I would have preferred that Gem Mint be considered a 10, and 9.5 be considered Mint+. I'm hoping that CGC tweaks their label so that it would support a Gem Mint 10. And for a fee, we could send in our 9.5s to get them in a new slab with the GM 10 grade.

yeah the 9.5 being gem mint literally goes against the pattern of the rest of their scale. How they missed this is perplexing as the guy with 1 comment on this forum would say:

    CGC 7 = Near Mint
    CGC 7.5 = Near Mint +

    CGC 8 = NM/Mint
    CCG 8.5 = NM/Mint +

    CGC 9 = Mint
    CGC 9.5 = Mint + (??????)

  2. First, here is the Director of Operations at Ludkins today (2:34:00 in the video) mentioning getting 40 or 50 CGC Pristine 10's on Fire Red Leaf Green Reverse Holos (out of 400-500 submitted). So yeah, 10's are being given now lol. But where does this leave all the Pristine 10 cards currently trapped in CGC 9.5 slabs? Is anyone going to send those in for review to try and upgrade to a 10?

It would be incredible PR for CGC, and would result in others doing the same (more $$ for CGC)... so we all win. It would also open the door for people to send in PSA 10's to try and get CGC Pristine 10's, as a CGC 9.5 is often times the same or better conditioned than an equivalent PSA 10.

I have crossed CGC 8.5's to 10's at other grading companies, so I know there's 9.5's out there that deserve 10's. Probably a good amount of 9's as well, but let's focus on the 9.5 for now. It's going to come down to CGC objectively grading those cards under this new 'unofficial' scale they're using.

I'm still holding out hope that CGC goes the CSG route. It's a humungous mistake not to make the gem mint grade exclusively 10, IMO. It's what the market wants. It seems easy enough -- legacy Gem Mint 9.5s can be reslabbed (for a fee) as gem mint 10s, and everything else would remain the same.

Also, where are the vintage English CGC 10s on eBay? I'm seeing almost none being listed. Hell, I'm not even seeing that many 9.5s (outside of non-holos).

Check their Instagram right now (Crystal Zard 10, Gyarados Skyridge Holo 10, Neo Destiny Zard 1st Ed. 10 etc. that’s just the heavy hitters, lots of Pristine 10 WOTC non holos hitting ebay but check sold listings too as people might be gobbling those up.

With the unofficial change in grading scale, I’m now considering sending in another bulk submission, after not sending in anything the last 6 months. Hopefully someone at CGC sees this and smiles knowing they’re making the right moves to turn the ship around right now.

From what I have seen, CGC Pristine 10 Vintage English holos do not exist.

A CGC 9.5 is seemingly the best you can hope for on an English vintage holo, which is 2 overall grades below the best possible CGC grade of Perfect 10. Why set the grading standard so high that the best of the best vintage English holos have no chance at a Pristine 10, much less a Perfect 10?

Why mirror BGS' grading scale if you're only going to be exponentially harder on higher-end cards? Who does this benefit?

Many argue PSA's grading has become more and more strict over time, although they never have come out and said "hey we're more strict on 10's now" (as far as I know).

CGC should do the same thing, but going the opposite direction, and internally decide to take the top 10-20% of Vintage English 9.5's and bump those up to Pristine 10 status going forward.

This is how CGC wins the grading game. It's right there for the taking guys, but PEOPLE WANT 10's. Collectors want a chase, and being capped at a 9.5 for a majority of the English chase cards in the hobby is the exact opposite of a chase. Toss a few Skyridge 10's, or Neo Discovery 10's into the market and watch what that does for CGC's brand and market presence.

People like me will buy PSA 10's with the hopes of crossing to CGC Pristine 10's!

    Everyone wins in this scenario.

Let me know your guys' thoughts.

I just want to say that I was RIGHT and CGC is doing exactly what I said to do in the bold text in my original message. CGC should have done this back in August 2021 though rather than now but whatever, they finally realized people want 10’s and 10’s will keep their company thriving for a long time.

Check CGC’s Instagram right now and you’ll see a CGC 10 Skyridge Crystal Charizard, CGC Skyridge Gyarados holo, CGC 10 Neo Destiny 1st Edition Shining Charizard…..

    Called it!

I know of no plans to this effect. I was referring to some other exciting things.

    Thanks,

Okay so rather than go the CSG route and explicitly overhaul their grading scale, CGC appears to be actually using their existing grading scale like they should have been from the beginning, and are giving out much more 10’s right now.

I’m seeing a ton of vintage english CGC 10 cards on EBay with the new gradient label, meaning they were graded recently, which supports the theory. It’s a smart play by CGC to give people what they are want (10’s) but this should have been done a year ago, better late than never I suppose. Better late than never to actually use the two 10’s on your grading scale rather than cap most cards at a 9.5. Makes sense to actually use the scale CGC themselves invented….

Wonder how many of my 9.5’s would get 10’s now. Hmm.

