Polybag removal
joeypost replied to Tyger Comics's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Removing a book from the poly bag is a rather straightforward process. You need to be patient and use a sharp blade or scissor. Have a replacement bag and board at the ready once the book has been taken out of the poly bag. Before re-bagging the book look it over carefully for indents from the poly bag seal. -
Any idea what would cause this?

The scratch coming down from the surfers arm is more of a concern. -

PGM Black Panther 1
joeypost replied to candygramformongo's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Is that dirt or foxing on the back cover? This book will clean up nicely if it is only dirt. With the exception of the small color breaks to the open edge of the book the stacking curls and indents will all press out. -

Have them evaluated first.

Dale Roberts Graham Cracker Comics High Grade Comics Daves Comics out of Georgia Harley Yee Lots of good books at the show, but I am still not used to the new values on books so I was still in shock, but quickly adjusted and did some buying late in the day.

Show isn’t that bad, but attendance seems to be down. The time I have spent in the booth with some dealers. It appears that books are moving, and fast.

Scheduled for grading...TWO MONTHS NOW!
joeypost replied to lostboys's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
This. I got rid of two large customers this year expecting my workload to reduce considerably. Nope. I am busier than I have ever been. I get submissions now that are 2-4 short boxes at a time. Absolutely crazy. -
Could be foreign objects pressed into the cover.
-
You don’t. That was a handling issue. Gorilla hands by the look of it.

The inner well can cause waves like that. -
Cleaning question
joeypost replied to Crimebuster's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
If done properly, pressing wont cause any additional damage to the book. As others have said, what you see on the cover is not from dirt, but some liquid and cannot be reversed without receiving a green or purple label. -
I have walk-thru that were dropped off on 6/28 still sitting in QC. Appears I have 3 more weeks to wait based on your submission. I think CGC needs to rename the tiers, as walk-thru is no longer accurate.

Time from "Scheduled for grading"
joeypost replied to Devin Colman's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Depends on tier of service, but SFG is where your books will spend the bulk of their time. It is misleading as they are really in the verification stage with grading happening towards the end of the wait. CGC used to have different stages that gave a little more detail as to where the books where in the process. Received. Still the same. Verified. Now SFG, with some invoices showing the books as pending...instead of the books title and issue number. Books can sit here a long time. Grading/Encapsulation/Imaging. Book is graded and waiting to be entombed. Grading/Quality Control. Pretty much waiting to be mailed out. Shipped/Safe if you are picking them up. Shipped. This is when you can see the grades on-line. Please correct me if I am wrong on any of these steps. -
Scheduled for grading...TWO MONTHS NOW!
joeypost replied to lostboys's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Two months? You got a few more to go, depending on tier selected. -
Upon press and resub...it may come back lower. That's a lot of color breaks and rub for a 9.6.
