  1. Still on this huh. I don't have a problem with any of the sites formats. I snipe at the last second. I don't even look at the item until the last minute. Something that might be a good deal 2 days or 2 hours before end can already be maxed out at end of auction. I put in my max bid and that's it. I win or don't. Nothing is going to temp me to over pay. The last highest bid is the only one that matters so I only put in a single bid. Heritage can have a 50% or 80 % buyer fee. Just part of the price. Long as they make it clear which they do. If anything with heritage or comic connect format it allows the losing bidders to run you guys up more. Ok so my max wasn't enough. I will put in a few more bids, if I win it I can live with that price but most likely I will just run this guy up, he can have this book but gonna make him pay for it.
  2. Omg no, too much work. Much easier to just say if it is new news then thank you for it.
  3. I hear ya. I been surprised many times that way. Just want to try my hand at picking winners on these new books. A hobby within the hobby. I don't want to buy a new issue unless it has 1st appearance or something. Even though I might like it, I buy a lot of collections so in 5 to 10 years I will get the books for pennies on the dollar. For older stuff, I bought what I liked, it went crazy in price and I sold it. So what I like is expensive. If it ever comes down I will buy it. I still buy old books all the time, not sure if I will like it or not because I never owned it as a kid but fun to try out. Had some success. I love the speculation part though. Watched some YouTube videos, all terrible recommendations for the most part, but was entertaining background noise. A few ok speculation books, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile. Used to be some good sites, they seemed to have closed down.
  4. Surprising. You seem to be in the know with new books. I figured you was one of those people haha. I hate the new books. Just change the color, gender, race of something and it's a hot book. But I keep seeing all these missed opportunities for a easy $30 with a $4 investment. Meanwhile I been stock piling $20 $60 $250 whatever silver and bronze. I used to just stockpile brand new books if new character looked promising but now freaking anything can be popular.
  5. Haven't messed with new comics for a few years. Used to be a site that told you in one article the 1st appearances coming out this week and another article with the hot covers. I thought it was comicbookinvest but looking at it now it seems to have changed and not be as good so maybe it was another site. I know about previews world. So any other sites? YouTube videos? Does Littledoom send out a newsletter? Also any good spec sites?
  6. I love the ebay sellers. Love the buyers even more. I dunno who buys this stuff but glad they do. There are a lot of nice silver and bronze books I can buy for $40. Heck even 2,3,4, or 5. My super close shop closed couple years back so now it's out of my way to get to a shop. I don't have a pull list so only reason to go to shop would be to buy these 1st Appearances. Probably should make the trip or order online. I missed out on yellow hulk, immortal hulk, shemale hulk, weapon x hulk, major x, star, both thor 2, batman who laughs, batman who farts, anything the past 2 years or so. I am sure purple hulk and blue hulk will be just as hot if they don't already exist.
  7. A friend of a friend of a friend had his entire collection destroyed buy a pack of wild feral cats. Till this day, just seeing a photo of a cat causes a nervous breakdown.
  8. It's been hot for at least 90 days. 1st I am hearing about it. So if you are the 1st to report on it this thread is pretty pathetic. But thank you. This is news to me.
  9. Way to go. The postage savings will pay for the printer.
  10. You are right. Comics can be good investments. But most people are clueless. If you don't agree you might be one of them. I see what people are buying, post on here, YouTube videos. Its cringe worthy. They are going to lose $. Their book went up 10 or 15 percent in 5 years while just the S&P alone did better each year. Going to lose 10% at least when they sell that book. Not maxing out their 401, buying their books on credit. Name books that one could buy now and in the next 2 to 4 years that will increase enough in value to be a good investment? I will probably shoot them down. Personally I don't have a answer. 10 years ago I could name dozens. Even 5 years ago.
  11. Things get lost in translation. When I said comics have done nothing but gone up I was talking about keys. My brain doesn't even factor in people buying non keys. And when I actually bought keys it wasn't for an investment. I seen in catalogs first Spider-man, I want this for Christmas. Got a lil $ I bought comics. It wasn't a uncool thing in my neighborhood. Heck I think we played with gi joes until we were old enough to get drivers driver's license. If someone was key hunting prior to 1990 or so they are a millionaire just because of comics. Someone just starting now will probably lose $. If they become good at it, they will make some supplemental income. If they become a master like myself haha they can make a living doing it but would of done better investing elsewhere.
  12. Just because something is old doesn't make it valuable unless it is super old. Most estate sales people will make sure they have someone in the house first to buy anything the owner doesn't know they value of and then sell it for more elsewhere and get the full price instead of just a cut. But yeah, old furniture might look great but if it is common it has little value. A lot of people don't have the vehicle or man power to get it home. I have a desk fetish. Or anything with cabinets or drawers. Although sofas can command a lot of money. Victorian era made in England France. I stick to wood.