We are still on track for the most part aside from some data cleanup issues. Hopefully will be this month still. If not, should be very early next month. There is a bit of exciting stuff coming before the pop report, then a bit after that is the pop. :)

    Paul

I really hope Paul is referring to CGC mirroring the CSG changes they just rolled out. My bet is they will.

So assuming CGC makes the right business move here and adjusts like CSG did, that means legacy 9.5 get mints will be eligible to be reholdered into a 10… the question becomes does CGC have three 10’s (gem mint, pristine, perfect) or do they go the CSG route and only have gem mint 10 and perfect 10…. Interesting stuff!

Bulk TAT has dropped down to 60 days now. They are running out of cards to grade.

Before CGC pays some outside consultant firm a ton of money to find out why their demand has fallen off a cliff, here it is for FREE:

    • CGC is known for giving almost no CGC 10's. People want 10's as they command a market premium which makes customers happy, and this makes customers send in more Bulk to chase more 10's (Positive reinforcement)
    • CGC is also known for giving a lot of 8.5's. CGC 8.5's often sell for less than the cost of grading. Grading becomes a break-even endeavor which makes people feel bad, and people stop sending in Bulk to stop feeling bad (Negative reinforcement)
    • People also don't like being charged for grading 2-3 months in advance due to some made up grading phase (G/E/I) when everyone knows the real grading phase is (G/Q/C)

I called customer service yesterday just to check on this submission to make sure there wasn't any account issues or holds on it as I've had issues before. I was told this would be shipped out today because they had it in the shipping room yesterday afternoon. I basically was lied to just to get me off the phone because they did not ship out today.  I'm a patient person and don't mind and understand wait times etc. But like anyone else, I do not like being lied too and is highly frustrating and a slap in the face.

Just a note to self and anyone else, don't believe anything customer service tells you. They just tell you lies to move you along to try and keep up with all mess they clearly still have going on.

TAT for bulk dropped again last week to 119 days and here I am with a bulk submission over 150 business days now and counting.

    Good luck everyone....

Hmmm I wonder why Bulk TAT keeps going down?? That’s weird. PSA is still $100/card.

Guess we’ll never know. Anyway, check out my Bulk return of vintage cards, lots of 8.5’s but a few 9’s…..

  9. Got back my Bulk received 08/13 recently and got my first 10 (modern hyper rare) and got four 9.5's on early EX era reverse holos (english). Lot's of cards they've give 8.5's on got 9's too.

I think CGC finally listened to us and realized their grading scale is literally their biggest competition and are grading a little easier (hopefully). I still think they need to start giving 10's on vintage holos to really get a lot of us submitting again, but if this return is indicative of a change in the grading room it's definitely a move in the right direction.

They need to put a hold on other grading tiers until they get this bulk under control. I've seen people with economy submission being shipped back with in 10 - 15 days after it arrives at CGC.

I really don't understand how it will take 3 - 4 months to grade a 50 card bulk submission after entering GEI fase (this is my experience)..... does it really take one whole work day to grade just one single card?

'Grading/Quality Control' is when we should be charged. That phase usually takes a week max once your submission reaches it.

CGC cases are exceptionally nice. The clarity and feel is superior to PSA, IMHO. Personally, I'm done grading with CGC, but I will continue buying CGC slabs I need when they come up for sale (which is pretty much never lol). People need to start submitting more mint vintage English holos to CGC, pls.

100% agreed Zorloth. I am trying to complete a CGC 9 early EX era ex set (English). I have 76 of the 150 ex's in a CGC 9. It's been a GRIND to get to 76 let me tell you. I also have 9 CGC 9.5 ex's as well but I don't count those as part of my master set. And of course the early EX era is the era CGC absolutely loves to give 8.5's on which is worth mentioning.

To add to your point, I'm also done grading with CGC for the time being, so hopefully someone out there is grading a bunch of early ex's so I don't have to buy PSA 9's to try and crack to CGC 9's, as the raw supply of mint early EX era is basically 0 at this point.... FML. My other option is to cross my CGC 9's to PSA or something, which might be worth while as some of my 9's would surely be 10's tbh.

In between a rock and hard place over here man...

  12. Great news though guys, CGC is grading cards received in a 2 month window! I know this because I have been charged for orders received 2 months apart which means they're being graded together. Incredible that their graders are able to do 2 months worth of work at the same time, so that CGC can collect money from me way in advance while grading these submissions received 2 months apart! Amazing. Hopefully they're using this cash flow to complete their population tool. #doingmypart

@PokemanDude90 they wildin out with these 8.5s

Not surprising. Also not surprising that CGC is suddenly making it public how many 10’s they’re giving in their marketing material lately. Better start giving a whole lot more guys, just being honest.

Someone linked Poke Knowledge’s video in this thread, but he’s not the only one fed up. Old Skool Pokémon has said he’s over CGC, KetchumAllCollectibles put out a few videos now stating why he’s done with CGC, Echo Base Collectibles has put out a few videos mainly calling out the whole charge-your-credit-card-way-before-the-cards-ship-back maneuver CGC pulls on people, and there’s others. People that have been in the community a long time are just fed up.

The community is being very vocal about what needs to be done, I hope CGC is listening.
