doesn't lay flat at all and that aspect doesnt come across as much in the pics. Always assumed this was a 2.0 -

Thanks, I think so too. But most defects can be cleaned or pressed out, so we'll see what that gives. -

PGM Green Lantern 40
William-James88 replied to gadzukes's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Subscription crease beings it to a 4.0 already, not sure how much lower you get with the added detached CF. I know sold raw, the grade would be 2.5 max, since CF detachment is the biggest difference between Overstreet grading standards and CGC. The grade from CGC could be anywhere between 2.5 and 3.5. -
Hello, I have removed this book from its slab and just wanted to let you know in case you wanted to remove it form your own database (or make this serial number void).
