  1. Getting this book pressed and possibly graded, wanted to put it here for when it comes back and we can compare.
  2. Getting this book pressed, wanted to put it here for when it comes back and we can compare.
  3. that entire edge is really problematic
  4. So far not sold on that claim. And it isn't a great sign that my apprehension at a rather obvious example was met with hostility by Bob, who further stated that everyone commenting on the "Spare a grade" knew nothing and that a book shouldn't be judged on scans since we can't see it in hand. That does of course defeat the purpose of an online business model, I mean if I am told I can't trust the scans, then what is the point of having them there? But that's all off topic since this isn't about Bob Storms.
  5. I really don't like that crease at the bottom right. But hey, I'm not CGC. Technically it is a CGC 9.8 nomatter how bad it looks inside the case.
  6. The only way to ensure a 9.8 is through a press/prescreen. So, you can submit it through here: https://cfpcomics.com/product/submit-books/ From there you can pay for a press and ask for a 9.8 pre screen. They will then send it to CGC.
  7. I also see less than experienced flippers stating the comic is a higher grade than it is due to what it looks like pressed and fans who don't know any better agreeing and paying mint prices on mid grade books. I've seen that exaxt example on the boards this past week.
  8. We've all seen posts of someone not in the know find some "old" comics in an attic and think the comics are in amazing shape since they aren't falling apart. The books turn out to be midgrade and not worth as much as was hoped for. While I haven't been on the boards that long, I see this same type of discussion but when speaking of pressing, where people will ignore some defects due to a book looking good after a press. Pressing will make the book look much better than before and it will fall flat, but any colour breaking crease will still be there and a 7.0 with that kind of crease will still be a 7.0 regardless, no matter how good the book may look after a press. And yet we have seen posts where people will object such a low grade based on the book looking otherwise "perfect". It seems pressing gives a false sense of grading standards since the resulting book will fall flat like a mint book and yet is far from a mint book. The remaining marks of a book having been worn don't speak as much as an evident bend but it will be graded the same. I just wanted to write this to see if I was the only one thinking that or noticing this, and I am wondering if this is more frequent now than before. Cheers!
  9. It's more a price than a grade that I have in mind. My budget for this issue would be at most $500 and so far this is the nicest copy I could find within that budget. I do really apprciate your input and I see how tinkering with it may not be the best solution. That's why I made this post, I wanted all your thoughts so as not to make a mistake I may regret.
  10. Yup, don't waste the money on a crack, press and regrade. Beautiful book though!
  11. It wasn't the case here. This book belongs to a collection that was all sent to voldy right away to then be sold. I do agree that my wording is not great, and I edited accordingly.
  12. Turns out that blotch at the bottom right can't be the colour touch, all copies have it I found this image from heritage, and it's the only graded copy they ever sold. Coincidentally, it was a blue label that also had slight colour touch: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/master-comics-25-fawcett-publications-1942-cgc-fn-vf-70-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/121909-11901.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515
  13. I suspect it doesnt as well, simply from my research into the difference (or lack there of ) I saw for an X-Men 120 slabbed vs unslabbed in this grade range.
  14. Thanks for the thoughtful post. I wouldn't want a purple holder at all. And yes, one of my main questions here was if this would be considered colour touch by CGC and give me a purple label or blue label and how to determine that. It's definitely something I have to find out. I would rather this be blue. If purple, then there is no use to change the slab from as it is now. But this book in a blue label would definitely benefit in a value boost. I don't know if I would be happy with the result. I know I'd preffer the book not to have all those engraved markings and look smoother (especially since that is an aspect which was not described nor properly shown when I purchased it initially), but scraping it does make me wince.
  15. Don't they sell for the same raw as slabbed? Go to e-bay and check how much each go for in CGC 7.5 and raw VF-. Let us know what the difference in price is.
  16. It would be nice to own a four figure book I only spent a few hundred on. And there are so few copies of this book around that I would like my particular copy to reach its full potential.
  17. It's because they dont want you to return the book saying that the grade was wrong. Under promise and over deliver is one of the main rules in sales.
  18. Great idea for a thread, sorry it devolved into off topic shenanigans but I do have a legit answer for you. That happened to me too very recently. Since March 3rd, I noticed that Mycomicshop had a Master Comics 25. The price was ok but not great. Technically it was the cheapest option I could ever get for that book but also the highest I would pay for that specific grade historically speaking (there are only like 20 books graded and only a couple get sold per year so it's not super obvious to determine a trend). Long story short, 4 months later I said "the hell with it" and pulled the trigger. I knew that if I kept stalking the book and one day I wouldn't see it, I would feel bad. Now I have it and I feel great!
  19. I think it will get blue since Green Label is usually if the signature is on the cover.
  20. Happy to see a fellow Fawcett fan! Also, that Die Gretchen cover is super sweet!
