It's pretty clear this is officially a gossip website and I don't need to be part of it anymore,

(as with many serious art collectors who refuse to post here for similar reasons)

Theo just responded and here is his response back to me when I told him his art is 100% NOT DRAWN BY JOHN ROMITA SR............

I asked John Romita Sr. This very question years ago......As some of his ASM art issues with Jim Mooney were stated as "ROMITA BREAKDOWNS"... and I was curious myself what this meant to him since he was the BREAKDOWN artist on some of these books

John told me that breakdowns are pencils, but you just didnt fine tune it perfectly in every way.

John said that PENCILS and Breakdowns ARE (and I'm quoting John) "Essentially they are the same thing but that with breakdowns, Tiny things maybe didn't get drawn.....like fingernails!"

I love it when this happens by the way.......I sold this cover 2 years ago (at San Diego Comic Con I believe)...Low and behold it appears in the May 2020 Heritage Auction....

It shocked the heck out of me that i was able to win it for 6900........

 I put it back up on my website for 500 less than what i sold it for in 2018..... And 1 hour after i put it on my website i had a buyer for 11.5k.... ALL CASH!

I always tell people..... Just because something sells at auction for a certain price only means it was worth that much on "THAT PARTICULAR DAY!"

Interesting to see the differences between unpub and published covers

Interesting question for a new topic for someone to bring up..... "UNPUBLISHED / UN-USED COVERS!"

Oddly enough I feel there are more unpublished HULK covers from the 1970's than any other Marvel title out there...

Why???  i don't know

I own 5 unpublished Incredible hulk covers from the 1970's and i'm sure there are more out there!

The top half of this 81 unpub cover is all stat...... if you look closely at scan you can see the razor cut....everything below that razor cut is drawn art...everything above is stat.

my first ASM comic off the stands was the  Andru drawn ASM 178..... (i had a beat up copy of ASM 105 as a kid i must have read 50 times from my older brothers...LOL)

i honestly never cared for Ross Andru's Spidey look after getting back issues to compare artists when i got a paper route to buy comics.........I loved Romita's and Ditko's Spidey the most.... most...

Andru's Spidey eyes were always down by his CHEEK BONES and that always bothered me..even as a 12-13 year old.....

i'd always tell myself..."Pete's actual eyes are ABOVE the mask white eyes so how can he possibly SEE out of the mask? LOL

funny you say that.... I've been told from a person I know in the entertainment industry that Eminem is a huge Romita Spidey fan.... (seriously!)

I haven't read posts here for a  while so my comment below may be a duplicate to other previous posts..........

 is it just me or does this cover board just seem a little...."oversized" for this time period? 

a large scan of This cover art was shown to me 2 years ago for my opinion and I told the collector after a quick look at the scan, that it was a recreation as it looked so white back then....

(maybe it was just the scan i had been sent?) But I then compared it line for line to the comic as best i could and it matched up pretty well to the comic.

not sure if people know this but the Punisher image is on a separate board and glued down to the cover art.

obviously no way to tell if its stat or not without seeing it in person. if they are valuing it on TMZ as 2 mil, i'd like to think the Punisher and everything else is drawn art.