  13. You can do whatever you like. I personally sold numerous books for 4 and 5 figures that I paid 2 or 3 figures for. I was happy with that return and enjoyed owning them. I have a hundred thousand comic books worth $5 are less. So you are 100% right. They weren't a good investment. I didn't buy them for an investment though. Most were free, from a house clean out or storage auction win. A lot of them just came with the handful of books I wanted to purchase. So yeah 99.9% of comics are a terrible investment.
  14. Too find a deal at an estate sale would require both the owners and auctioneers/sale runners to not know about the item. Not likely to happen on a 300 year old piece of furniture worth tens of thousands.
  15. They always did go easy on foxing and tanning. Would have 9.6s with it and they would have been 9.6 without it. Way to easy imo. I hate both. Someone said they are now taken more seriously. I dunno. I dont slab a book unless it is 9.8 or has printing defects. Haven't noticed it on books I have purchased. They may now recently grade it tougher, I dunno.
  16. Only thing with heritage I find a lot of stuff doesn't sell for the 20% less. So they know what they are doing. Sure a lot of things are rare. But even common stuff gets good prices. I am a bargain hunter though. Only buy spec books. So if. And big if because it doesn't happen often say a hulk 181 or af 15 that is worth 10 grand goes for 6 or 7 grand I would buy it to flip instantly. But 8,500 wouldn't interest me but to others they would be posting about their huge deal they got. Yeah I don't buy too many hot books.
  17. That's the best way to price a item. What something sold for on the foremost online comic selling platform that has easy to look up sales results that is a known brand. I find cons and shops to ask over fmv. If they did ask the same it is fair for a customer. If price is same it is the same.
  18. I understand. Just Ebay I am paying the price. Heritage I am paying the same price but only 80% is actual price of book. 20 % their fee. As a buyer I have no problem with it. They can have a 90% buyer premium. I would just bid $10. Sellers though it isn't equal. Ebay seller would get $87 Heritage $70 to $80 depending on their collection and if the negotiated.
  19. Only talking about the buyer. And if I buy on ebay I pay no buyer premium. Heritage I would so I have to take 20% off my max bid. If I buy local or social media I can pay over max bid.
  20. For me isn't local or repeat customers. Then Facebook Instagram etc. If I had to use 3rd party then ebay or mycomicshop comic link connect. Would never use heritage when the entire forum states they avoid it or pay 20 percent less.
  21. Seller pays those fees though. Heritage the buyers pays the %20. On heritage I would take 20% off of my max bid. Ebay I would go to max.
  22. They can be an investment. I am not knowledgeable about them. In a related story. I love antique furniture. I have a lot of pieces in my house that I bought because they are awesome as the main reason but 2 the value plummeted on them and they were cheap. I have them because I love them, but they are also an investment. The value can only go up. May never go up. But you make a terrible weak point with your beanie babies and such. I like your post normally but with a spin like that you should be running for office or hosting a news show. Comparing flash in the pan here today gone tomorrow things to something that has been around for 80 plus years and has only increased in value ( what are you going to do next, cherry pick some books from the 80s and 90s that were hundred dollar books that are now nothing? Go ahead) isnt much of a comparison. Sure they can decrease in value, but to compare them to pogs is a joke. Weak
  23. I never claimed it was the best investment. Just that it is an investment and the safest one that I know of. The stock market has been amazing for me. Nothing else comes close. No sure things there though. I bought as much silver and gold as I could when it was low. I knew I wouldn't lose $ on it. Knew it would go up but didn't know when or how much. When I seen what tales 39 did with iron man movie and knew avengers were coming it was a no brainer. My comics have never decreased in value. A lot of antiques and collectibles plummeted when internet became relevant. Not comics. It was a good investment for me because it was safe sure thing. Characters either would show up in a movie and I would make bank or worst case scenario I sell for a small profit. Now in 2020 is it still an investment? Sure. Is it still safe? Yes. Is it one of the better investments? No. Most the characters you would expect to show up have. A lot of likely ones have already been speculated on that if they do show up the reward won't be that impressive. Its been rewarding for me. Some books I would have liked to of hold onto as a collector but the $ was just so good it didn't make sense. I love comics but not as much as making $. And can always buy them back down the road. If you can care less about comics then find something else to invest it. They were a good option. They aren't now. Can still make $ with it but your $ will be tied up longer so it doesn't make sense. It is still a hobby that makes $ so if you like comics it's a good hobby.
