Wasn't there some movie talk a few years ago? With Dwayne Johnson or Vin Deisel, or one of those meatheads? What happened to that?

 

IIRC, it was just before Johnson signed to play Black Adam... He was teasing several possibilities.

Having either of those two knuckleheads as Lobo is a recipe for failure. Hopefully, if they make the movie, they can do better.

I find it hard to believe there are zero 9.9's on the census, and over 600 9.8's. There are so many high grade copies out there. I know a friend who has a short box of raw 9.8's.

Didn't see one. Figured everyone's favorite psychopath deserved his own area.

Probably wouldn't qualify as "hot" just yet, but the Anti-Monitor seems to be regaining some prominence in the DC Universe lately. Any chance Crisis on Infinite Earths #6 gets some heat?

The problem is/was that it works better as more of a joke than a regular thing. So, once they put him in too many things, the act got old.

 

 

Yup. Completely overexposed the character.

 

But isn't it the exact same scenario with Deadpool? Yet kids of today love him (Deadpool that is).

 

I think because he was overexposed, DC is too gun shy to really use him. However if he had his own series, or even a mini series, all of these 'anti-hero' fans would love him. The truth is nobody knows who he is today if you aren't 35+ years old!

 

I still think Lobo eventually gets his day! One of my absolute faves from my early collecting days!

I've had many 9.8's with cuts on the bottom edge. Really bad miswraps. And some with bad stress marks at the staples. The staple holes are usually iffy, but since this is a normal production issue, does anyone have an example of one that has a larger staple hole in it? Almost like a pull, but not that bad.

Kerplunk! Thats the sound of this books market price. If they plan on selling them, I question their judgement in posting it.

Aren't there like, a billion of these floating around? I've got a raw copy thats an easy 9.6, probably 9.8. I don't see a lot of demand for this book....

There are a bunch floating around, in the CGC census there are about 3000 in 9.8

and the spawn movie was just confirmed by Todd McFarlane on the 31st

Don't know if he was joking or not, but Todd Mcfarlane himself has said he's got a storage locker somewhere filled with unopened cases of Spawn #1.

He's going to need them to cover some of the losses sustained from those baseballs he bought.

On the other hand, it's an internet message board. A message board that is, compared to others I've been on, pretty tame and civil.

Yeah, there are FAR worse boards out there.

I wonder where people pull these prices from. $269, $399, $529. All randomly selected or hoping for a buyer with more money than brains?

Most probably follow GPA and price a book a little higher than the previous sale. If the market shows resistance then they lower the asking price.

 

I'm not sure what drove the $529 asking price. That was a MCS listing that had been there for a while, I believe.

 

I have to say, I'm getting REALLY peeved off at these prices.

 

I sold multiple copies over the last few years, and I had to fight with lowballers constantly.

 

I settled for $235 for a 9.8 SS for crying out loud.

 

Really, really getting peeved off about all of this BS, and makes me want to raise all my prices.

 

 

I've learned that BIN is the way to go vs Best offer option every time. That way no negotiating. Part of the perks of being a collector, we can list the books but honestly are not sad when they don't sell. But when a book heats up, and being a hoarder, we can unload some of our 30 copies.

 

Raise all your prices.................except on that SIP I've wanted for years.

This is one of the few reprints that will probably never come close to its first print predecessor. I see so many copies. More than first prints.

Did you know, the red and blue Maxx 1/2s were offered on Wizard's website around 2007 for $10 or so each...?

Actually, they were on Wizard's website for $49.99 not $10.00 when I purchased them. And yes they stated limited to 10. I also confirmed it when I attended a Wizard World Philly Con years ago

when I approach a gentleman at the Wizard booth with a blue and red in hand. He actually called up one of the owners of Wizard who confirmed he remembers that they were limited to 10 copies.

 

So there you have some data and history of these rare gems.

That's right...that's why I used language that expressed that, rather than stating it as fact.

 

The question wasn't what you paid for them....the question is whether they were really "limited to 10."

 

You, and I, have it on hearsay. "I heard from a guy who heard from a guy that they were limited to 10."

 

While that's certainly possible, it may not be very likely, especially considering printing technology and requirements of 1993. Even the "limited to X" books always have additional copies printed, to account for potential spoilage.

Your correct with the heresay and also about the way publishers print limited to X comics but those books are normally made to be distributed to the public. The red and blue 1/2 were in house test printing samples not made for the public. Used to pass around the office per say.

 

Wizard probably had these lying around when they decided to sell off the rest of the other 1/2's. I recall that website being well organized before it went down hill hard.

My guess is more than tree fiddy.
