Show me your Timely's and I'll show you mine. Have a Cigar...

I have never gotten around to sending this book to CGC, but it sure is sweet. It's fun to look through too. -
Another riveting book from Fiction House!

Thanks, Arex. Hope to see you in December.

Journey Into Mystery Appreciation Thread

My JIM collecting interest lies in issues from #83 to 104, so I know these can get expensive in HG. My pocketbook usually allows me to stay in the ballpark with grades in the 8.5-9.0 range. Do you see this as "high grade" for these issues? Or, do you consider anything under 9.2 for these early issues as common and undesirable for a high grade collection? I know it's probably just one's own personal opinion, but what is you guys opinion if you don't mind me asking. -

Is it just my imagination, or has JIM cooled off quite a bit? This is one of my favorite issues. -
I like the Plastic Man also. PM had some pretty dumb covers over the years, but the sci-fi issues were pretty nice. Here's another that I like.

Keeping this thread going...this has always been one of my favorite early FF's.

Beautiful books!!! (thumbs u I really like the #15 and #23. -
Another Flash from my collection. This is the highest graded copy and very sweet. One of my favorite Shelly Hawkman covers along with the #31 (anybody have a HG copy they want to get rid of, let me know ) I'm wondering if there is a Mile High or SF copy out there that is not slabbed. With the recent Flash auctions on Heritage, I thought one would show up. Is there any chance that there is not a Mile High, SF or other high grade pedigree? Kinda seems unlikely, but I would have thought one would have surfaced by now. Does anyone know if these exist?

Green logo background, dynamic Schomburg "big 3" war cover and a Red Skull appearance If ever buy an All-Select this would be the one. I'm with you, this is my Fav AS issue (#1 is a close "2nd") me three; the depiction of the 3 stars about equal on the as 1 and 2, but i find the bridge setting more intriguing than the castle. good observations guys..it's making me want to pull out my books and geek a little... Just some beautiful Schomburg goodness!!! I love the cover on the AS 2. Schomburg's weird perspective is so neat. I mean, how big does Subby have to be to tear down that bridge. So much going on. I could geek at this cover for hours!! Great posts fellows. I believe Schomburg was making a political statement by drawing Cap, Subby, Torch extra LARGE to say that the USA would overcome... (thumbs u don't mention the "p" word, even here in GA, or you might get your wrist slapped -
I picked this pretty book up not long ago. A lot of the "Flash" Flash covers are pretty corny. But this is one of my favorites. This is the third best copy (behind the 9.4 Mile High and the 9.2 San Francisco copies). Beautifully centered, with great colors and no markings, I feel pretty good about this one.

I posted this one in the FH thread a while back, but it's such a pretty book, I thought it should be given another look. Great Baker art inside also.

Beautiful book! One of my favorite Schromburg covers and one of my "grail" books that I hope to own someday. All-Select, All-Winners and USA had some really great covers. Unfortunately. you don't see many of these out there. Are they really THAT scarce? I'm thinking "yes". I can't remember when I saw an All Winners #7, 9 or 13 and on and on, for sale. And what about USA #6, 7, 10, 13, etc? Are there any out there? The census is very bare of those books. If anyone has any of these, I'd love to see them posted. -

I don't know. I'm thinking in the 6.5 or so range. What do you think? -
I just had to post this beautiful book. I'm not too big into Fawcetts (I like them, but just so much other stuff to collect), but when I saw this beauty, I just had to add it to my GA collection. Highest graded (next highest graded copy is a 6.0) and a Church book. You just can't go wrong. The colors on this book are just spectacular, as you might expect from a Mile High book.

Since "Because they are better" isn't a good enough answer I guess we are going to have to do some research and get some scientists in here to give us a long dissertation on the relative merits of comparative paper compositions, ink degradation, and subliminal artistic implications. Until then I will go with..."Because they are better". yeah, what he said Me too. (thumbs u BTW, a little late in replying, but thanks for the replies on my "slightly restored" HT #17. I am ok with it, and basically got it through trading a bunch of my mid-grade Silver Age books. I do feel better hearing your replies. Thanks again — Rick -

I submitted this book back in the summer and it came back PLOD "Cover Cleaned". I was wondering what you guys thought about books with this amount of restoration. No pieces added, tear seals, etc., but still purple. Do you keep restored books in your collection? Is "cover cleaned" considered a little resto? Or, is restored is restored is restored? How much does this affect the value of the the book when you go to sell it? I'm not necessarily looking to sell, but may decide to return it to the seller. It is still such a pretty book, and actually looks better than 7.5. Does the restoration bring down the overall grade? Please give me your opinions. Thanks — Rick
