I can certainly agree with Mitch's statement that Cap #1 will be the top Marvel book if it isn't so already.

We have discussed it before and I have always been in the camp that Cap #1 is the top Timely GA key book, just like AF #15 is the most important SA (and Timely/Atlas/Marvel overall).

Nah, I just don't buy this point of view at all.
Although Cap is a bigger name than either Subby or the Human Torch, he is still only a 2nd tier character at best and still not generally known in the public domain. All of this positive energy for Cap at the moment is just based upon the current movie hype.
Remember how "Tec #27 was able to overtake Action #1 for a short period of time due to all of the movie hype. When all was said and done, Action #1 took back its rightful place as the #1 book, even though Sups has not been as popular Bats over the past decade and more. If Cap can't overtake Marvel #1 with the current hype, I don's see how he is going to be able to do it over the long-run once the current movie hype dies back down.
In addition, Marvel Comics #1 came out in 1939 and Cap #1 came out much later in 1941 when comic books were already well established. That difference in time is much much more than a simple 2 years from a collecting point of view.

Page quality to some extent but Marvel chipping also has an impact on price.
GPA is a useful tool but one needs to be wary on keys as marvel chipping can have a detrimental effect on value regardless of a comics technical grade.

That is an odd assumption or translation of what happened. I feel a lot like Caira on this one, and I probably wouldn't have done what Michael did. But in Michael's defense, there are lot of books that I would like to have in 9.6 that I would have absolutely no interest in in 8.5. Why should he have to get something absolutely worthless to him just because it was donated?
If Beau insisted he keep the books, that is on Beau, not Michael. Chances are they could have been re-posted and someone else would have picked them up. No harm, no foul.

It seems that at the price paid he could have just moved the books on and he would have been made whole.
In that scenario there wasn't really much point complaining to the seller that he overgraded the books as he could adequately be made whole anyway and Beau has efffetively made a contribution twice the size he had initially intended.
Agree the Board does help where it can.

Maybe a big DC collector is cashing out, the lone 9.4 Flash 105 is also up (way too much wear for a 9.4)
It used to be a 9.2, and CGC should never have upgraded it to a 9.4, even after the book got cleaned.
Actually.. guess I was wrong, the 9.4 Flash 105 is a newly graded copy (along with the 9.0 Adventure 247). I guess it does make sense, CGC may have had their loose periods before but never as loose or soft as they are right now.

I remember seeing the SC4 9.2 auction on Ebay bidding up to the north of almost 80K with reserve not met over four years ago. I think selling earlier in the 80K at that time would prove a wise choice and there are better opportunities out there. Holding out for 100K make sense now. At least the SC4 9.2 is a better investment than investing in the housing sector at the peak. Now, the worst scenario is having either the 9.4 or 9.6 comes to the market with soft prices, then this will hurt the 9.2. A Flash movie might possibly change that though.

Based on that it is worth at least that amount. The CGC 9.6 sold for $180k or so, and the CGC 9.4 sold for $160k or so. The CGC 9.2, which is the next in line and none are close to it, is worth at least low six figures. I would bank on it.

I cracked 3 slabs recently - mid grade ASM #8 + ASM Ann #3 and a 1.8 MP FF#1 for my daughter's reading sets.
It does feel great to flick through the pages.
I think I have spent more on raw books in the last month than CGC books.

[/img] Speaking of getting #108 framed, I got the idea from Fantastic Thor to get some art framed next to the comic. I wouldn't want to cut up even reader copies, though...
Affording a page of original art is out of the question, but I bought the Splash page and page 2 production art transparencies--which I assume were used in the Journey Into Mystery Omnibus and Marvel Masterworks, since the original art was long gone:
I envision placing the two transparencies next to the pages from 2 reader copies, and then placing my graded copy of 108 by itself in a 3rd column, archival mat boards and framed with UV glass. If I had not gone on a recent buying spree, I'd have this project done already, but I've shelved it for awhile. No rush, once done, I expect to have it for years to come.
You would be surprised how little later art costs.

My scanner does not do this book justice. The colors on this book are so bright, they seem to be newsstand fresh.
A certain boardie, that I've known a very long time, was kind enough to sell me this marvelous book.
You can't see it in this scan, but on the left side of the cover, just above GL's cape is the remnants of the name LARSON, that some dimwit erased.
I"m thrilled to own the Larson copy of one of my favorite GA covers.
