  1. Of all the marvel reprints from the era, I'd say that book, along with the SMF books are the scarcest. In any grade. I believe they only printed a few thousand of the pressman books, and that one in particular was a send-away issue. It's unlikely many people sent in for the comic. That makes it way more difficult to locate than the other three.
  2. Used to be. Board member now owns it. It is a really striking book. As easy a 9.8 you could ever get. Only a tiny bindery flaw kept it out of a 9.9 range, in my opinion.
  3. I foresee a large price decrease in the future. It's a great book, but yes, there will be many more 9.8's. In the case of ASM 300, there's over 8000 graded to get those 542 9.8's. If there were 8000 BA12's graded, I'm going to assume there would be far more than that 542.
  4. Are these still the agreed upon definitions for scarce, rare, and very rare? scarce - fewer than 100 copies estimated to exist rare - 10-20 known copies very rare - fewer than 10 copies I can agree 9.8 copies are scarce, for now. I wouldn't use those traditional terms for CGC graded books. Raw wise, there's decent numbers of even the later printings. Go Patriots! &$@% Omaha!
  5. Of course they're scarce, particularly in HG. I think that's undisputed. That's because no collector gave a ratz azz about later printings at the time. I seriously don't think the prices on later prints will hold up for any length of time. In 9.8? Of course. But 9.8s don't fall off of trees (unless it's BA 12 . . . ) Agree. Like most books of the time period, anything less than a 9.8 isn't going to hold its value, except for a few exceptions.
  6. Those beautiful comics with that ugly hat! j/k +1 Not kidding Go Chargers. Chargers disappointed me. Being a lifelong Patriot fan, I get nervous around this time. I just hope manning folds, as he usually does, when Brady is on the other side. I'm a Pats fan too, we should go see a Pats game together and we can talk comics in between plays Brady is 7-0 against a Del Rio defense FYI. I have a bad feeling about this game, unless Blount gets it going. At least it's not f'ing Eli he's up against. No one really cares about the first game . . . It doesn't matter who comes in second at the end. You must be referring to the Negligible Football Conference?
  7. What will be surprising (and exciting) is when someone lands a 10.0 ASM 300. That is going to be one hot book to watch close at an auction. Where New Mutants 98 CGC 10.0 ended in the $16K range, an ASM 300 CGC 10.0 could be an $18K-$20K auction. $20K would be what I'd guess. Probably more, not less than that. I just can't imagine there being one because of the condition issues.

  9. I keep seeing a 9.8 third print for #18 on eBay being re-listed, the price has gone down a bit but it's still over $200. I have to say it's tempting, but I don't think I can bring myself to spend that kind of money. Maybe we'll look back on this several months from now and think that was a bargain. That's probably mine. I just keep it at that price, in case it catches fire with a movie announcement. It's uncommon enough to where I don't mind if I don't sell it immediately. I'd sell for less, here.

  11. I wouldn't say "rare", but the 3rd-5th prints in 9.8 are scarce, and will continue to be, if this movie business happens.
  12. It is a beautiful book, but I'm a bit mystified in the high prices for 9.8's. They've fallen a little over the past few months, but they're still very popular. It's in no way, shape or form, as condition sensitive as the OG.
  13. That's only because Copper Age books represent the perfect storm between massive HG availability and CGC prices realized.
  14. Yeah. I don't get those. Especially the restored 2.0 shown. But look at Greg's Top 20 CGC Submission list. 12 of the top 20 are copper books.
  15. Iron man 1 surprised me. The rest of the list didn't.
  16. It needs to keep pace with the Mutants 98 and Man of steel 18 threads.
  17. I think it's well established by the most serious folks in this field that, while a 3rd printing of #499 exists...a second does not. Interesting, huh? My bad, I wasn't sure how a 3rd print could occur if there wasn't a 2nd print. Does anyone know of another instance where this happens? GIJoe 21
  18. Would it have been better to get a green label 9.9 for the sig on the cover, or the 9.8 with the sig on the first page? I ponder.
  19. Dang. I was going by last years numbers. Last time I looked. Isn't that the most subbed book of all?
