Slammed is right. Once Covid/CGC price increase started my definition of a large order changed.

Closing shop may not help. I announced (too early) that I am closed the month of December. While I will still be working on pressing books in-house, I will not be taking new submissions. Once I made that announcement so many said they were getting books in early that they would have sent in December. And the rest asked the exact date I would be accepting new submissions. So, in reality, I really did nothing to affect shortening TAT’s after December. There is a pseudo mentality associated with temporarily stopping new submissions. Only real way to do it is to stop until the backlog is completely empty. Who is going to stop taking new submissions for months when they rely on the income to care for their families and employees?

Pencil mark or tear?
joeypost replied to byosti's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Don’t think it’s a tear. Most likely dirt or ink smudge. My guess would be dirt. -
That, is a great question. It does raise the age old ethics question. Knowing a few of the facilitators (not all of them, but a select few), I am sure this is rampant.

joeypost replied to Skunkboy's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Does it wipe off easily with a tissue? -

Will be listing around 10 books over the next week for sale. Shipping is included in the price to the CONUS. Overseas please PM me and we will work something out. Consider all books pressed. No returns on slabbed books. First gets it. That's either in the thread or via PM. trumps any pending inquiries. I take checks and regular PayPal. If you are on any list...don't bother. If I have you on ignore...don't bother. I will be listing two books tonight. Sorry for the bad scans. I purchased a new scanner and it does not do well on slabs.

9.0 ASM 300 with a corner bend: a question
joeypost replied to lostboys's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Keep in mind grading has tightened up over the last 5 years. And if that corner crunch has any color loss associated with it, 9.0 would be the best you would get. -
You can. Change the appearance of a book simply by changing the ambient humidity it is stored in. If a book is pressed properly at 50% humidity levels in the room, and then stored properly in that same environment chances are very low any reversion will happen. Once you add outside variables, all bets are off. Regarding fading and color loss over time, my experience is the opposite. If the book is cleaned and pressed properly you can remove oxidation that tends to dull the gloss in the cover, making the inks “pop”. Then again, what do I know.
-
Possible? Yes. But, this is largely due to rushing the pressing process and how severe the defects are.
-
Once again, you are spot on.
-
A poor (amateur) pressing, yes.

Is this something that a press can fix?
joeypost replied to lostboys's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Black covers are always problematic once a bend has been introduced. This should press out with no remnants of the initial damage. -
Magic Eraser for Cleaning Grime on Comic
joeypost replied to 815K1's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Sounds like a win. Taking a very mild abrasive to a shiny comic book cover. -
They can all be pressed.

PGM Dark Knight Returns #1
joeypost replied to bayesian_acolyte's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
This book needs some special attention due to the thick card stock, but most of the issues should come out or look significantly better. -
PGM Wolverine Limited Series #2
joeypost replied to candygramformongo's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
While it would benefit (slightly) from a clean and press, would the difference be enough to cover the cost involved. IMO, no. This books has foxing, mold, light tanning, dust shadows and dirt. Dry cleaning will only eliminate the dirt. The rest may be lightened, but they will still be visible. Invest those monies into a better copy. -
How would you grade these production flaws?
joeypost replied to 2Sunny's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
The issue this book has is not production related. It is a defect and, if it runs the entire length of the cover (north to south) you are in the 5.5/6.0 range. -
This book is exploding. So much so it is taking TTA 91 with it.
