  1. Found this in an old article (interview with Steve Borock). Murph0 asks: 1. Do you think CGC ever get caught up to the advertised 40 business day turnaround for Economy? SB: At times we have been on time. The Economy tier is the hardest tier to make money with. We get a 1.8 copy of Famous Funnies #62 with restoration and a page missing that does not affect the story. We know it is missing because we know the page count. We still need to stop what we are doing, check our database, check comics.org, or call a few dealers or collectors who might have an unrestored copy that we can check the other one against. That takes time. That is also the difference between certification and just grading, you need to know page counts, back covers, pin-up pages and other things about each individual comic. Just knowing how to grade is not going to help you open a certification service. You need experts in restoration and the knowledge about each and every era and genre. I have met so many hobbyists that have no clue about page counts and have been burned because some of their comics are not complete.
  2. joey is just fine the way he is. Many of the new services CGC is touting I have offered to my customers for years (and for less).
  3. If a seller screws up badly and the byproduct of that screw up is a disgruntled customer who holds a grudge then the blame lies solely with the seller. If sellers don't want grudges held against them then they shouldn't screw up. Simple. Even if they attempt to make it right down the road. Even if they go above and beyond in trying to make it right. The hard feelings that the customer has are directly because the seller screwed up in the first place. DON"T BE A SCREW UP! I agree with you Richard...to a point. This is a case of making your own bed. What I want to know is how long we are going to force people to lie in it.
  4. So how does a victim of this multiple offender suddenly become a 'tool' ? What is "best effort'? Seems like 6 months of total denial is stretching it on 'best effort' Maybe using Brents case was not the right way to make my point. They become a tool when they decide to teach someone a lesson. What if it is someone else in the future and the wronged forum member feels they don't want the book or restitution regardless of the sellers efforts? What then? In this small of a community people pay for their mistakes. With that said, there is a point that the wronged party can take it too far. You have been here two years, you have never seen that happen?
  5. My guess is, we could have a vote...but right now, I don't think we have enough information. I think we have to look even beyond Brents case. There are some who carry a grudge forever, despite the best efforts of others. I don't see enough checks and balances in the system right now to prevent grudges. There were 20 people involved here, Joe...not one or 2. a large percentage have not even responded yet. I know Brent wants to be "pro active" but the invoices were just sent out a week ago, after 6 months, and even he agrees we can give it more time. Pirate is not the only one who can hold a grudge...what if 6 people are holding grudges? As far as the way the rules work...they have worked remarkably well...until it's someone with a lot of friends...not that there is anything wrong with friends...but do you really want to make it a popularity contest? I have nothing invested here Sha, nothing. I see a flaw in the system that despite someone who makes a mistake can be hammered for it. Lets take Brents case and put it aside. Let's use anyone else who happens to mess up with 3-4 transactions. If they after some time decide to make things right and one "burned" forum member decides to teach them a lesson... what then? I agree time needs to pass in Brents case. Like I said in an earlier reply in this thread, what happens with future transactions gone bad? I can see someone getting blacklisted unnecessarily. Especially someone who has a history of "not playing well with other children".

  7. Sounds like progress Sharon. I do agree the rules need to be clarified. In Brents case what is to stop someone from being a total tool despite his best efforts?
  8. So you are planning on keeping him on the list in the event he does something else in the future? As someone who also does a lot of buying and selling on these boards I do not agree with your statement. If Quality Comics has made everyone whole I see no reason to leave him on the list. Determining if that has happened with everyone involved seems to be the question. Sqeggs said pretty clearly that Brent should come off the list. I read that. I also read the rest of his post and commented on that.

Determining if that has happened with everyone involved seems to be the question. I think you missed the part of what I wrote now highlighted in bold above. I would take him off the list. Have you read the linked threads about his previous activities? Unlike eBay, on these boards we don't have an easy way of checking a seller's feedback. I've had no dealings with this seller but I am put off by his track record as revealed by the discussion in this thread over the past few days. Putting aside the particulars of this case, my hope is that we don't allow sellers to misbehave, get put on the PL, repent, get taken off the PL, misbehave again, repent again, etc. Following that course doesn't provide enough protection for buyers, which (I hope) is the main goal. I have read all the post in reference to Brent. If he has made ammends he should be taken off the list. I believe in keeping the buying and selling honest and certain measures need to be in place for that to happen. At times, some people tend to take these guidelines a little too far. Given enough time, the bad seeds always rise to the ocassion and find themselves on the HOS.

  11. I doubt it. Since your suggestion would never happen.
  12. If it means anything to anyone, I was at CGC and had a chance to talk to some of the decision makers about the TAT's. Given what they presently have to work with they are doing the best they can. Are they concerned? Of course they are, but they are running at full speed 6 days a week. What I cannot say for them is what they are planning on doing about the TAT problem long term. What I do know is eventually, they need to do something. That is a decision they ultimately need to make and no amount of complaining will affect that decision. Suggestions might be helpful, but complains and threats won't.
  13. Why don't you try it and let us know how well you do.
  14. And keep in mind turn around time doesn't refer to how long it takes to get it graded, but how long it takes to get it back in my hands.... currently at 164 days and counting I sense torch and pitchfork sales to rise in the near future.
  15. Yep Very strange, I called them again thinking maybe I didn't hear them correctly or something and was told again that they have not shipped but are in the que and should be going out most any day. I also inquired as to what date they are currently working on and was told the first week of July around the 5th or 6th Were they pre-screens? They always take longer.
  16. I was wondering that, too. No 9.8s in...10 years? and now all of a sudden there's three? Have the standards of grading for this particular book changed? Is it a conspiracy? Should I be form-fitting a tinfoil hat to keep CGC from reading my mind grapes? It was never on my radar until this year. I still have a few copies I think are 9.8 worthy. Will submit one soon. Interestingly, both of the 9.8's I received were pulled from dealer stock.
  17. If you call for grades and receive them before the books are enccapsulated the grade can change on a book. Grades can change even after they are posted as graded on the website. They are finalised when they are slabbed.
  18. We're just talking about comics... right? yes.
  19. Thats SME #4 is a 9.4 sitting in a 9.2 holder. Best looking copy I have ever seen. Blows my 9.2 copy away.
  20. It depends on where your books are in the queue. And how many fast track books come in and bump it back a few days.
  21. It was insane the amount of boxes they were taping up and carting away. I saw facilitators running back to the CGC booth with long boxes of SS books.
