although it is possible that this is a real stan lee signature near the end of his life, when he was quite shaky, i believe that the fact that the cgc label simply says name written in pen on cover, without quoting the name stan lee, indicates that cgc does not consider it to be authentic.

it certainly looks bogus to me though i am not a handwriting expert. i've seen some very bad late stan sigs on books, but they do not look like this one.

Yes. Usually CGC will note the name, such as "Stan Lee written on cover in marker".

Maybe it was really a kid named Stan Lee and this is his personal copy. If that's the case, we need to track him down and let him know someone stole his comic.

Totally new to the boards, longtime reader.  I too am a long-time Flash fan, having sadly sold my collection 15 years ago pre-marriage and then got back into things once the pandemic and some personal challenges (divorce, health) hit my life.  Discovered this thread a few days back and getting a real kick out of it.  Long story short, my favorite 5 covers from the classic era are 113, 123, 139, 174, and 323 (have all those issues).  Just acquired a CGC-graded copy of 139, very exciting!

Welcome to the boards. Time to post some pictures.

Is there really any need to debate this?

    Why else are we here?

I mean, we could also cross-reference the census to GPA. Then, we could also pull the published run numbers and extrapolate another guesstimate. In addition, we can calculate the probability of how many mom's threw away which comics based on how naughty the kids were back in the day.

But all of that would be way off because when I look at my collection, I don't see a copy of OOAW#83. Wait a minute, that aligns with the data!

I sure hope folks aren’t scheming in this way, but it sounds easy enough to pull off. I took a look at the seller’s other items. Man does he have some good, pricey stuff! Especially to this rookie’s eyeballs. If this seller were to go in on a scheme like this then he/she stands a lot to lose.

ebay, HA and others all have had colorful conversations on the boards about shenanigans. Good luck.

the only silver age  DC books more scarce although these are not keys are issues 2, 3 and 4 of "it's game time"very hard to find in anything above 4.0... first issue is more common though

Actually, impossible to find without all the puzzles filled in on the inside. I've had 2 of those in the past, but some kid ruined them by doing puzzles and drawings instead of putting them into mylars. If those are your copies, Congrats!

Since we're also adding scarce non-keys, I would also add New Adventures of Charlie Chan.

Seriously?  Are you sure it's  not just your reflection on the back of the slab?  :nyah:  Or are you making fun of a very, very special person.  :baiting:BTW, the best hair work EVER must be Ted Danson's?

Well, since my copy is raw, and I had to pull it out of the mylar to check the back, we'll go with very very special person, aka, astronaut, on the back.

I started with Harvey and Gold Key, then moved up to DC.  Didn't read a Marvel until 1968.  I got hooked on Spiderman in 1972.  And while Marvel is a better investment, I still enjoy picking up cheap DC back issues.  However, the main difference i see is that DC has realistic covers and stories.  Things that could actually happen, while Marvel covers and stories are just unbelievably ridiculous fantasy...as these DC examples will prove:

I rest my case.  DCs are much more believable than Marvels...:whatthe:   :insane:  :eyeroll:

Hey, no teenage angst with DC. Just real stories.

True story right here: I took my son, Chase, to his golf lessons while watching a YouTube focused on FF keys (he was holding the phone). Chase really likes Black Panther and FF 52 was being reviewed w/ favor. It’s now on my list! Now to my point: 10 minutes ago I spoke w/ my eldest daughter, Tessa, and she is a big Loki fan: Thanks to your post JIM 85 is now on my list too! I’ve joined GoCollect and find myself tooling through a Key Collector app, but your post was timely!

Either the budget for this effort will increase or I’ll settle for the lower grades. I’m not ready to pull triggers just yet as confidence is not yet there. Getting there though.

I never should have let my other copies go. I'm down to one left.
