  1. A large lot of Spider Man annuals. Better photos will be provided when I have the books and non wavy bags. Amazing Spider-man Annuals Lot Plus Giant Sized. Included are annuals 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 28, 1996, 1997, 1999, spectacular annual 1, giant size 1, 2, 3, 5. U.S. shipping is on me. I will cover the first $20 for foreign shipments.
  2. While not definitive when 50% of your bids are with one seller, it sure does look like shill bidding.
  3. Spaceship blasting building to spaceship issuing ultimatum.
  4. Recently ventured over to Dreamhaven books, our local goldmine of PB's and also offering a pretty extensive lineup of pulp magazines. I had been looking for an early 'Sumuru" title to go along with the one I have. Alas no luck, so I switched focus and picked up this 63 edition of 'Shadow of Fu Manchu' instead. I also obtained 'Q as in Quicksand' by Treat, and it's a map back cover as well. Further adding to the mystery stash I added 'Drury Lane's Last Case' by Ellery Queen. As an added bonus the clues are highlighted on the back cover. This copy of the 1949 version of H. W. Roden's "Too busy to die", originally published in 1944 also grabbed my attention. The front cover presents nicely but it has a piece out of the back cover.
  5. From May of 62 (and a books that's impossible to top) to May of 62
  6. 8 copies on the census, with 1 restored copy for a total of 9.
  7. I finally have a book with the current month. It was bound to happen sometime.
  8. Just in this 1940 issue of Astounding with stories by some of my favorite sci-fi writers, including L. Sprague De camp, Lester Del Ray, and Clifford Simak.
  9. Recently acquired the February 1939 issue of Weird Tales, to go along with the digest sized issue I picked up last year.
  10. The flash #81 book's tear by the staple is about 1/2 inch long. I was slightly disappointed in the grade though. A highly regarded seller (who I will not mention) had it graded at 6.5, which I thought was too high given the damage to the lower left hand corner. However it was priced fairly.
  11. I recall when fine really was fine. I picked up this book at a con back in the early 2000's. It was graded as fine by the seller.
  12. For the past few years I have maintained an Xcel sheet of books that may be candidates for submitting to CGC. Below is a portion of that chart for just the 8 books in the contest, with my grade estimates and the actual grades received. The most pleasant surprise was the grade received by Detective Comics #189 & it was an LCS find.
  13. Looking over the final grade distribution chart I found the following. Captain Midnight #43 was the easiest to grade with 12 contestants nailing the correct grade. Detective Comics #279 posed the most difficult challenge with only 3 contestants coming up with the right grade. All books except for World of Fantasy #17 & Captain Midnight #43 had more guesses below the actual grade received than above. For those two books, there was an equal number of grades above and below the actual grade. Before starting the contest I wondered if it might be too easy, given that all but one book had grades in the range of 5 to 6.5 Thanks to all who participated, it made this contest a very enjoyable experience.
