  1. Thanks Barton! Coming from you that means a lot.
  2. That's a pretty cool find !! That is absolutely wild--have never seen that in 40 years of collection. My guess is this is missing the W because it's pre-direct version. Marvel may have sold them as direct copies at a reduced rate but I'm fairly certain they did not have specific versions for direct channels. Makes you wonder how many of the early treasuries were sold this way. Yeah I was stoked to find it. I made an offer, waited about one minute, then hit the BIN Well it looks like they made at least a Pence copy and a Cents copy of this one (#1), but I have never seen or heard of a Whitman version of it. I would be really excited if more versions of the counter display came out of the woodwork!
  3. This one isn't a Whitman, but comes from Modern Comics. I've always understood that these are the same folks who published Charlton reprints with a blue and white Modern logo, and sold them in packs. That is helpful, thanks. I wonder why Marvel would have Whitman distribute some, and Modern Comics distribute others during the same time period? Any idea what the 'MP' logo over the price stands for?
  4. Thanks. I haven't been as excited about something comic related in a long time. It makes me wonder if there are others for different treasuries. Have you ever seen this one or any other before?
  5. I wonder why the regular version of Close Encounters Treasury is Marvel Special Edition #3, and the Whitman is Marvel Special Edition #1?
  6. Here's one I probably shouldn't talk about because I don't have it yet, but whatever. Close Encounters of the Third Kind. But the Whitman version of this book is actually the ubiquitous one. The regular version is impossible to find. I have only ever seen one (never held one). This image is from the auction I lost. I made the guy an offer while it sold.
  7. Here's an ad for the Pence version of #1 (thanks again treasurycomics.com). Since they were doing different versions anyway, I wonder why they didn't do a Whitman logo version?
  8. I am super, super excited about this piece I picked up recently - I have never seen another like it. The 'W' logo on the display also makes me think Whitman had more to do with these books than I originally thought. I assumed if it didn't have a W logo version of the book then Whitman didn't touch it, but it appears they did, even from the beginning (#1)? Has anybody else seen a counter display like this for books other than this and Star Wars? I seem to have a blurry memory of seeing one for Superman/Ali, but it may have been a dream.
  9. Here's another Whitman version - at least I think it is? Doesn't have the 'W' logo. 'MP'? Maybe RMA or one of the other experts can comment.
  10. These are cool - some of the 'shippers' for the Star Wars Treasuries were printed on the inside so that the case could be used as a counter display. Here are some images I pulled from the Internet. It looks like there were two versions. This one is mine.
  11. Of course people are probably most aware of the Whitman versions of the Star Wars Treasuries. #1 #2 #3 (Collects #1 + #2)
  12. Here are the books from this run that I have, and can confirm exist: #18 #23 #24
  13. Hi Everyone, This originally started out as a Whitman themed Treasury thread, but evolved into an 'All things Bronze Treasuries' Thread. So please feel free to participate with any Bronze Age Treasuries. This is the original post: Hi Everyone, I collect all of the Marvel Treasury books, but have recently been fixated on the Whitman versions. I am attempting to confirm which actually exist. Treasurycomics.com, a great resource for information, shows this graphic, but many of these (shown as having Whitman editions) I have never seen (and I look every day). Can anyone confirm that all of these books exist? Thanks. Tim
  14. Ridiculous haul! Wow I'm a little jealous I'll admit. Nice work.
  15. Never seen those Dennis the Menace books. Those are great.
  16. Never noticed that, but you are definitely on to something. Cool.
  17. Here's my #4 in a CGC slab. And another in a Multi-Mags bag.
