I guess I'm not experienced enough to tell the difference between a 1/4" indentation and a 2/8" indentation.
Mainly because 2/8 = 1/4
There are also some more creases on spine and corners are blunted , back is pretty dirty. 7.0 as is ..CP might raise it all the way to 8.0

#27 is 1st printing.
#89 is a reprint.
Both have same stories.
FYI, 3.5 for this copy if both cover and centerfold are firmly attached at both staples.
Yeah, I figured it was a reprint but nothing on cover , or at auction I saw it at said anything about reprint.
Cover and centerfold are well attached.

Too bad about that corner crease
9/6 or 9.8 without it. As is 9.2 maybe 9.4.

I don't think this is a 6.0 ....I'm going to say 5.5 but what do I know ...
p.s. I remember those days of chasing a title...it's a lot of fun but a massive amount of work ...these days. Just because you want the best price and best condition and you have to be very careful and not jump the gun. Above all you have to be very patient.
Yes, it is a lot of effort ..and restraint when something you really want goes way over what you think is worth.
Anyway it was advertised as a 5.0 So I did okay!

The chunk out of the back cover is obviously going to be the major factor driving this grade. The book looks pretty five-ish otherwise, but I can't imagine it grading higher than a 3.0 with that kind of a piece missing, plus the large vertical scratch/crease on the front cover.
Yeah that brings it down....

Recent one from auction. I think I got a bargain. Staples amazingly tight for such an old book. What looks like a small piece out or blunting at bottom left BC corner is actually a little extra original paper on corner folded up. I think that's a production error, so no defect?
Anyway thanks. I got X-Men 7,8 then 10 through 30. Got to get that 9! Then work back from 6. Maybe I can get to 1 if I sell my car or house!

Spine ticks are mostly not color breaking(CB), but are deep creases, which is better. There is "scuffing or color rub in a few areas on the front cover and a small dogear on the back cover" Plus back is fairly soiled. I'd say as-is 6.5 tops; but press may get rid of those deep creases and clean make the back cleaner. Then you can get a 7.5 I think.

No John T. NO SPINE SPLIT! Well attached to both staples and no tears at all.
The answer is 7.0.. so you were all right on or very close. I tried for a Wings Comics No.1 with Heritage Sunday, but it went a bit over my maximum.

Anyone else before I tell as offered?

and who is this other company ..PGX?
Very hard to tell from the pictures for a grade. I can only see a few defects: 1) some spine tics but not major, 2) a bit of corner blunting, 3) back looks rather dirty, 4) MAY BE a tear at top staple on back, but might just be a crease or smudge - I cant tell!
Without better pics I think it could be anywhere from 6.0 to even 8.0!

Given its a golden Oldie..I'd say 5.0/5.5
-
Got to be trimmed..might get an restored 2.0 tops

a couple tics on spine, some corner blunting and back appears a bit soiled, so 9.2

Hmm, I was thinking 3.0 until I saw the big spine tear..then a 2.0 tops.
If tape is applied on inside to hold cover on (which you should probably do anyway or you are going to "lose" whole cover!) will that increase grade since tape is accepted to preserve the comic?
PGM Amazing Spider-Man Annual #5 1968
in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
