    X-men 1 - July 2, 1963 X-men 2 - Sept 3, 1963 TOS 49 - Oct 8, 1963 X-men 3/Avengers 3 - Nov 3, 1963 These are approximate newsstand dates. Going by these dates, X-men 3/Avengers 3 would tie for the 4th app of the X-men in comics.

    About half of all my 7-11 comics from the early 1980s are also direct copies, which is really odd. I contacted Steve Geppi about this a few years ago and basically he said that since the direct market was in it's infancy in 1979, some newsstand retailers had a mix of direct/newsstand copies. I think my 7-11 owner had a family member/friend that owned another store and they would rotate unsold direct comics.
