  1. First book that I pulled out of the boxes(!) Bob, before you got there - couldn’t believe it when I saw it.
  2. Who doesn’t like Matt Fox? His covers for Weird Tales are all really good, so I had to snatch up this near-immaculate copy (white pages).
  3. This short run is well-respected, and when I saw this Wesso cover portrayed in the color section of the new Bookery (pg 181) I knew it was also a top want issue. Sure enough there it was on the dealer’s rack, with lovely ow pages too.
  4. This is a big one, for me at least. According to Bookery, this classic cover (look closely) book is tied for the most valuable in the entire run. Untrimmed, with ow-w pages. Contains the noted story The Mole Men Want Your Eyes by Frederick C. Davis. This horror pulp has it all!
  5. Last issue in the short run. Brundage cover. This particular copy appears to be unread.
  6. OK, done. My most expensive buy at the show, but oh baby so worth it. This is a strange book (1937) as it lacks indicia. One can easily imagine it being concealed underneath the counter for the stealth publisher. Also, there’s an indexed 92 pages but then more stories are added in starting with page “65b”. Never seen anything like it. Untrimmed. Scarce to rare. Note that “Blaine” is a known AKA of the great Norman Saunders who rendered this spectacular cover.
  7. @Robot Man Bob, can you please post that Stage & Screen you picked up yesterday? Even in lower grade, that was a spectacular book to see in person - you really “cleaned up” with that purchase!
  8. This was the least expensive book that I picked up at the show - I guess the publisher’s decision to replace a cover image with the table of contents wasn’t too smart after all (duh). Anyway, this copy is almost newsstand fresh, including white pages, so I could not resist...
  9. Cool DC romance books, Ted - hard to believe that these are almost 50 years old!
  10. Part II of acquisitions from the LA Paperback show yesterday. These early (1927 here) sci-fi bedsheets, with Paul covers, seem comparatively undervalued in nicer condition, but what do I know.
  11. Thanks! Good observation on the vampire, I was looking at Bookery and it says the vampire is lurking below. Either way, what a chilling cover (by Charles Wrenn).
  12. The lurking vampire at the bottom of the well just slays me, what a chilling and outstanding horror cover! And did someone say white pages? per pm, many thanks Rick.
  13. January 1940, Bookery identifies this as a classic cover... congrats!
  14. Thanks Rick! Only half of the day’s haul, will post the other half tomorrow (including a couple pulps you should REALLY like!).
  15. (Don’t know why this image insists on being sideways) I was on the fence with this one, but Robot Man brought me to my senses...
  16. Legion of Space concludes, plus a Skylark story by Smith. September 1934, ow-w pages.
  17. This minor key was a top want of mine, Jack Williamson’s The Legion Of Space begins. So a box dive and there it is, in grade. With ow-w pages. Amazing. Astounding!
  18. 7/20/29 Story and letter by Robert E. Howard. Untrimmed pulp.
  19. 1/8/16 For a pulp that’s 100+ years old, this copy has great pages. Take a look at the Table of Contents for something special.
  20. Starting out small, literally... Arkham Sampler 1#1, white pages. The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath (part 1) by Lovecraft. This issue was published in an edition of only 1,200 copies. The title had an 8 issue run, it‘s common for there to be rust at the three staples. This beautiful copy appears to be unread.
  21. Went to the 41st annual Los Angeles Vintage Paperback Show today. Had the pleasure to visit with boardies Robot Man and Hap Hazard, plus I saw several comic book dealers were in attendance. The show would have been a complete dud for me (I don’t collect paperbacks), BUT one dealer and his wife drove from the East Coast to setup and they had a wonderful selection of pulps across all genres. Some great stuff, I gladly spent hours sifting through product and selecting samples of the best pulps. Scans coming up later...
  22. First published sci-fi story by Robert Moore Williams (7/37).
