  1. I don't think that is the case. I think the buyer bought it as a 9.4 hoping to get a 9.4 and decided later that it might be upgradable.

May have been the case for the buyer but there were many others that would have spotted it's potential and bid against him accordingly.

Anything advertised as unpressed, as the mound city books were, will be reviewed very carefully for potential.

Some were successful in getting upgrades after pressing others didn't.

  2. CGC just graded a 9.6! Wonder if this is an upgrade or a new copy? Also wonder if we'll see this auctioned off sometime soon...

    XMen_1_9-6.jpg

looks just like the mound city copy to me...former 9.4 (shrug)

Interesting how the market reacts to sales of books. If this is the Mound city book it only reached $106k because someone spotted it's potential as a 9.6.

However it's sale has been used as a benchmark and led to further 9.4 sales over 100k which were probaby not pressable into 9.6s.

  3. Hey! Here a PLOD question for the Tec zombie and restoe-nerd segment of the boardies:

Heritage has a Tec27 7.0 Mod (A) up for the comming auction. The last 7.0 sales have gone within the 50 K ballpark approx.. But these have all been (P) books as far as I can see.

    My questions:

    (i) How much will the (A) work hammer this current book compared to the formerly auctioned (P) copies of equal grade?

(ii) If it goes for around 50 K, - will that be a strong price? (considered the recent CC and Metro top sales)?

    50k would be a bargain.

MP 7.0s prior to the $1MM tec #27 sales were in the $75-85k range.

    Now? (shrug)

Whether its an A or a P the price will be dependent on how much and the type of work done that makes it a moderate book.

  4. OK well i really have to go to work right now so ill say some further stuff that happened real quick.

The new buyer sent me a PM saying he bought the book on the 18th and he was unaware of what was going on and he's sorry, Now i want to believe him and im trying but, the book appeared in his sig line up yesterday and thats 1 day after i was told theres something wrong with the book hmmmmm. Then i am told he paid $1500 for the book when i was paying $1600. So it appears either everyone thinks im very stupid or the seller just doesnt like money.I just checked all my PM's with the seller and talked with him originally on the i think 7th or 8th, and had the first payment on the 11th and within less than a week from that had the remainder of the balance.

There is absolutly no way I did anything wrong and I will be 10000% shocked if the seller can accuse me of anything exept being extremly exited about anything that has happened between us.

I will be home at 5 today i wish i could see whats gonna happen now but i cant, I will say who he is when i get back thanks

    more food for thought...and a new twist...wow

It doesn't seem so unreasonable that he'd put up a pic of his new comic ten days after "buying" it. If the deal was agreed upon on the 18th, maybe loot was sent on the 19th, comic shipped on the 20th or 21st, it's easy to see the second buyer not getting it until the 27th or 28th, then scanning it and getting it in his sig.

I'm definitely leaning towards condemning the seller, but not at all convinced that the second buyer did anything wrong. I hope not. :wishluck:

why would the seller sell it for less money than he had previously agreed a sale on?

Especially as the original buyer still wanted the book.

    Doesn't add up.

Doesn't look good for either the seller or the new buyer............

  6. Act
Heck, I'd have bid on it if I knew Gator wasn't.

Anything Gator doesn't bid on goes for a bargain.

    :insane:

I have changed my buying methods of late, which is why I haven't won anything

Actually this is my first pre Robin Tec that either George or Rick haven't owned

    :applause:

    :applause:

  7. Finally got this book, first purchase for the year and I'm really pleased :cloud9:

    lf-1.jpg

and at quite the bargain too, makes it doubly sweet :cloud9:

It was a bargain price, and you're right, it's doubly sweet

    Stunning book doc!

But, probably only you, gator and george would refer to an 8.5 pre-robin tec as being a bargain.

    lol

but it was a bargain lol

  8. Agreed! I think it will be soon be at least an 8.5. That 8.0 is about as good as I have seen...stronger than my 8.5 for sure so I already downloaded and saved the scan for future reference ;)

    (thumbs u

That's a big gamble. Maybe this flipper may make money and not loose like the others and especially some of the Mound City books.

doesn't nec have to be a flipper...could be some that just recognized potential... don't know, but whenever I see a book in common grade go way outside the norm, that is my immediately thought pattern these days.... "improvable"

There's a few 8.5 on CL...why not pay a little more and not take the risk for those copies. BTW, the 8.5 that sold recently is slightly faded or just not rich in color.

could be something about that copy, maybe the notes detailed a 1.0 jump... no way to know without asking both the winner and the underbidder, if we knew who they were (shrug)

    underbidder.

    Just liked it.

  9. This thread is killing me. I am in awe of these ASM collections (worship) (worship)... someday

Actually glad I have no scanner, better to enjoy the awesome sets than to muck things up with my low graders.

    Keep Posting! (thumbs u

nothing wrong with low grades (thumbs u

My best book is a 4.0.

    Yeah a 4.0 Tec #27 though :eyeroll:

    lol

  11. I don't have either but I always thought 35 was the toughie.

    (shrug)

no way..Gator has his scarcity index on multiple threads..everything appears in cycles, but 29 is definitely tougher than 35.
    (thumbs u

#29 rarer than #35 but as with everyything its a function of availability at any particular period of time.

The last comic I needed for my first 27-37 run was #35.
