  2. X-Men 101, NM 87 and 98 and a few more A few slabs to pay for a few slabs. First get sit either here in the thread or via PM. Consider all books pressed. Shipping is extra and to your door. No one on any lists, or if I have you on ignore. First up is X-Men #101 CGC 9.4 with white pages. $450.00 (Last sale was $500.00)
  3. That is more of an issue with hydration, but it is part of the pressing process.
  4. Not really, but if one wanted to, they could make a fairly convincing argument to those who are not intimate with the procedure. Changing the alignment of the spine goes well beyond the process of pressing. This is not the same as taking out a non-color bend or dent, it is moving defects to a less visible part of the book.
  5. Absolutely. I have seen books that were actually burned by the presser using too much heat. Other things to look for are as follows: Loss of gloss Crushed spine Rippling Cockling Foreign objects imbedded into the covers (small pieces of dirt, residue from dry cleaning, etc) Burnt smell Overly hydrated books will feel limp Flaring of pages Popped staples ...Just to name a few.
  6. Am I to assume you sold these to Greggy?
  7. I do the same thing with the paper. Used to drive my elementary school teachers crazy.
  8. There are plenty of existing threads about this subject.
  9. Someone is incredibly stupid.
  10. I agree. But if CGC had practiced what they preached about how artists should be handled, this would have never happened. As I stated earlier, unless someone steps up big time, any chance of future work with Mr. Starlin will do the way of the dodo.
  11. Do we have any PhDs. in Economics who can wrap this one up?
  12. Dry cleaning alone wont work. More is need to get the gunk off the book. Unfortunately for this copy, it looks like they ink was affected already and will always show discoloration, even after the glue is removed.
  13. boy oh boy, this thread sure made a left at Albuquerque. The truth of the matter, after all the arguments posted in this thread, is that Mr. Starlin has made a decision. A decision that may be based on an incomplete knowledge of the SS process, but one based on how he was treated by those who are part of the process. Unless someone steps up and explains/apologizes things to him, to remedy the situation, his decision will likely become a permanent one.
  14. While fingerprints cannot be dry cleaned, they can be removed if the oils from the print did not interact with the inks and are just sitting on the surface of the book.
  15. You would be surprised. SS facilitators make money on taking books for customers, from the grading if they have all the books graded under their account and money off of their own books. I know because I did it early on before all the change sin the SS program. Contrary to popular belief, it is not easy money and is a lot of work, but once you get a following you can make a living off of it.
  16. He signs all his books the same. Not sure if he has changed, but in the past he would only use black sharpie and nothing else.
  17. But...you can pre-screen blue label books so you only get 9.8, 9.6, etc., to minimize any loss.
  18. Mr. Starlin can do whatever he likes with his pricing, and who he chooses to do business with, its really that simple. While unfortunate, it is usually the little things that tend to get people going, and in this case it was the straw that broke the camels back for a creator I was actively getting books together to get signed by. Lots of losers in this scenario.
  19. I would rather pay for the candy and get the comics for free. The CGC schedule DOES NOT show on-site at WWC this year. Hopefully this is just a glitch.
  20. Don't sell yourself short. I think you could do much, much worse.
  21. That is a risk you always run cracking a book out. I would inspect it thoroughly to see if it has any damage, and if still not sure post some scans in the please grade my comic section.
  22. I can understand his stance since it does not take much to push these guys over the edge, especially when they see the extra money their signatures bring. While we would like to think this is an isolated incident, unfortunately it's not. I have personally witnesses people fail to donate money to the heroes initiative after the artist said that was all they required for their signature.
