  1. Very nice! Either a 9.4 or 9.6 depending on there being some spine roll action going on. If the staples are alligned and centered, then you can't really realign the comic. But if you suspect a slight spine roll, then yes a press could help. I don't think the smudging would be removed though. Nice corners!
  2. Yes! This is a great example of a good pressing candidate. Those colours in the background are beautiful!
  3. I don't like that bottom left corner. Unless every copy has the same issue, I would say 9.4, maybe 9.6.
  4. EEssh, that seller doesn't know how to grade. I don't think you'll get your VF+ either. I would feel more comfortable with a 7.5-8.0.Getting it graded does not seem worthwhile when you can get similar looking copies of this issue for less than $20 raw, and I say that with love as a member of the KISS Army.
  5. I think you are being a bit harsh. It has a length wide colour breaking crease, so automatically we start at 4.0 and look if there are other defects. There's the obvious corner, so I would deduct another point. Now we are at 3.0. But beyond that, the other issues are all acceptable at those grades mentioned and don't make it worse. I am assuming the centrefold is well attached, as is the cover. So I would say 3.0. That's a super cute book by the way, love that art! Oh and to answer your question while there may be some evidence that there may be leniency towards age, it's really not a sure thing. For every example of leniency, I find an example of really tough grading. Same as any other era. So I would say that it's best to judge every era uniformally. Especially since grading is all about looking at the wear and tear. Check this book for example: I think where people get mixed up is that flaws not brought upon by use of a comic (so like bindery defects, problems with colour, corner chipping, manufacturing tears and creases) are not judged as harshly and these manufacturing defects are more common in older books. But it's still the same rules.
  6. If anyone cares, mailing from Canada to the US using priority mailing has been fine. It only took a week for my books to reach CGC.
  7. Are you interested in purchasing them there since they are priced better than elsewhere? Because unless it's a great deal (it might be if you are thinking of spending an extra $20 on each for pressing), it might not be worth the hassel. I mean no scans sounds like a massive red flag. Also, in general, I am always apprehensive of anyone grading a 9.8 raw.
  8. Probably many. Remember those videos that new speculators look at? "If you're not getting your books pressed, you are leaving money on the table" actual quote from the video with no mention of what pressing does.
  9. CGC plays with this too. I highly doubt all the SS books sent in need to be cleaned along with a press and yet there is no option for just a press. We have to pay the full 20$ which includes a cleaning for these modern books that don't need it.
  10. I know I'll forget, so I will just post all these now: Police Comics 61: 8 Universal, 1 restored Marvel Family 51: 6 in census Mary marvel 9: 6 in census
  11. Getting this book pressed and wanted to put it here for when it comes back and we can compare.

  14. Is there some staple tear going on with the bottom staple?
  15. It does, but hey I wouldn't argue Lots of people buy the slab rather than the book. Also PLOD means Purple Label of Death since usually a purple label will automatically have less people interested and thus smaller demand means lower price.
  16. As it turns out, since this is a board member, which I was unaware, we shouldn't discuss issues we may have with their grading out in the open. It is also not on topic since what's being discussed here are Midtown Comics and MCS.
  17. That is annoying. To me it's the same as people selling "high grade" books for the price of a slabbed 9.4, 9.6, 9.8 copy respectively. Sure, it could very well be those grades, but if you want me to pay a slabbed premium, your book better be slabbed.
  18. I agree, i mentionned something to that effect in my post. But I wonder if pressing is taking that to the next level and turning people who may have been informed about grading into the cases you describe regarding ebay and your LCS.
  19. Thanks! I see what you mean and I agree with all those points. The colours are off, for sure, I just didn't know if that would intervene with the grade since it isn't the same as wear. I guess we'll find out when the results are back.
  20. Thanks all. What would you all say is keeping this book from being a higher grade?
  21. Yeah, one would think this would have sky rocketed with the excellent performance from David Tenant.
