Got this from @Point Five a week or so back. My 1st & 2nd Baker within a month. Funny, I don't feel addicted.

3 Baker stories. Not gonna lie, this panel looks a little sus, a la Shock 15 if you get my drift.

OK...well I shot my shot.  I can appreciate another buyer with excellent taste.  This thread is a DC dream!

I agree!  Great to see these books getting some love and strong prices.

Just catching up on this, and also very sad to hear the news of her passing. Was fortunate enough to have met her a few times back in the 90s thanks to Jay M., including a nice dinner where it was quite obvious what a fan she was of comics in general and the monetary aspect of it wasn't on her mind at all. Was able to get her a lead on a Detective #187 which was the last issue of that title (for some reason) she needed to complete the run.

In watching the video interview posted with her, I am pretty certain that the New Fun #1 in the pile under the 'Tec 25 came from me. I had gotten a very nice unrestored copy and she was interested in it as an upgrade for hers. It actually took a full weekend at a con to come to agreement on it as we did the whole deal in trade, but she was reluctant to trade me back her undercopy and Jay had to tell her to do the deal as he hadn't seen a nicer copy than the one I was offering her.

All this to say that I think we will find out she not only had a complete DC collection, but that I'm not going to be surprised if she had multiples of some of the mega-keys as she upgraded over the years and never bothered to sell under copies.

    Wow, thanks for that information.

Yes, way more than $20k in my opinion...though I may have a vested interest (the 7.5 is not my copy).

Unreal prices.  Never thought I would see Matt Baker books go for so much. Don’t get me wrong, I am happy with my All-Tops and Phantom Lady book’s going up, but wish I knew digging through all the boxes at conventions over the years!

I think that's fencing, but your point stands.

Ha! Ha!  Didn’t blow up the image on my iPhone.  I also live in Florida across from the beach!

Thanks to great boardie @Yorick for this tough book... a copy that may have logged some time at the beach itself, but happy to have one at all. Well pleased.  (thumbsu

Just an incredible cover by Matt Baker.

The framing by the palm fronds and the rocks really pulls your eyes to the sexy couple…

I agree and frankly, that cover has never really done much for me. I only got it because of the interior and I am a completist.

What you don’t enjoy Sandra getting a suntan? 😃

Since I threw this thread off the rails, might as well do it one more time. Courtesy of the boards only @Surfing Alien I give you “The Head of a Traveler”. Every bit as “sicko” as many of its comic book counterparts. So affordable. What would this go for if it were a comic book?…

    Love it!

What I mean about his versatility - same time frame as the horror, same StanMor, but a whole different vibe.  Daring Love has been a minor grail forever, due to it containing Ditko's first published work, but I think Baily's cover has a classic appeal that transcends the Ditko accreditation.  imho of course!

I always thought the “Daring” part was rolling around in the hayloft.  That stuff itches like crazy! 😬

An early photo of Leonard Brown with a recent “buy”. Yes, people coveted and paid up for Big Little Book back then.

A photo of Malcolm Willitts pulling out unbagged, high grade Batmans out of the vault. Collectors was located in an out of business bank building.

And a business card circa 1962 for Richard and Leonard before they opened the store and were combing the Long Beach area buying up old comics and selling them word of mouth. I got the card from Leonard. Notice he crossed out Richard’s info so I would deal directly with him.

So cool!  A vault for Golden Age even back then…

I think there were more collectors buying and keeping comics in the 1950s then folks realize. More folks buying and keeping comics starting in the 1940s than people realize. A lot of the founders of modern comic fandom in the early 1960s fell into those categories. And stores were actively buying and selling back issue comics much earlier than people realize. Willits & Brown were on the cutting edge of modern fandom when they opened Collectors Showcase in 1964. And it became a top store as multiple guys here have attested. Richard once posted on this site about seeing 12 copies of Batman 1 for sale at one time at that store in the mid-60s. But, I've seen ads for stores buying and selling used comics that date back to the 1940s. Comic and original art collecting was a thing well before it got truly organized in the early 1960s. And by the late 50s, Willits and Olson were hunting down comics and selling them through the mail.

Thanks for the insight. Another reason to login on the boards everyday…

Love the girl and the colors but hate the random green slime stripe down the middle. It has to be two pieces of art or a botched piece cut and spliced together.  My guess is you can find the cops on the left on some other crime cover, too.

That is weird.  Two covers reused makes sense.
