I just opened my gift. It's long been a family tradition to open gifts on Christmas Eve.

A HUGE thanks to @Loading... for the 2 Strange Terrors PS Artbooks, and for the Belgium Chocolate (thumbsu

With stories like "Sword of the Vikings" this title looks to be right up my alley.

I am glad you are enjoying the books! The reprinting in these collected editions is exquisite. I never knew these pre code collections existed before and now know what to get my father in law for his birthday haha

That's why I gave up on it. You'd think they'd have made a clear, concise way of collecting it in collected editions. They did not. It's a mess. For the first time I just said "no" and decided to pass, regardless of how much I love Hickman's work. If they can't make it easy for me to collect, I'll buy some thing else. The market is full of good material, after all.

This is my fear for the krakoa era. Hickman may have had a grand picture mapped out but it is but poorly executed currently. Maybe in the near future the powers that be can plan out a solid reading order for things. I like the idea at face value but it may be a bit over stretched from a story telling point of view.

That said I think an omnibus series is possible but it may be a couple years down the road after hickman’s contributions have come to fruition.

As @Cat is alluding to the krakoa era is heavy handed and convoluted. Maybe giving it a little time to be digested will allow the publishers to map out things better in the near future.

Those Batman/TMNT books are REALLY enjoyable. I've got the individual hardcovers for each of them. I'm still considering the omnibus though.

I am currently working my way though the TMNT IDW run and was thinking of picking this up as well. Hearing others mention it being an enjoyable read is making me think it's time to place an order with instock this weekend.

Nice pick ups btw @F For Fake I have only read the Powers of x / House of x but have heard good things about the krakoa era especially the marauders.

  4. Thanks for sharing the video @theCapraAegagrus It is a handy tip to help extend the life of your books, especially with some of these books clocking in at 1200+ pages.

My brother has an older omni he picked up off ebay that has a warped spine. I'll see if i can get him to send me a pic.

@F For Fake I hope they reprint this one as well in the future. I recall it being a mind blowing event for my 11 year old self. I am not sure how well it holds up but I am looking forward to reading the full story in the near future.

Awesome, and good of your friend to care enough to alleviate some burden, me having a relative who under went the same surgery there were things that help. In her case it was Animaniacs on Netflix. To your point, I too share your thoughts, as when I got a subscription to Wolverine as a kid he had just lost his adamantium, and that was a big draw for me to read! :x

Oh nice that was a a fun show when we were kids as it seems like we are close in age. Good for you sharing some fun silly humor to distract your relative. All distractions are welcome during a time like that especially comedy!

I remember freaking out over that moment in Fatal Attractions it was a very memorable moment as well when we found out his claws were bone all along. It was fun to see the character explored in a vulnerable state during that time period. I know some people didn't like it but I found it a humanizing aspect of his character. Being driven mad and lost in the fallout was wild. Now you have me wanting to revisit that story arch! Thank you @ADAMANTIUM I now know what I'll be reading after Batman: No man's land.

So, here's the thing @Loading....  I'm travelling for Christmas.  Leaving on 12/23 and returning on 12/28.  I can't really pack these presents and take them with me for space efficiency reasons.  My choices therefore are (1) leave the packages until after I get back. (2) Open them before I go.

I think you see which way I am leaning here....

I vote 2! Nothing wrong with opening it up now if you wont be around in my opinion.

quick question for all... will there be a new thread started on the 25th where we can post what we got?

These are great. I got really into these about 4 months ago. There's 14 volumes out, but the first 13 are by the same writing team, and are basically one story, so you definitely want them. Volume 14 has a different tone, and people complain about this run, but it didn't read too badly in collected form. It does get worse though, from what I've read. So decide csrefully for yourself if you want volume 14, but definitely get the first 13, provided you enjoy the ones you've purchased of course!

I'd also highly recommend The Last Ronin. It's not in continuity with the IDW run, but it's a darn good story, the story of the last surviving turtle, what happened, and what he does to avenge them. Very enjoyable.

    Enjoy your new books!

Thanks for the heads up a coworker said something similar. That a major event takes place in issue 100 and said it diverges a bit to. His thought process is they may be setting up for something down the road but time will tell. He has been trying his best to avoid many spoilers as he knows I am just about to jump headfirst into this whole run. I am excited to start reading when I have some free time to do so haha.

@srezvan@F For Fake Thanks for the heads up on the sale.

I'm going to keep the TMNT love going by adding the first 3 IDW collections to my mini library. Quite excited to finally get around to reading this run as I have heard many good things about IDW's handling of TMNT.

Bonus mini collection shot. I know I need to get around to upgrading my bookshelf to something bigger to accommodate my growing collection.

That should absolutely get the distorted hologram notation.

As an aside, I've never been entirely convinced how many of these blue holograms represent manufacturing defects and how many represent how these holograms may tend to age over time. Most research on archival preservation of holograms has been concerned with silver-halide-on-glass holograms rather than plastic because that's the technique that was generally employed for holographic art produced by Serious Artists (although the presence of hologram logos and labels on all sorts of things makes that an increasingly relevant question). For example, this paper from 2013, which does note some holograms tend to age from green to blue. However, that mechanism that causes the observed color shift doesn't directly apply to these holograms because of the difference in the materials involved.

    Still, it makes you wonder.

Wow that was an informative read @Qalyar Thanks for the information!

As you said, it is interesting to see that "For reflection holograms, colour change is a common problem, particularly a shift from red to blue; while yellow images can change from a gold hue to green. It has been suggested that this colour change is closely related to the thickness of the gelatin layer; swelling can cause a red shift and shrinkage a blue shift." I agree it seems plausible the the natural degradation of the materials is causing a shift towards a darker blue color. I think if the hobby as a whole starts to discover more and more "error holograms" a conversation will need to be had about about the validity of the error.
