  1. No you're right... an example would be Wow Comics #23. You can get the Church 9.2 copy for $1450 or you can Upgrade to the Rockford CGC 9.4 copy (highest census) for $150 less ($1300). That's just crazy to me. I understand where you're coming from if we take the myopic view of only considering the technical (9.4 versus a 9.2) grade of a book. However, experienced collectors know that Rockfords tend to have brown interior covers, and the Church books usually have whiter pages. So in reality, the Church copy will almost always be much more desirable than a Rockford ...even at a higher price and in a (slightly) lower grade. STEVE Got Larson?
  2. You definitely need it. Agreed - I can see the headline now: RHG and Geppi get into a bidding war for the 9.6 Adventure 41, and RHG wins!! To finance the purchase, RHG engages in several business transactions with adamstrange and sacentaur, and a handful of books discreetly change ownership. Everyone is happy, group hug all around. Film at 11... STEVE Got Larson?
  3. Paging Mr. Steve Geppi! I've held that book in my hands when Gary Carter had early M.H. Adventures on display (and for sale) in San Diego. As I don't own a 41 now, wish I had knuckled under and paid the price (5x Guide, IIRC) at the time... seems like a bargain nowadays. I've heard expressed this is a "Titanic" cover: STEVE Got Larson? (indeed - code erasure on front cover)
  4. If we could somehow put them both together (my condition, your colors), we'd have one heck of a book. STEVE Got Larson?
  5. Someone mentioned wanting to see more Planets?... STEVE Got Larson?
  6. Yes it is (good eye) - I purchased it direct from Payette. He had kept it since it was a top-of-stack book and was somewhat dirty/dusty. Jim had it pro cleaned, and later sold it to me (I'm very pleased with it). STEVE Got Larson?
  7. Excellent info on Flanagan (well done, lads). Don't think we've seen this one yet... STEVE Got Larson?
  8. Most married men can't say that. The Whiz 18 cover is one of the best of the run, IMHO - congrats. STEVE Got Larson?
  9. Too rich for my blood - I'm sure there's a Marvel Fanfare # 1 out there somewhere with my name on it to ease the pain. STEVE Got Larson?
  10. I honestly don't know lou - I don't recall Gary discussing the particulars with me (sorry). STEVE Got Larson?
  11. Do tell. How many copies from the IR have you seen? Not that many - I only purchased a handful and have no idea how many books were in the original find. RHG, I've always loved that cover (Adventure 91)! STEVE Got Larson?
  12. In general, no they don't. Are their exceptions, sure. I wouldn't have mentioned anything about the couple books he posted here except that he already posted quite a few in the ACG thread with the explicit mention of them being for sale. Nor would I make any comment if Bob used some inventory book to illustrate some point about an artist or comics history. I would prefer that this forum not turn into the marketplace forum as, having visited them on occasion, I believe it would make this forum less interesting. The architect created various "For Sale" forums to support board commerce and to leave other forums primarily commercial free. Well said. Agreed - I'm 100% with Adam on this one. STEVE Got Larson?
  13. And yes, the National 10 is for real - it looks every bit as good in person. Look at Sheena on the cover of that Jumbo 17 - she's almost maniacal to get hold of the native's big spear! STEVE Got Larson?
  14. Where'd you get that beauty? The same place I got this! (Answer: San Diego Comic Con, Motor City) STEVE Got Larson?
  15. Yesss! <cue Mel Gibson at the end of Braveheart...."Freedom!"> If possible, please post another scan - I'd like to see those colors unimpeded. (and if you don't mind, wander over to the "Confessions of a CGC crack addict" thread and post your impressions) STEVE Got Larson?
  16. I honestly don't recall - the book went back to the vault today, but if nobody chimes in I can check it out next time. STEVE Got Larson?
  17. Even in its tomb, I can see that the copy has strong colors. What a great cover - congrats pb66! STEVE Got Larson?
  18. Wowzers... that is a GREAT book, Adam!!! STEVE Got Larson?
  19. I picked this up to match the National 7 that I posted last week (on pg 292) - I think they make a nice pair. Near flawless raw copy except for some slight fraying and a tiny nick out at the bottom spine. White interior covers and white pages, too. Lou Fine is... divine!! STEVE Got Larson?
  20. (re:Adv 51 geez, yet another sweet book Win!!) This particular copy came from the Indian Reservation find, via Gary Carter. Anyone else familiar with these lovely books? STEVE Got Larson?
  21. It's never been graded. When I first saw the book, it had a 1" mouse chew on the lower spine and a small chunk out of the back cover... but was absolutely beautiful otherwise (glossy cover, strong colors, supple off-white pages, etc.)! Thirteen agonizing months later it came back, and needless to say I was very happy the way it turned out. Once in a rare while, a gem like this comes along where some needed work is done and the book just turns out great. Especially on key GA issues, a strong copy with some professional restoration is just fine with me (and much more affordable, too). Good luck in your quest - you're on the verge of quite an achievement. STEVE Got Larson?
  22. Ladeeees and Gents, we have a weeee-nar! (well done, pb66) STEVE Got Larson?
