  1. Nice one Frankie!! A notoriously difficult book coupled with the movie hype has made it all the hotter.
  2. Looks like the same seller has both a TTA #1 4.5 and a TOS #1 5.5 on ebay now. He has a $500 starting bid on both which is about FMV on the TTA and below for the TOS.
  3. IMO, both the feel of the books and the Atlas roster of titles, and the Atlas staff (kirby/ditko as mentioned) changed significantly in Jan 1959. All of the "first pre hero" (as I define it) books mentioned above are Jan 59 dated, plus or minus a week or two. Books prior to that I think of as "post-code" rather than "pre hero". It more or less boils down to the maneely/everett vs kirby/ditko eras, though there is more to it than that IMO. Sad story though it is, I think Joe Maneely getting hit by a bus in mid 58 must have been a terrific shake up to the Atlas office and the Atlas product. I have to guess that was one of the unintended reasons for the change in direction. As a company they lost their most profilic employee in mid 58 and then three or four months later in fall 58 they are putting out these Jan 59 dated books... I hear Joe Maneely was pushed! Oh and if it doesn't have Kirby and Ditko doing the majority of the art, its not the prehero books that I'm interested in.
  4. Nice books Art!! BTW, page 500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (thumbs u
  5. Wow, killer score!! What did the ebay seller have it raw graded at 9.8, ?
  6. www.ha.com ..... GOD BLESS.... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u P.S. It was an 8.5 with LOADS of eye appeal I took a shot at it. Not even close. My 7.5, also from Heritage, is looking like a big time bargain.
  7. I could not agree with you guys more. The 50's of Jim are tough. I was elated to have the highest CGC'd 54 for awhile then the 9.2 pedigree showed up a year later. Love this issue. I could have sworn it would have come back a higher grade but I am always happy with 8.0's. ...... It's a bear to find without chipping.... GOD BLESS.... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u Nice copy!
  8. Wow, those first 3 books are so tough you can't even get pictures of them!!!!
  9. Volatile is definitely the word here. Intellectually I like your range concept, but my pocket doth protest!!!!!
  10. Dan- Using your examples for comparison only supports my observation. That JIM #52 8.0 copy is the second highest graded copy and "only" sold for $1016 whereas the second highest graded JIM #51 of which there are 3 at 8.5 garnered $2200+ last night. Big difference. That JIM#54 7.5 went for crazy money IMHO, but only has 2 books higher. We've seen similar head scratching sales which tells us there's a few collectors out there for whom money is no object. Those sales are not FMV IMHO. There's tremendous inconsistency. Do you remember the relative pittance you paid for that TTA WM 9.4 within the last year or so? Is that FMV? WE WISH it was!!! And your last example speaks for itself.
  11. I find those prices very strong. I know they were both either best or 2nd best copies, but similar cases from other prehero titles haven't garnered anything like those multiples of price relative to grade. The seller, Heritage or otherwise, should be elated with those results. To me those are both 30% or more above FMV.
  12. Sharp copy Bob, congrats!!! (thumbs u Bob is not getting nearly enough love for this gorgeous book!!!!!
  13. Sharp copy Bob, congrats!!! (thumbs u
  14. Nice one Tom!! Name game I go with Tree Fiddy.
  15. Thanks guys! Feels great to have a piece of such a great and personally important story in my hands. Takes my right back to the late '70s and reading it for the first time.
  16. Thanks, its all about those great memories!! A combination of KS, the Dark Phoenix Saga, the first 11 issues of the Micronauts and ASM #121 and 122 made me a comics fan for life!! To hold a page from 1 of those legendary tales that so fascinated and expanded my imagination as a kid is just wonderful. I could see buying more..........
  17. I'm not a big OA collector, but when I saw this, I had to have it!! Avengers #168 p15 by the great George Perez and part of the immortal Korvac Saga storyline. Never saw a page of it for sale before and just fell in love. You may have gathered from my boardie name that I like this particular story. I could see buying more!!
  18. I'm saving all my money for TTA #1/2 the Proto prototype ish!!
