  1. You know.. the nerve of some people. I've been sitting here at my computer for almost a year and a half...... and nothing. I have this strange suspicion he might be lying to me.

    You give up too easy.

    :baiting:

I know. My beard is crusted to the floor, though. And once I get feeling back in my legs, I'll stand up, grab a soda, and sit back down in the chair for another year and a half.

  2. Hey Everyone,

Been out of the comic collecting game for a little but, now I'm back full force... Wanted to put a value on a few of my keys:

    X-Factor #6 & 24 CGC 9.9

    Uncanny X-Men #244 CGC 9.9

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Pictures... or it never happened.

    Oh, wttb.

Come on, dude.. I'm still sitting here waiting. :makepoint:

  3. I started posting here since near the beginning, and mainly because of G.I. Joe.

#21 (along with 24) was always my favorite book of any age. Why no club yet? (shrug)

I suppose there is one now. Let's see what you have.

    Love the title!

    :applause:(worship)

I remember when a forumite had the third 9.8 ever to be graded. I think the book was $400-$500. Someone offered him $750-$800 and he still wouldn't sell it. It ended up going for over $2K, I believe.

    Crazy collecting times!

I'm surprised I didn't make this a decade ago, or that someone else didn't. I think the first 9.8 sold for 3K? Wasn't me. Sadly, I've never actually had a 9.8 to this day.

  4. It used to be really tough in 9.8, but more copies of surfaced in the last few years.

Someone put up the census numbers when they get a chance. I am curious how many are there now. I haven't checked for years.

There now what 3 prints and a toy reprint?

For a long time there were no 9.8's. I sent in probably a dozen copies, and all of them were 9.6's. Based on some of the copies I've seen now, probably half of those I sent in would grade 9.8 at this point.

Yeah I sent in a pair many years ago and 9.4 and 9.6 and was floored I thought they were flawless.

There still isn't as many by now as I thought there would be.

Based on the lax standards this book has now for 9.8's, I agree.

  6. I do not know GPA. Even with Destro's first full appearance it does not have its own line heading in the guide.I could not see myself paying more than $100 for it even at 9.8. Issue 13 with a more brief appearance had a much weightier feel to it.

As far as first full apps go issue 25 is chock full of new characters. By price the guide is giving it a higher ranking than either of the "history issues" (26 &27). I can see it having key significance as it

is also a pivotal issue in the story line moving out of the Rockies to the Everglades. Focusing on Storm Shadows escape from Alcatraz with Zartan being a strong link in the enemies backbone for quite a long while. 2 roles in the Movies as well.

I raised an eyebrow when I saw this years guide although admittedly issue 25 spent a good while being overlooked.

24! Right on. That was always my favorite issue, as well. And #19.. fallen from a dead man's hand. :headbang:

To me, #24 has always been the key book to have. It's the 1st appearance of both Zartan and Firefly (one of my favorites).

Sure, I know it has the whole Hulk 180/181 thing going on, but to me it's the 1st Zartan. 2c

I definitely hear you on the "first full app" thing. Sometimes getting just a glimpse of the characters you know is going to be bad azz is so much more potent.

Issue #24 is my all time favorite issue . I am hoping to get a 9.4 slab this year. Nothing on the open market recently that I have seen. Russ Heath art really sets the series off as one of the war artists. Firefly is another well developed fixture of the ARAH series.

  7.

I find it hard to believe there are zero 9.9's on the census, and over 600 9.8's. There are so many high grade copies out there. I know a friend who has a short box of raw 9.8's.

You know why that's the case. CGC overprotects the 9.9 grade.

It makes absolutely zero statistical sense that there are 673 9.8s, and not a single 9.9. That defies statistics...unless there's a conscious effort to overprotect the 9.9 grade, which is what CGC has always done.

    Unfortunate, but reality.

Yeah, I've read the article. ;) One thing I'll say, is that the upper and sometimes lower spine corners are split, slightly rounded, and almost all the time has some color loss. Maybe they're holding out for one that doesn't have these flaws. But yes, 673 of them? That's just ridiculous. They have to have come across a worthy copy by now.

  8. I'd like to see that as well. :o

I finally found a raw high grade copy of the book for a decent price to add to my PC, from a book store no less that has a comic section. The price is in CDN $.

Pic doesn't do it justice, hoping for that 9.8 when I get around to submitting.

:o You got a copy like that from a book store? Amazing. Does it have the typical slice on the bottom edge of the back?

  9. Because no seller in their right mind would sell a NM+ copy right now. Usually it has one of the two defects above.

Neither of which will negate the potential of a 9.8 grade.

I saw they graded a 10.0 of this book. Now that is something I want to see. My guess is that it doesn't have the slice on the bottom, and is probably wrapped correctly.

  10. Wasn't there some movie talk a few years ago? With Dwayne Johnson or Vin Deisel, or one of those meatheads? What happened to that?

It went through two directors (Guy Ritchie was one).

Why Lobo is not part of the DC lineup going out to 2020.

Director Brad Peyton Reveals Why Warner Bros. Put The Breaks On LOBO

"It’s one of those things where, creatively, you and I get it, but there’s a lot of people that don’t quite get that. It’s a real uphill battle to talk people into spending a lot of money to do things correctly… I was really happy with the -script, [though]. I talked with Dwayne about it. Joel Silver and I had a really amazing meeting about it. I did a rewrite of the -script and was really, really excited for it. In their estimation, though, he wasn’t one of those main guys… That’s fair enough."

Those comments emphasise how Warner Bros. is going about building their DC Cinematic Universe in comparison to Marvel, and Peyton added: "I think that, to do any kind of comic book universe correctly, you do need to establish, ‘Here’s the tone. Here’s the main people.’ Then we can grow offshoots from there. With Marvel, they’re now doing smaller characters like Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. They obviously had to start, though, with their big guns and set up The Avengers. I kind of feel like that’s where DC is now. They’re setting that team up."

But some of the comments at the bottom of the article made a lot of sense in having Lobo be a backup character in the Green Lantern movie. From there, DC can judge if a Lobo movie would go over well or not.

    :wishluck::wishluck:

Like they did with Deadpool, in spite of the Wolverie movie.
