  1. Honest question: How on earth did black flag add an acetate cover so that the edges line up perfectly with the book?

Comic book covers are folded and trimmed during production to ensure the edges are aligned with the interior, but these were added by some dude with a stapler.

Can you imagine trying to fold a sheet of plastic perfectly in half, staple it to an existing comic and have all the edges magically line up with the book/interior for a Mint 10.0 copy?

Funny you should mention it, I sent out 11 books Priority last weds, all were delivered but 3.  I checked tracking and those three said they never arrived at the facility.  Well I dropped them off at the facility, so I know that's wrong.  One of the buyers was pretty upset so I went down to the post office to ask what could have happened- the clerk checked the computer and said "they were probably never scanned, so they're probably out there somewhere, hopefully they'll show up".  Ha ha.  I've been shipping books Priority for years and never had any problem, so I'll keep using them, but after this I'm waiting in line and watching the clerk scan every book.  Lesson learned.  Potentially expensive one...

If your PO has one of those self service machines, they are a quicker way to check the books into the system with “proof” you dropped them off (receipt). I had the same thing happen to me and started using this machine - no problems since.

  3. I think this was my favorite show so far! And we’ve done a lot of shows!

I had so many great comic conversations with so many cool people. Darick Robertson was an absolute joy! The guy has just been killing it in comics, and his creation ‘The Boys’ is dominating Amazon, but somehow he’s the friendliest guy you’ve ever met. We gave away a bunch of Darick books, and Harv Doss donated six CGC graded books, which we also gave away today - there were a bunch of stoked comic book collectors!

@The Brain was in charge of the parking lot as usual (thank you my friend!), and Darick did a killer Spider Jerusalem head sketch on his ‘comic art jam’ T-Shirt.

I picked up a super nice set of Planet of the Apes magazine 1-3 from Ian, and am very excited about that.

Thanks to all the dealers, the shops that pass out our fliers, and especially everyone who attended! Marc and I appreciate you.

That just seems insane to me, that sellers give basically one-sixth of their proceeds to da'Bay, right off the top.  I don't see how anyone ever makes any money, other than by landing a fish on an overpriced hook every once in a while.

If you compare it to having a retail space, which you would probably need to get the same traffic, it’s much cheaper. No rent, insurance, power bill, trash bill, etc.

That said, the fees are painful.

When did that change?  Or was it always like that?  I remember the days of people selling $.99 cent items but $25 shipping and I assumed that was to get around fees.

Not sure, but at least a year.

I just sold an item for $200 plus $20 shipping.

    Standard fee was 12.9% = $28.38 ($220 x 12.9%)

Because it was an international sale, there was an additional 1.65% fee of $3.63 ($220 x 1.65%)

Plus the fixed .30 final value fee per item.

I think the apps (whatnot) will save dealers and vendors at cons.  The last two cons I sold at wonderCon and comic con revolution if I didn’t have the whatnot app I would of lost money . Covid and everything else that is going on the crowds will be down this year.  I saw the Philly show it look like wondecon no one there . So selling apps will play a big part in people making money when crowds are down.

I’m curious, how did you make money using whatnot at the shows? Were you doing auctions during the show? Selling items you have at the show, or items back home? Selling to people at the show, or at home? Do you have a dedicated person for whatnot, and another for ‘in person’ sales? Thanks!

There is also a Captain America Hot Wheels stunt set but in 10+ years of looking I’ve never seen one for sale (I am in UK which limits my buying market).

Oh wow, I’ve never heard of or seen the Cap set. Do you know it exists?
