  1. Great copy. It is my opinion that the Whitman version of this book was much more plentiful than the regular version. I had a harder time finding the regular version in High Grade.
  2. More fun facts. Many of you may have seen the two Oz Treasuries - the first a DC/Marvel Production, the second Marvel alone. There was a third book planned that was never printed! Here is the cover by John Buscema (thanks to sorcerorsskull.blogspot.com for the image and story).
  3. Right!? I'm surprised neither of us had seen it before Marc!
  4. Come on - somebody help me out A couple more oddities.
  5. I had the opportunity to pick up a few Don Rosa Treasuries from Steve Wyatt a long time ago - thanks Steve! I had never seen a Treasury with a Pedigree before (or since now that I think about it). They are stunning examples.
  6. Here are the In-Store retail posters for both Superman/Spider-Man books. This one is framed on my wall. The 'window-facing' stickers are still on the piece, under the frame. This one I haven't framed yet - still in shrink wrap!
  7. And Paperback versions (anyone seen any other paperback Treasury reprints?). Backs:
  8. Here are some more fun ones: Hanna Barbera #1-3. Tough to find in grade.
  9. Those are nice! I think you have most of the Marvels, unless someone else can confirm the other Whitmans on the treasury comics.com list. Check this out:
  10. Thanks so much Sharon! I'd love to see any cool ones that you find.
  11. Yep! So you have at least two. Both sweet copies!
  12. Nice! I'll change the thread title to remove Whitman, maybe more people can contribute? I love how they didn't use the Marvel trade ads, but had to do something completely different with the ads. Maybe the U.S. style was just too bombastic?
  13. Apparently, Ali didn't like the Kubert version, so Neal Adams redrew the cover. From the looks of it - Ali and his friends liked the Adams version! I wonder if Kubert was originally supposed to draw the interior, or if Adams was always going to do it?
  14. And since you posted this one - have you all ever seen this before? Key Comics was selling it on eBay not too long ago. I had never heard of this before, but it's cool! Joe Kubert drew the first, rejected, unpublished version of the cover to this Treasury! Thanks to eBay and Key Comics for the images.
  15. Well thanks for letting me know. I'm thinking most people are probably in the same boat.
  16. I feel like it's all or nothing - I should either leave it in its complete, original packaging, or open it all up and fold the display - ready for the shelf. The box has been held together like this for 40 years while hundreds of others have disintegrated - it must be working. I am tempted to open it though!
  17. Thanks Jeffro! Have you ever seen any similar boxes/displays for other Marvel Treasuries?
  18. Never seen this in all my years of collecting, out of all the comic related stuff I have seen before, this is one of the coolest, how many copies are in the display? Thanks! The display originally came with 24 copies, just like the Star Wars shipper, but when I bought this it only came with one copy. I placed several copies underneath when I took the picture so it would look full.
  19. I love that one too! That's a lovely copy! I have a copy of each (DC and Whitman) and, even with copies going for $500 after Ali passed. I couldn't bring myself to sell either.
  20. This one isn't a Whitman, but comes from Modern Comics. I've always understood that these are the same folks who published Charlton reprints with a blue and white Modern logo, and sold them in packs. That is helpful, thanks. I wonder why Marvel would have Whitman distribute some, and Modern Comics distribute others during the same time period? Any idea what the 'MP' logo over the price stands for? Modern Promotions... they did indeed do the Charlton reprints in the late 70's and the some Archie Giant-Size issues as well. Here is a link to an Archie with Modern Promotions info on the back cover. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Archie-All-Star-Special-1975-Giant-Spectacular-Comics-160-page-1st-Prt-GD-VG-/401133121041?hash=item5d6565ae11:g:NeMAAOSw1S9WgXPe Got it - thanks very much.
  21. Another image from the Internet of the Star Wars display put together. They look so cool put together I'm tempted to open mine up
  22. Here is an original sell sheet for back issues. No mention of the cool counter display, and no mention of Whitman, but maybe the displays only came with initial shipments? Plus this is probably consumer facing rather than a retail sell sheet.
